View Full Version : Painter X not opening properly =(

I recently got a new hd and have reinstalled Painter X with the 1.1 patch. It seemed to work fine at first but then began to have a problem.

When I start up Painter, all of the bars and menus are flat, as in there are no bevels. So they don't look like they are "above" the bg. That's not a huge deal in and of itself but I also don't get selectable buttons, i.e. "Preserve Transparency" and "Pick up underlying color" have no checkable boxes next to them. Even if I click where they should be, nothing happens.

When I open the Brushes drop down menu and select something and the menu closes, you can still see the text under the color picker and related boxes as if it were still open.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, run without patch and with patch installed with no change several times now. I even updated graphics drivers to see if that helped. Same problem.

It seemed like things screwed up after I opened a pdf file on a digital painting cd, but that may just be coincidence. Painter did say on 2 different attempts that it couldn't read the file, but other times, it was able to open it. I haven't opened that pdf file at all the last two reinstalls but the problem persists.

Is there some registry entry I have to delete or what? This is very frustrating. =(

Win XP SP3
Nvidia 8600 with newest driver
Seagate Barracuda SATA 1 TB drive <---this is the only new thing I have installed on my computer.

Thanks for any help.

Hey dude :),
Are you running the "uninstaller"?
Several uninstallers often leave several traces, and if you've some computer savvy, you might consider a third party uninstaller software(s). Revo, for instance, scans for file and registry traces, (and can be found at : http://www.revouninstaller.com/ ). CAUTION : IF YOU'RE UNAWARE OF WHAT YOU'RE DELETING WITH REVO, YOU MIGHT POTENTIALLY RENDER A COMPUTER NEARLY NONFUNCTIONAL, or potentially rather wonky...

Anywho, it might be worth a shot , you might also consider a fresh install of drivers, again, there is software that can potentially clean more than the default uninstallers (why do some developers create uninstallers that don't seem to uninstall much...?)...
(Such software can be found at : http://www.phyxion.net/)...

I hope there might be some potential assistance derivable from the aforementioned...
If you would like, send a PM, and i can assist you remotely (you can watch every action i perform, and cancel the remote connection if you become nervous, etc...)

It may not help, though it might not hurt, but, hence the troubleshooting...

Luck to you, regardless :)...
