Hello! Does anyone attend SFSU? I'm considering attending as a transfer student (from a community college in Southern CA). Any advice or help would be great. I'm mainly wondering about the fine art program, how the teachers are, things like that; generally any insight to the school would be awesome. I'm a 9 hour drive away, so visiting is out of the question at the moment (maybe this summer). I realize it isn't a top art school or anything, but I'm not looking to be 100k in debt :/.
Thanks!

I've heard nothing about SFSU's art program, which given that I'm an art student living in the area, is not a good sign. San Jose State University, on the other hand, has an art program that can compete with the top private schools.

Yeah, neither have I. I've heard great things about SJSU and am considering it as well. Do you know if the studio/drawing classes are as good as their animation/illustration program that everyone seems to love? I'm still deciding on what route to take as far as my major. I'd love to just draw and paint but committing to that makes me kind of uneasy, rather than choosing something more commercial and marketable like illustration. Any help would be great, thanks for the reply!
What school do you attend?

Keep in mind that illustration is ninety-five percent drawing and painting. It can be a good choice for a major even if you end up working in another career. I don't, specifically, know much about the drawing classes at SJSU, but I can say that there is no way to have a strong illustration program (and, to a lesser degree, animation program) without top notch drawing classes.
I attend CCA. It'd probably be worth your while to send an application this way; while the sticker price is high, the school can be very generous with financial aid. No guarantee that it'll be enough, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah definitely. In my mind I think of Illustration as a totally different style, that's why I've kind of be weary about it as I prefer more traditional techniques. But that's great advice as I'll need a major anyways.
I will for sure be checking CCA out, thanks!
Ty for the advice.
