hey man, i bought the Carlos Huante DVDs and if you got the cash, they're worth the buy, but I think it all depends on your level of expirience as well. This isn't much more than a DVD documenting the way he works. He doesnt really go into detail, and he doesnt even really discuss what he uses, but if you have some expirience, than you dont really need him telling you exactly what to buy and use. Both DVDs pretty much just document how he works, in the first one he goes at it blind, no thumbs or anything, which is cool, but he doesnt discuss how he came about the idea, he just lets it flow so its not so much educational as inspiring. I'd give them 7/10 based on the fact that he's just such an amazing artist and you do gain something from just watching him work. but, as Loomis said, dont hold yourself up to him, just learn from his work flow.
To sum up, not as educational as Feng's DVDs but just as inspiring.

Horror, the description for the Creature Sketching and Design lists Alcohol and Eraser Techniques; it looks like he's using an electric eraser in one of the pictures but what does he use the alcohol for?
Thanks,
Roger

the alcohol in that process is used to spread a layer of the prismacolor pencil he uses to draw the outline. It is a layer that he uses as a base shade layer and the eraser is used to pull out the highlights, beautiful technique really. Its the equilvalent of using charcoal or graphite powder over the entire drawing, but not as dark.

I got my DVDs today. I bought the Carlos Huante Volume 2 and Ryan Church Volume 3. Haven't watch the Church DVD yet but did watch Carlos before I had to go to work.
I have to agree with the horror, Carlos and Feng are two different people and have different teaching styles. I picked up a lot of stuff when watching and it will definitely help me out. But some expecting something like Feng's teaching style may be disappointed. But overall Carlos is a fantastic artist, not afraid to make mistakes and genuinely loves what he does.

Here's a link to the Carlos DVDs. The rest are all under the Analog Section.

The shipping/handling is kinda expensive. $30 US for two dvds. I won't be ordering for a while because of this but they are very fast to ship orders and the DVDs are super high quality. If you're an art student (I am not) it's worth it to look into getting the discount.
Good Luck!
