First post for me. I'm trying to get away from the "airbrushy" digital look and improve my digital painting skills. Originality is not my goal. My favorite character artists are Carlos Huante and Robert McGinnis- 2 very different artists. If I could get anywhere near either of them I'd be a happy man! The first one is an attempt at a looser, McGinnis approach. The other is more controlled. So please tell me which one is going down a better road. Tear me apart...I need to hear it!

Sellout - is there any way we could see these images a little smaller? It's sort of hard to compare when I have to scroll quite so much so see the full image (and I'm on a 22" monitor).
Thanks.

On the second one the skin is looking more luminous and natural. The first one is a bit grainy.
I agree smaller images would be easier to compare.

shading no.2 with no.1's contrast would be great :D

I also like the more luminous skin of the second...but is the unfinished quality intentional? If so, then I don't like it. Really, it would best if both choices were finished to same degree before asking us to judge. Right now (on the second version) I'm getting distracted by the way her feet trail into darkness, the hand that's hidden behind her leg (a problem on both sketches, IMHO) and her distinctly lop-sided breasts. So...if I had to chose right now, I'd chose the first grainyness and all, simply because it looks more complete.

Thanks for the input. I fixed the freaky asymmetry on the breats.

I prefer the first one because it has a focal point in the head area that the second one seems to lack. I don't know if the lack of detail in the head is intentional or not, but the second one seems to lack some punch.
ALso the contrast in the first one is more appealing to me than the washed out look of the second one.
