buz: checked out your website. I dug the morphing ball in the 3d section. Usually that sort of thing just aggravates me because it adds to load time… but its interaction with the text made it rad enough that I didn’t care. Cool stuff.
eyebooger: Nice tree. I wonder if a different kind of architecture would suit it better? It strikes me that the archetypal “western” home is very much at adds with nature.
Al Ian: nice to see that even with only 8 minutes, you slide one in. One question: How do people get into the house?
Johannes: Really nice mood, but I’m having trouble reading it as a house (probably because it’s pushing to dark on you). Looking forward to seeing the fixed version. Are those roads leading to the main tree? How cool would it be if they were enormous highways, and the tree housed an entire city.
Cybot Floor: This freaks me out and cracks me up at the same time.
Freak out version: the tree is a crazy watch “dog” tree comin’ to kick my ass.
Cracks me up version: It lives in that house, and he’s the Mr. Rogers of trees.
Defunct: Really nice color on that first one. The second might benefit from having trees in the background, lost in the fog. Atmospheric depth would add to the lonely feel.
OLSEN: Is that another tree, or the very earth itself reaching up to grab the tree-home? Spooky.
Matt Dixon: Lovely. It’s easy to read AND looks damn good.
Wednesday: Every once and a while I’ll bump into your work here at CA. I almost always love it. You generate feeling in your work.
Hyver: Welcome to CA. Lots of people have been using the spiral staircase thing, but conceptually I think I like yours the best. It strikes me that your stairs are actually part of the tree. Or at least that the tree has grown around them. I like that idea more than added on steps because it gives the impression that tree and inhabitant are acting as partners. Nature seem okay with people living in this tree.
Swan: Nice looking house. I wouldn’t mind living there. Thumbs-up to actually putting the shadows from the braches onto the trunk. I’m a sucker for that patchy forest lighting.
Signature: It’s the Flintsone’s vacation home. I like that you’re incorporating aspects of the everyday house (the steps to the front door, the garage, the family car) into a tree home. It makes it comical in a cartoonish sort of way. Maybe you could push that even further. Give them a tree mailbox, a tree doghouse, tree lamp post, tree bicycle…
Hope I didn't miss anybody.
later,
-andrew

Unfinished - 30 minutes in PS so far - I love this topic but I may have to scram in a minute, so I'll update it as I make progress.
Johansen - Really nice, I like the composition and colors. Crit: Some of the trees feel ghostly - I'd do brush-strokes in a different direction to make them feel more solid against the background.
Dingoegret - Very cool... This reminds me of a piece I did a long time ago:
http://www.atomicagedog.com/art/images/hillbeast.jpg
(BTW, not accusing you of stealing, don't worry. It's just a blast from the past.)
[EDIT] - Whoa, I love it when you post and a new piece is already up... Iotrez, you've got a genuine style going, and I like it.
[EDIT] - Finished - ended up being about 1 hour of work in PS.

Random comments inserted here:
@Iotrez - Very cool. I like the randomness. I can't do that for some reason I have to try to do physically realish stuff... I'm just limited.
@ johanson the scale you got with the little windows is impressive. Nice lighting with the quick paint strokes.
@Matt Dixon - love it. I just looks like a happy fairy town. I really think the lights pull it off.

Mike, better not I suppose, could put you out for a bit which isnt good at all. It's probably from all the small wrist movements you make when drawing on a tablet, I get that from time to time as well.
I'll be right on website getting , in a month or five. I'm in highschool currently, provides me with lots of things to do that prevent me from doing things I rather be doing.
and good luck with the job :)

Nothing coming from me today. Didn't feel like drawing trees.

Iotrez - Your style is really strong. It's impossible to miss your posts. They scream, "Iotrez drew me!"

Here is my tree, this was probably the fastest piece i have ever created, which is a good thing. I'm always so anal about my work and go really slow. The dsg has been really helpful for me even within the week or so I've been doing it. I went for more of an eerie tree of the dead.

Hey guys,
I'm back. Work has been crazy, I've barely had time to look at the DSG let alone sketch anything. Even Thunderdome had to take a back seat unfortunately.
Anyway, I think things are getting back to normal, so here's my baobab treehouse:
http://www.bradkurz.com/treecolor.jpg
I think the color turned out kinda flat. If anyone wants to color the lineart (http://www.bradkurz.com/treehouse.jpg) be my guest, and post it in the New Media Coloring Book Vol. 2 thread.
Olsen, Dixon, and Wednesday: awesome work guys
Wednesday: it kills me you're only in high school. that's really impressive. all the best in what you go on to.
sleep.
edit: nevermind, don't post the color in the coloring book. I should color someone else's and then I'll post the lines there.

Really tired. Not crits today.
Some really amazing concepts today, from such an odd topic. When I first saw this topic I sincerely contemplated bowwing out, since I usually run screaming from environments. But I really enjoyed this one. Plus it doesn't hurt that I drew it while watching Tom Hanks in Bachelor Party!!!
