Hi guyz,
Here's my first novel book cover, done for "editions de l'Oxymore", a french company.

I had to hide her breast for the final cut so I'm happy to show you the "uncut" version which I definitely happen to prefer.

thats so awesome! i love your palette. hmm, one thing that kinda jumps out at me is the dark under her left arm. the whole painting is pretty middle key except for that single area of almost black under her left arm. all the effects you have going on are really cool. awesome stuff!!

I really like this one, wonderfully surreal, it is very easy to imagine metaphysical symbols to this image -- thought-provoking, an illustration with meaning that goes well past the literal scene rendered in it.
interesting to see the published version -- I don't like the censoring, but I do like how the hair is coming from behind her towards the viewer a little. The dark border also adds depth to the water she is in. When you're underwater in a stream or lake it is very very dark like that.

LOVE IT! BTW, totally agree about the arm thing, i was gonna mention it too, but you beat me to the punch daarken :)
So what's the deal her hair bleeds, is it her esense or what?

thx a lot guyz for the kind replies.
Daarken: I was so focused on the waterly effect with whom I had to litteraly struggle, that the dark area you mentioned just passed "far over my head" as one can say in France. But you are right definitely.
Atmos: thanx for your words. I have a problem with tuts. In fact 2 problems. First, there was a time when I was glad to teach my few knowledges to anyone who'd ask. I do not anymore. I gave too much to people who didn't deserve it !
Second, there are too many talented guyz on CA and I fear them too much !!! :D

I agree... saturation of the final cover really kills some of the wonderful mood as well... and the water at the top of the image is incredible... I sat and stared at it for a good long time before I replied... the eyes really catch your attention and the subtle red in the blood - that comes from nowhere - is great... nice job.

superbe!
I suppose that the fact that you had to hide the nipples was due to cover art, not a personal choice I assume? Then again, it's a French company, so I thought they'd care less (would never fly in the US, not for that kind of book). Are the French turning prude while I was gone? hah!
Bref, c'est excellent!
