Here's a basic concept sketch I've done for an elven rogue. It's a request for someone's game character. Please let me know if you see something wrong or screwy.

Your anatomy and proportions are off.
The easiest example to see is the arm holding the knife. Because of the shoulder tilt and angle this arm is the closest to the viewer, but it is shorter than the other arm!
The groin/leg area looks to short and slightly flat.
PLUS - as a suggestion, draw the head on a slight 3/4 view with the eyes looking in the direction. I think that the flat side view is looking a bit boring (sorry - not being nasty).
Just rework it abit and you'll get a much stronger image.

I see what you mean about the proportions, I'll correct those before I start painting.
I'll try a version with the face not so much in profile, too, just to see what it looks like.

well he repeated basicly what i said on the magic teh gathering board ... besides the face .. i mean you could get away with the side view if you worked on it and painted it correctly but its difficult

I'm not really afraid of things being difficult, though. I'm afraid of never trying difficult things and never getting better. I worked on the arms - much better now.
I'll post something with the coloring soon. Doing it in Painter 8 with pastels.

I think it would be much better if you didn't do digital art yet. You should probably be focusing on anatomy and use of pencils. Your getting a little to ahead of yourself, in my opinion.

I actually do draw in a regular sketch pad. Every day on my lunch break at work and some in the evenings. The sketch here was done on paper and then scanned in.
Right now I'm working through the Loomis 'Figure Drawing for all it's worth." Downloaded it a couple of weeks ago.

Ok, the update... here's what I have so far on the painting. I've been using pastels in Painter8. The legs and the dagger only have been blocked in colorwise. I'm mostly interested in how the light is playing. I need more shadows, I know, but I still want him to look as if the light - from the setting sun, is hitting him.
Suggestions and critique are very much wanted.
