Where on earth do I start?

I'm going to be heading back to art school in the fall, and I'm finding that I'm lacking in pretty much.... well, everything. I know some colour theory, but not much (I can recognize different colours in flesh tones etc, but I can't go on and mix those colours, for example). I'm all right with the figure, but not great. I'm kind of all right at portraits, but unreliably so. Overall I'm just kind of "meh". There's potential but I don't know what to do with it.

So that brings me to the point of this topic: where do I start?! Are there exercises anyone can recommend I do daily that would help me play catch up? (figure drawing from models is (unfortunately) not an option right now as the only class I'm aware of doesn't mesh with my work schedule)

lol D bag comment lol but a good place to start if you want to play catch up is to study and draw from life, like all day everyday till you get to school, I'm not joking either. Well ok not ALL day but you should do a lot of still life drawings. Check out Posemanaics.com to get free poses and they have lot of them, also loomis and bridgeman books are free so everthing really you need is free, and you have CA to fill in the gaps really. tones I'm not sure hopefully someone else can tell you, I myself aren't very good at tones and shading for the most part.

Loomis is definitely someone I've been meaning to start studying. I'm half way through Bridgman, but I found I really don't care for how he renders faces, so I took a break at that section (it's a shame that Loomis' books aren't in print anymore, I love the portability of books more than drawing from my computer screen). But yes! Life drawings too, for sure!

Nothing will teach you about color faster than painting from life and painting outdoors from life is even better. Since you can already draw, go get some small cheap canvas boards and paint outdoors. Anything is fair game so you don't have to limit yourself to landscapes. Vehicles, buildings vignettes of things, just learning to see without the aide of photography is a plus.
