Character challenges

Gnomes ( small )
--------------------------

A peaceloving people that will not start a fight to soon, unless challenged.
But when they do get mixed up in some kind of battle, they'll be the first to draw their axes.

Classes:

- Beserker ( fighter )
- Slinger ( long distance fighter )
- Curist ( healer )
- Orbist ( magic fighter )

Humans ( medium )
-------------------------------

Corrupted by the lust for power and welth Humans posses both good and evil influences.
But when confronted with war, they hardly ever decline it.

Classes:

- Centurion ( fighter )
- Crossbowmen ( long distance fighter )
- Priest ( healer )
- Wizard ( magic fighter )

Orks ( large )
-------------------

A fearsome race made for war and battle. Always looking for blood to spill and enemy's to slaughter.
Orks are known to be the most violant people of them all. Don't think that winning a war against them
is going to be easy, cause it's gonna be hard and bloody as hell.

Classes:

- Warlord ( fighter )
- Spearthrower ( long distance fighter )
- Shaman ( healer )
- Warlock ( magic fighter )

Dreamons ( huge )
---------------------------

Spawned from the deepest holes of hell, these creatures are both mysterious as they are evil.
They do not care for welth or power, they only care for the pleasure of destroying entire races.
Should you ever face these creatures in battle, I suggest you just turn around and run as fast as the wind.

Classes:

- Diatric ( fighter )
- Ballismar ( long distance fighter )
- Ulmin ( healer )
- Necrain ( magic fighter )

Buildings

For the buildings we need houses, holes or map concepts which deals with the theme (fantasy/middle ages) and which will be playable (good gameplay)

Weapons

It's your own choise which weapons you make, but every class in a single race must able to use it.

openFRAG is an open-source project.

a little story about us:

On the 20th of May 2003 one of our founding members, IFASS, came up with the idea of developing a game, together with anyone he could find. At that time no one knew what type of game it would become, but one thing was for certain... it would be Open Source. Many people have the wrong idea about Open Source, they think of it as free beer, not as freedom. Open Source is all about freedom: the freedom to change an application to YOUR needs.

So where to start? You've got the desire to get as many people you can, working together on a game of which you hardly know what it should be like. In the early days we used IRC a lot, while many people were extremely motivated on poineering in this project they all had a different idea of what it should be like. It became clear to us it would probably never come out of the idea phase.

Most people simply stopped supporting us pretty soon, but the few that remained came to a solid idea that had space to spare in nearly every direction. Some people wanted to make a role playing game, others rather worked on a real time strategy game, but the absolute winner was the first person shooter. The next problem that arose was, what would our first person shooter be based upon? The past, the present, the future or even fantasy? It has taken a long time to decide this, but in the end we decided to make it a Middle Ages/Fantasy game. Yet this will be one of the directions in which our game will be able to expand later on. The game will be setup in such a way that we can add different themes easily, though not without hard and long work to create each theme.

Commercial games are usually targeted on the biggest target audience, which means you'll see loads of games that are more or less equal. Not too long ago this happened with World War 2 games. Games like Half-Life relive tehir popularity by modifications like Counter-Strike (like our themes will hopefully be), giving the player a completely different game even though it uses the same engine and environment.

OpenFRAG is this context is not a game, but a game platform. Besides the development of the platform we can create as many themes as we, or others, want. Basically this could allow you to be a knight, fighting an alien in a supermarket, or any combination of themes you can come up with.

We are definately not the first bunch of people who come up with this idea. Many project, like ours, have started and came up with the most wonderful ideas. Most of these projects never got out of the idea phase though. We are now running for over 8 months and it doesn't seem like we're gonna stop soon, which means we've come further than most of these projects. We currently have a few Techdemos, which you can download from our projects website at http://www.openfrag.org/ and we're working on the next release as you read this.

Our aim is not to make a game that looks as good as Half-Life 2 or Doom 3, but we will try to create a game that is fun to play and has an acceptable quality overall. If we have enough motivated and talented people together, with a clear vision of what has to be created, we'll have a real good time trying to make it as good as possible!

We are constantly looking for new people that can help us achieve our goal. If you're interested please contact us!

If you would like to be part of OpenFRAG, or just read more about us, please visit our website at: http://www.openfrag.org/ . You can also download our Techdemos at this website. You can contact us through our forum (which can also be found there), or you can send an email to our Project Manager, geertschoots@hotmail.com

You may also send me an email at openfrag@dgame.net

Here are a few screenshot, the map is not ours (we're working on one), but it gives you an idea of what the engine can do. The models were made by us.
