Thank you!

A couple of quick pieces from last night and tonight. I'm not sure if they might be considered too polished for posting in a sketchbook however (?), so I can always post them somewhere else if they are.

But for now, the second update!

GabrielVerdon

One anatomy/light study from today, and two experimental sketches (the second one was me discovering the jaime jones brushes - I have a long way to go lol).

Today's studies. Yeah, they're pretty bad.

Nice renders man, I would suggest some bridgman studies on constructive anatomy, keep up all the hard work. The lighting in that last skeleton piece is nice.

Thanks Metal Fingers! I in fact just got a the book you mentioned and will be doing a lot of studies from it in the coming weeks.

Hand drawing exercise from today based on a bunch of Bridgman stuides I also did today (which I will post tomorrow when I have time).

Nice light study of the skeleton.

@Flying Panda: thanks :)

Two more random sketches. Not sure where I'm really going with either of them - I think tomorrow I will plan out my next portfolio so I actually have some direction. I think I will also write up a short description for each character I do, to help guide the design.

Beautiful light studies, especially on that skeleton. The bridgman studies look great as well.

Heyo Gabe! Hard worker with the anatomy studies I can see, that is real good.

I think you should focus more on form and proportions then detailing. You will take it in and learn a lot faster then. I used to detail (still do, silly me) and I didn't get much out of it compared to understanding the form.

Last one is a pretty intresting concept, I like the armour design, pretty fresh. :)

Lack of updates due to me going into lazy depression mode. But I've got more stuff to show now :D Also have some studies which I will upload tomorrow morning.

The last three are sketches for the next pieces that I will be doing.

Some great work here already! You're rendering skills seem pretty tight, keep up the studies and I'm sure you'll go far.

Istmin52
April 7th, 2010, 04:38 PM
Yea I would agree with Wilko. I find some of your work inconsistent though. Some of it is better than others. Sometimes you can create photorealistic work and other times, it looks a little cartoony because of the features but maybe thats intentional. I'm not sure. Def keep up the anatomy studies.

GabrielVerdon
April 9th, 2010, 03:15 PM
Thanks for the kind words :)

@Istmin52: I know that my stuff is sometimes inconsistent, but I think that's because I tend to experiment with different styles, and also because I don't practice enough. I'm hoping that in the future I will be able to gain more consistency.

Well, due to summer antics, there has been a lack of updates. Time to remedy that!!

The first four pics are Bridgman studies. The other ones are just random stuff i've done recently.

After a short hiatus, here are today's studies.

GabrielVerdon
September 3rd, 2010, 04:31 PM
Unfortunately not too many studies from August, as I was busy working on my new game, which is called Project SkyFortres at the moment. Our group started a blog for it as well, although I can't really show most of the work right now since it is largely concepts and *gasp* secrets! Here is the link to the blog though: http://sky.section2dev.com/

Anyway, here are some studies and work from the last month.

Cool stuff!
Your studies are amazing, and your paintings even better.
There are a few anatomy problems with your figure drawings. The arms of the girls with swords for example. It seems that you don't put as much effort (or time) in your figure drawings as you do in your anatomy studies.

Keep it up though! really cool stuff right here

Flying Panda
February 19th, 2011, 05:12 PM
Your paintings are getting better! I also agree with Voodoo_mama comment about the figure drawings. If your having trouble with certain parts of the figure...then keep practicing that area until you master it. Anyways keep posting!!!!

GabrielVerdon
February 21st, 2011, 06:08 PM
Thanks for the comments :) I agree, my weakness tends to be linework/anatomy. I feel like my strength is form, which is why my paintings tend to be a lot better than my drawings. I've decided to giving myself weekly drawing themes, so it will give me a chance to dedicate entire weeks to studying difficult parts of anatomy and that kind of thing.

Here are last weeks imagination sketches, and an unfinished concept. Oh, and a logo for a project I'm working on.

edit: I'm surprised there is no category in the attachment manager for graphic design.

I should also mention that I have a new blog: http://swtaog.blogspot.com/

You have some nice works in this sketchbook! I especially enjoy your paintings. It also seems to me that you know where your weaknesses and strengths are, so I think you are going to improve very fast! Keep it up!

i agree with everyone else is saying about anatomy. but its obvious that ur working on it.. and things are forming nicely... ur digital painting skills are more advanced then ur drawing skills.. but ur daily practice is making this gap get smaller and smaller.. keep up the fire going ^_^

The time i've spent working on my game has caused my drawing skills to take a hit, but I'm back to the grind now so you can expect some more updates and some more illos from me in the near future. Here are a couple of things I worked on in the meantime.
