I found an Intuos1 9x12 selling locally on craigslist for $40 and was considering purchasing it.
All my Wacom work that I have done has been on my friends Intuos3 (small size).
I was just wondering would I have any troubles with the Intuos1 or things that I wouldn't be able to do on it compared to the Intuos3? Are there programmable buttons and whatnot?
Thanks for your help! Love this forum!

There are menu buttons on the top but not really programmable keys in the same way the intuos3 has. Also, make sure you get the pen and it's working along with no scratches on the tablet or dead points. It's hard to find replacement parts for the intuos1 now. Make sure it's usb too since serial ports have problems with 64 bit systems.

Alright thanks.
I will make sure to test it out real good to make sure it all works.
As long as there is a key for undo, option for color picking, sizing canvas, and sizing brush I should be fine.
I also read that there isn't any difference as far as performance really between all the Intuos', and that you shouldn't pass up a good deal on the older Intuos' if they are in good condition.

For what you want performance wise, that should be fine. I also agree about not passing up a good deal 40 for a 9x12 intuos is a very good deal. I'd still expect the first gens to be around 150 or so for that size.

Turns out it wasn't USB.
Bummer!
