Just trying out my nibs and ink I got recently. Pretty different from pens or digital inking, quite a learning experience... fun though. Anyway, these are pencils by Adam Huhges I found on the internet somewhere that I printed off at about 20% opacity or so. Anyway, waduya think?

Maruchan,

Nice drawings. Good anatomy, varied linework, and decent designs. The furthest right hand doesn't have fingers, did you mean to do that? Also, the frown of the girl on the left seems off. Too pulled down I think. One last thing is that the sports bra on the girl on the right seems flat, mostly because there's no value differentiation.

Nice experiment overall. As always, keep doing more.

Sincerely,
Chris

Like the inks and all, but I would call it, more appropriately, "Punk Chicks".

well techinically this really doesnt show much, id like to see how YOU draw, tracing is not really a skill...still good job though.

and these chicks are in now way "punk" they are more like military..

Thanks for the comments guys! Punk, or military... I dunno whichever
jarvis2824- I didn't draw these, just inked 'em. But I agree with the 'sports bra' thing, it is pretty flat. Some shadows and highlights would be nice.
sic8sic- Tracing isn't a skill, inking however, is. But I see what you mean, I suppose you'll see how I actually draw soon enough, this was just me figureing out the dip ink stuff.
Anyways, thanks again!;)

Your Inks are good. However, the inker can turn a shit drawing into a work of art if they try hard enough. Inkers have been known to correct the pencilers mistakes.

Keep at it.

I like the inks. Good variation in line weight. The textures on the pants is pretty good too. I would suggest you try your hand with a brush as well, I am a Sequential Art major at SCAD and the head of our department is an inker (i know he's worked for DC and probably Marvel as well) and he uses a brush almost exclusively. The pen is good for texture, but a brush can do lines better (and easier) once you master it as you can go from thick to thin easily.

PS- to the person who called inking "tracing" this is very very wrong, an inker is responsible more making pencils shine and also must fix mistakes.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I agree with you, inkers are way more important than people realize, and arn't really given that much credit.
But yes, a brush is certainly going to be the next step for me, any tutorials or lessons laying around on how to use brushes properly?

i like the inking, but i don't think you need to tone in the shirt, that would USUALLY be the colorists job. everything else looks splendid.

Yeah as soon as I put those lines down I was like "D'OH!" Somehow I thought that if I stayed true to the pencils everything would work out fine. Boy was I wrong, lol, it looks like crap. Thanks Davi!

Hmm... in order to properly judge your inks, we need to see the pencils, side-by-side with the inks. Having worked with a number of good and some great inkers over the years, I'd echo the sentiment that burhs is usually best, but ain't nothin' like a broken pen nib to add some zing to a dull ink job. Also, next time, have some fun and choose a penciller who's looser than Adam, so we can really see what you can do! - mh
