Cool sketches, but they're huuuge! Better to resise them to a size that fits on the average screen. Keep on drawing!

my scanner makes them massive and i don't know how to make them smaller without reducing the quality of the sketch

You have a very cartoony/manga style to your drawings. It looks like you are comfortable drawing in this style. But I promise you, spend a month drawing realistic human figures from life or photo, and then go back to your style. Your toons will look and feel more like real life and they'll have weight on the page.
Are you using Photoshop? If you go to edit>image size, you can resize your image and even lock it to keep it in proportion with no quality loss. Also, don't use the fill bucket tool.

thank you muchly 6 sided. i have heard everybody talking about how they need to do more life study. i just usually blow it off because i usually find it very boring. like physical fitness. hehe but i'll put some effort into it. if it helps me grow better then im game. thank you

You're going to get into trouble on here if you start trying to cut corners with photoshops various tricks, trust me, I am a filterphile myself, and I've made the same mistake.
Rendering clouds is best left for image compositing, photo manipulation and special effects for web based graphics. Usually if I use clouds or difference clouds, its because I need a base texture to develop into a more advanced effect. (and usually thats for a web-logo or photo treatment)
The major problem is that the metallic effect is artificial, it's pretending to reflect light, but which direction is the light coming from? It's also obvious that you didnt paint it, while the rest of the image is painted. I'm not going to say 'dont use filters, or clouds, or blending modes. I'd be a hypocrite, I blatantly mess with them all the time (and many praised british comic book artists have employed them too), but I don't believe using them is going to help you improve your drawing or painting skills.
Also, I used to find anatomy and life drawing, boring as well. I only wanted to draw fantasy or science fiction stuff and I actually resisted my instructors when they tried to make me see sense. Im twenty years older than you, and feeling pretty stupid now. If I'd listened to my instructors and done the 'boring' work, my science fiction and fantasy artwork might actually be marketable today.
Finally, reducing image size in photoshop wont reduce the quality. You do realise that the artwork in practically every comic book you ever read has been reduced from at least 11x17
Hope I havent lectured you too much, I'm really not qualified to play art instructor, and good luck with the anatomy studies.

Hey evilpurity! Good updates, however I have to agree with ExiledRed above me. Try to avoid using filters from the start, that is, if you're wanting to paint digitally. I've stopped messing with filters ever since I realized that it's not getting me anywhere. Regarding the studies, you can try a few small studies at a time, perhaps drawing objects from life (small-scale), and see how you like it. But trust me, life drawing/anatomy/and all those boring things really help you grow with your artwork!
Perhaps you can try doing the studies with a group of artists, such as the Crimson Daggers, you can visit their thread in the link on my signature. Keep it up my friend, and try the studies! (^-^d)

Hello! I'd have to agree with Exiledred, skip the photoshop filters. They won't get you anywhere and they're just going to make your work look flat and unprofessional.
Also, I'd spend more time learning how to construct faces, etc, copying faces (but not tracing!) from magazines, real life and such.
Also, try Posemaniacs.com's 30 second gesture exercise.
Here's the link.

Do this twice a day.

Hey there evilpurity. Your intentions are great, so that's a perfect place to start!
Now, I would really take into consideration what exiled said, starting with the basics is "boring" but it's absolutely necessary if you want to evolve as an artist. Don't look at it as something boring, look at it as a necessity and try to enjoy it. I know it will be a pain in the ass to work on it every day, it still is for me, but I stopped looking at it as "yuk I have to draw", and when you do that for a long enough period of time, you'll actually start enjoying drawing from life, since it's going to get better and better and that's fun, you'll see progress in your work and that's what it's all about.
If I were you, I'd stop worrying about the digital paints and stuff, it's natural for you to feel like you want to learn it all at once, but I think right now the best place to start is on paper with a pencil. Start with copying lines the way you see them and REALLY nail them, don't be satisfied when they're a bit off. Next study perspective and apply it to what you're doing, if you're drawing a face try to understand how it works in perspective. After that you start shading, try and understand how light works, and when THAT'S done you can start working digitally.
Well that's just my two cents of course but I really feel you should start with the basics.
Cheers, Cran.

:\ i think im going to do some reference study on anatomy without timing it also. this 30 second stuff is great but i feel i don't have time to actually learn a whole lot from it.
My hand is better to the point i can draw again. so i'll probably be updating alot more than i have in this last week. also if anyone can link me to more online Pose references i would be extremely thankful.

1. Well, for a novice the best way to start is the human figure. Some of your figures have pretty bad perspective, and some have good, so I'll suggest you look into this:
http://www.peonystudio.co.uk/bodyweb/human-body.jpg
Also, a good way to study anatomy is by copying Michaelangelo's stuff:
http://img.allposters.com/6/LRG/14/1452/OMOR000Z.jpg
2. Shy away from cartoonish drawings and start to draw realistically. Then you can be a cartoonist after that :)
3. Wherever you go, observe things. If you see a metal rod, observe how light is reflected off of it, etc...
4. Have fun :)
