I am debating on getting photo shop cs4 or elements 8, to use in conjunction with my painter X (soon to be hopefully 11) but am to broke to right now, which is why I downloaded inkscapes (it's free :D) anyway, I was wondering if any one here has tried Inkscapes, it's supposed to be based off the same engine as Cs4 and the rest. I just downloaded it, so I have no clue yet, and I have never used photoshop before for illustrations, so I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
So do any of you peeps know if it is similar to cs4, is cs4 worth getting, and does anyone have a million dollars they want to share with me :D I haz brownies or cup cakes i'll share in return :)
Thank you guys and gals in advance I look forward to finding out about this.

I would rather wait for IllustStudio to come in English than buy CS4.

Inkscape is a completely different animal compared to Photoshop and Painter. It's an alternative to Adobe Illustrator that is used for vector graphics like logos and things like that. Yes, you can illustrate with it, in much the same way people illustrate with Adobe Illustrator, but it's primarily for solid vector shapes.

Metsys, Thank you. I guess I'll just have to shell out the dough for cs4 :( oh well it will be hopefully worth it.

Perhaps try out Mypaint (http://mypaint.intilinux.com/)before buying CS4?

Oh, I forgot about MyPaint.
Speaking of which, I figured I might as well plug this since a question that comes up a lot is cheap/free alternatives to Photoshop. The Blender Institute (the people who make the Blender 3D software) also produce creative commons instructional DVDs, and soon they are going to release one on painting using free/open source software. You can pre-order Chaos & Evolutions at http://www.blender3d.org/e-shop/ to help support the Blender Institute, and of course it'll be released for free a week after it starts shipping (which should be in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for it).

The blender painting program is GIMP 2.6.6. You already can download it for free..

Ah right then, so it's just Gimp Paint Studio.

There's also one free program called http://www.smoothdraw.com. I found it by accident. Not as powerful as Photoshop but good for quick sketching or inking. Only windows version unfortunately.
