Did this the other day. Can't get away from using HB pencils. I've been looking for my college portfolio for ages.
Crits, advice, anything, apart from locking appreciated.

Hey man. I've been looking at your work since you joined, and I think you've made a HUGE improvement. My favorite was the 2nd pictures. The head may be a little big but I still think it has the most personality and I like the hair a lot.

Well, you managed to do _something_ right in the first one, because the first thing I thought, before reading your comment, was that it reminded me of Harrison Ford. Not a completely accurate likeness, but you're getting there. I like the second one, and the top half of the third one. Something goes a little crazy down near his mouth/chin area. Since you thought you had problems with the chin on the first one maybe you should spend some time working on that area?

Cheers to both of you for your comments, AnarchyAo2 I think your'e right about the personality in the pictures 've always had to work on the eyes a lot in my pictures and that's probably why my quick stuff has no life to it, her head is a little wide at the cheeks but her hair was much larger than her head.
I see what you mean fukifino about wolverines chin I think it's the angle at which I put the dimple, it flattens the whole thing and changes the perspective.

2nd one's real nice.. try to get more accurate contours by using straight lines and measuring.. since youre using an HB its real easy to erase, as long as you dont press hard enough to dent the paper.. once you're satisfied with the overall shapes, then go in with a softer pencil... measure measure and measure some more

cheers for the tips, I take it you mean working out the proportions of the face with the straight lines ;ike making the pupils the same distance apart as the corners of the mouth etc.
I find it difficult using softer pencils, because I'm majorly smudgy I usually use an F grade to draw with but couldn't find any laying around. (hmm note to sel get F grade pencils).

Good work. Now draw some heads from life - lots of them, from all angles. Don't think "face."
