the flying dutchman> thanks! ive been fairly inconsistent ,its only recently that when i started doing it daily that i think im starting to get the hang of it, still long long way to go though.
Stormrider85> hey man thanks. well these are actually quick doodles which i did in around an hour or two when i finally get home from work so i dint really have time to do the backgrounds. Though its actually on my mind, ill be working on them soon. Its so great to get some comments!

Hey! really nice paintings you have here, you definitely have an understanding of colors and I see you play well with them..
I'd recomend you to define your forms a bit more, so they don't feel so ethereal some times; like in post #1 and #3 the torsos are a bit undefined and intangible.. other than that I like the concepts! Maybe using secondary lights or rim lights could help you there.

Nice sketchbook!!

Great creativity and variety!

The only thing I can think of that I see a lot is that a lot of your stuff looks pretty 'fuzzy' instead of finished. Maybe use some more hard-edged brushes to try to get a more complete/solid look, rather than like you're seeing everything through a haze?

hey Krytical_error> thanks for the compliment, but i honestly still think i am just a frog at the bottom of the well, trying to get out. What you have mentioned is a big fatal flaw of mine..i cant seem to finish a proper piece...But im working hard to try to doodle something everyday and everyday i feel i can paint faster! The picture on this page seem to have a uniform style. I like the way you're using edge control and mostly dark palette with sharp highlights, gives your pictures a great sense of light but with a delicate touch. I love everything about the colored redhead sketch. You seem to be good with face anatomy too but some the poses of the figures on the last page seem stiff or out of balance. I suggest doing some gesture sketching from life or Posemaniacs. Keep up the good work! :)

redrobot
October 12th, 2010, 09:26 PM
Hey Smuli> thanks for the comment , i know myy characters poses are like so amazingly stiff i cant stand them myself! its a constant reminder to myself to remind myself to working on them! I have alot of fundemental flaws. In fact hands ,noses and postures are the few key areas i hope to improve on soon!

Daaaaaaamn man, I love your black and white portraits. They've got such charm to them. How do you get your blending so smooth? I really suck at blending with digitals.
If you want to loosen up your figures, draw curvy lines. That curvy line is the spine of your character, and is the mood of his/her pose, all you have to do is just draw the rest of the body to fit that line. It's pretty helpful for loosening up.
Keep it up man!

I like the composition. Simple and effective! I think it would look nicer if you brought his face up a value or two. It seems rather dark at current. The shadows also seem very warm compared to the lights. The lights should normally be warmer than the shadows because cool colours recede.
