Yeah, I'm working late tonight so I figured I'd start right away on the next one. First inhabitants of Mars will probably be chimps, so I had to do this one. Poor guy thought he was going to the San Diego zoo or something.

In 1984 Nadar Khalili went to NASA with the idea to create structures on other planets (he specifically had the moon in mind) using mostly native materials-native dirt, mud, rock. His idea was to build dirt structures and then fire-harden them into ceramic using microwaves. Here, small robot microwave dishes that have been sent in ahead of time are 'firing' a grouping of dome structures in preparation for habitation. When finished, metal doors and interior life support equipment will be added.

Matt - so cute! Really love the playfulness of it.
Kirt - ooo...poor guy. Love the Simpson-esque expression on the chimp.
Signature - Like the colors you used. I expect everyone will be going for reds/oranges...nice to see something different.
Freakt - your house looks like it's melting! Great. I think the photo background is distracting though.
Bernstein - I laughed out loud when I saw this. And I know what you mean...the mind boggles when I see these incredible pieces done in Photoshop. I use Painter myself.
Al Ian - Ah, but I see your outhouse user is a native. That's cute.
Schwoassamoasda (wow, that's quite a handle!) - NICE! I really love the feeling of ancient primordial badness that we just haven't discovered yet.
NecroNet - Great idea. I'd love to see it expanded a little more.

Woohoo! My second DSG!! You guys are great! Everyone have a happy Valentine's...gots to run and go be all romantic now :)

Signature - I like the darkness.
Schwoassamoasda - That's excellent, love the building and the colours
Al Ian - I know how you feel, I thought I'd be one of a bunch of bars
NecroNet - I like your idea
Swan - Very nice!

Here's my quickie - the important building

This is my first post - I was going to wait until my scanner arrives, but I couldn't resist the subject.

(I changed websites so hopefully it loads this time!)

That's about 20 minutes in Photoshop with a mouse (I need a tablet!!!)

Anyways, I love seeing everyone's work and love that you're all so open on critiquing. I look forward to hearing yours!

Not so sure about the placement of the hut on this one... I might make the window & door a little sketchier so it blends better.

riq - That's really wild. I like it.

bernsetin - So sadly true...

I really wanted to paint this one, but it is Valentine's Day, so that means taking my pregnant wife out to dinner, so you just get a pencil sketch today.

About 2 hours with a terrible 2H pencil.
http://www.shawnadomanis.com/dsg/dsg353.jpg

Matt Dixon - I had the same idea, but I would have NEVER made it look so good.
kirt - Hhahha. That's great! Looks like Homer Simpson in a spacesuit!
Signature - I don't find it very clear on what is going on in this scene. It's unclear.
Freakt - I agree with Swan, it looks like it's melting. But also, the colors don't match up with the background. If it were in the Mars atmosphere, it would have a redish/muddy-colored hue to the material on the house. Go to http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/m2k4/frameset.html to view some Mars examples. I thought these were amazing.
bernstein - I was going to do Starbucks at first. Same devil.
Schwoassamoasda - That is so evil... I love it!
Swan - That is so cool.
Cybot Floor - I like the concept. It does need clarity, proper perspective, and more depth though to be more compelling.
Sunny - Great colors.
king - Those are awesome, especially the top one.
riq - So freaking cool. Some AMAZING colors.
ducktape - Since you are using highlights in this scene, I would also use shadows. Without that, it looks very flat and any object seems out of place.
Beatnik - I love this concept! The second image with the lights is really cool.
Railboy - I like your painting style. The lighting is very nice too.
gekitsu - I guess that would be one of the first buildings I would "erect" too. Nice lighting.
EndDrive999 - Oh I love this one. He would if he could...
Iotrez - You never cease to amaze me. Do you walk around all day with fisheye goggles on? Your sense of twisting accurate perspectives is very cool. Nice lighting as well.

Til tomorrow...

Well, shoot. I didn't have a chance to do this one today. What was posted here by everyone was really good. I love seeing everyone's interpetations of the DSG.

I'm going to end up missing tomorrow's too. Hope to be back at it Monday.

As always, great stuff people!

Signature - I don't find it very clear on what is going on in this scene. It's unclear.
I just wanted to put a crane on a construction site on mars.
And I wanted to use the colors from the photo.
After I posted it I decided to change the meaning ...
or maybe better: I decided to add one.

Now the only important thing is that Europe builds the first building on Mars! :D

Nadim

Railboy - excellent shadows
Iotrez - Creative .
shadoman - contrast your shadow man- cool sketch you think urban :D

well lance .. I keep sketching with a 2H pencil on vellum till I reach what's desired . then I ink it with a sharpie or any similar pen - that's for the last post . For the first two shots I added colors on PS .
First ones took about 20 minutes - second alternative 5 minutes.
I am an architect - I loved the subject :D
