I was never interested in the Nintendo DS until now.

Sounds really cool to me. Though it might be added that the console in the youtube clip is just a regular DSi using a camera to simulate 3D...
The new DS will probably use something like a screen that shows two pictures at the same time directed at one eye each, so to speak, creating stereoscopic vision :)

for a sec I thought it was motion sensing that enabled it to do that, but the camera thing tobba says makes more sense. I dont think DSi even has motion sensing? losing my game knowledge edge :grandpa:

I just hope nintendo isn't going to hog the patent on this one, because I'm more excited about the possibilities outside of the DS.

Wow that's really cool. Imagine in 10 years or so when all of this new game technology will be more developed (wasn't there a guy who built some kind of 3D thing with his wii as well?) Could make some pretty darn epic games with things like that -dreams-

There are other companies already developing similar things, so I don't think so.

Your right, its head tracking not stereoscopy. It's not exactly a 'moition sensor' rather just a camera running a specific algorithm. I would guess that dot in the middle would be the camera.
Its not really new and it can be done cheap.

It would be awesome if MGS is made for the 3DS, as it would be more of an incentive for me to play it, but I find this hard to believe.

Actually, the MGS pics are valid and a Professor Layton game is happening, among many other good things. The official list of upcoming games for the device is here (http://kotaku.com/5564198/what-youll-be-playing-on-the-nintendo-3ds). You can find some screenshots of several of the other Nintendo-developed ones if you look around a bit.
Personally I think the device looks great, but out of everything shown off at E3 today I still can't get as excited about it as I am for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Portal 2. I am so psyched for those.

I'm more excited about the 3DS than anything at E3 right now. I 100%'d Golden Sun and Golden Sun: Lost Ages, so...

A psp with a touch screen and games/system features that made proper use of it would kick legendary amounts of ass.
As it is the DS doesn't have enough good games or cool features to make it that appealing to me although I totally dig the design of the handheld itself... I had one of the original DS's about a year after it came out. I promptly sold it to buy pc games when I discovered its selection of games was pitiful, and a look online didn't reveal anything promising on the horizon at the time.

I watched the live e3 streams and I was so excited when I saw it. Honestly I don’t want one, I just recently got the DSI and I don’t play on hand held’s all that such so it wouldn’t be worth it for me. But boy, do I want to know a person who will own one of these just so I can have a go. This along with PS3 going 3D, there's going to be some pretty cool things going on in the next decade.
3D without the glasses? Super convenient, I don’t know how to keep my hands on them 3d glasses once you have them, they seem to go walk about. Although I have managed to keep a pair I use for the cinema.

Not enough good games? There are a plenty if you ask me.
And the line up for the 3DS is looking super sweet. With Kid Icarus, Ocarina of Time Remake, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid 3D, Kingdom Hearts, Dead Or Alive and Super Street Fighter 4 to name a few...

To be fair that does sound like a sweet line up at launch. Especially Ocarina of Time. I remember how inspired I was after playing that way back in the day.
As for my comment about good games. Well, that's all subjective really. I was unimpressed with the games I played before I stopped paying attention to the DS, but time has passed since then. All I can say is that with the lineup you just mentioned at launch there may yet be hope for the system.

I saw those Metal Gear screenshots and I thought the guy showing them to me was full of crap.
I STILL think everyone's full of crap. It's quite the leap to be going that far in technology midway through a generation.
Anyway, I'm disappointed that they didn't try to really redesign the way the system looks, but I'm aware that's just plain stupid and impractical.

wonder if the guy in this video got hired for the technology. This was back in 2007 hacking a wii mote.

I think I'm the only person not excited about all this 3D stuff. Any 3D technology I've seen in the past gives me headaches or makes me motion sickness. I don't really go for games consoles these days, especially the handheld sort, but it's nice to know the 3D on the new Nintendo handheld can be toggled off.

Im really excited over it. I think I might start playing more handheld games than console ones, lately I haven't had much time to sit in front of a tv at all.

1) That video is a DSi, not a 3Ds, it came out when the 3Ds was not yet announced and devs were just poised to receive devkits (and when those devkits came they didn't look anything like what is in that video.) It works by tracking movement with the 2 cams on the DSi.
2) The initial lineup for 3Ds is impressive, but I'm sure that other than Nintendo titles, the games coming out at launch will be pale shadows of the true potential of the console. It's a very different beast than the DS/DSi legacy and will take time to master accordingly.
3) That glassless 3d thing. I tried it, it works.

I saw some pictures of it the other day. It looked like there was an actual analog stick type thing on it, kind of like the slide thing the PSP has. If that is the case then I'm sold on that damn thing right now. I have a first edition DS, which is currently on loan to my little sister. If I get an analog stick that means I can finally play the Super Mario 64 DS without the blinding frustration of being forced to use a D-pad or touch screen.
Throw in Ocarina of time and Starfox 64 and I will be first in line when these things comes out.

Its much better than the PSP's nub according to some hands on reviews. It feels like an actual stick.

both announced :D not so excited for OoT since I've played the game in many renditions like a million times already. But I never got a chance to play star fox 64 so I'm excited for that

I hope they make a new Wave Race for it, a proper one not like the GC anime'ish game, seeing the waves breaking and moving in 3D should be really cool, I played so much of the N64 game.

Yes! XD At first I wasn't interested in the 3DS but you have to see unofficial youtube videos to actually get into it. At first I was really excited about the Ps Move, but after seeing the 3DS lineup it's like wow.
MGS 3 to look excellently stellar... Oh crap now I have more of a reason to scream "SNAKE~!" to fellow MGS fans in public. Oh well life is full of embarrassments XD
