Dear ConceptArt community,

I am amazed at the quality of the work that is presented on this website. I had posted an ad on devianart, and one of their member sent me a note saying I would probably find more artists in the style I am looking for here.

I am a science fantasy writer, and live in Montréal, QC. My debut novel was recently agented, and this is an exciting time for me. I've been designing websites for 13 years and been a professional photographer for a few years, but I'm afraid my artistic talents end there (abruptly).

I an seeking a 2D Matte Artist to illustrate a particular scene of the book. It will be used for the design of the trilogy's website and the creation of the branding (it will not appear in any publication).

This is the kind of work I am looking for:

http://www.sareltheron.com/matte_paintings/Neokathmandu.html

I realize my expectations might seem high, but I'm willing to pay for quality. I have already worked with a 3D artist who did two renders for me, and so far I've paid anywhere from 175$ to 600$ for work I had done.

Until the novel is actually sold though, I'll be operating on a tight budget so I will only look for one scene and one artist. If the trilogy were ever to be successful, I'd be looking to have more scenes done.

The actual scene that needs to be represented: a vast underground city (cavern like) designed in levels (think Mines of Moria meet Minas Tirith in terms of design) built by the remnants of the ancient Maya. 5x7in @ 240dpi would be more than enough for my needs.

I have a background in anthropology and can provide several Mayan architecture references. The mythology behind the novel is extremely deep, and I'd like that complexity to be reflected in the painting as well.

I work closely with my artists and I know what I want: I won't waste your time. I will submit excerpts and illustrations to give you the essence of what it is I want once we reach an agreement.

I thank you very much for your time. Please let me know either here or via PM if you'd be interested in this work, as well as your portfolio and quote.

I have already received above 20 submissions, but some of them are not within the scope of what I prefer. Here are more examples of what I like:

Matte painting with a painterly effect. REALLY don't want cartoon/3D Game effect, as nice as it is. Alan Lee's work is some of my favorite of all time, if it helps you understand what style I'm looking for.

I lack the proper terminology to explain it, having no experience in that area. If you are one of those artists please PM me. I have already filled the spot but might have something in a few weeks.

Thank you

I have received enough submissions at this time.

Thank you for your interest. I will post here again when I'm ready to undertake my next project.
