It's more productive to know where you're going before you start drawing, but it's more theraputic to just start sketching and see where it goes. This one was some good therapy.

The sketchiness of the background is, well, sketchy of course, but the child and the dwarf, the visual relationship between them and the manner in which they're sizing each other up is great and damned adorable. Nice. :)
edit: yes, dwarf, gah, I didn't read the thread title apparently. I blame the exhaustion and the crack. Lots of it. Meh.

Thanks for the CC! Yeah, backgrounds/environments are not my forte, but I'm working on that. The main thing I was aiming for was, as you put it, the visual relationship between the two characters. I wanted the older dwarf to look reminiscent, thinking back to when he was that age and the younger one to look like he's in a hurry to grow up.
