the style is inspired by the flat-faced chinese stone lions.

im kind of stuck for ideas on shading- i dont wanna dodge and burn the hell out of it. someone suggested doing various colors as shading instead, but im not sure how or which colors to use or how to use them. any tips on this or anything else would be cool.

My opinion is that the turchoise (sp) looks out of place. You've got a nice color scheme, so the turchoise messes it up. I think it does atleast.

You definitely need more shading on this. I don't think the turquoise is a bad thing, but I think you might try playing with the opposite side of the color spectrum to bring more color in and some balance. Red tones in the fur, maybe, or in the background?

I realized the background was like staring into the sun, and it was making it difficult for me to work on my kitty, so, I dropped that, and I've done a little color work, a *little* shading, and I changed his energy color so it wouldn't draw more attention than it deserved.
