hi friends ....mainly i've noticed that there are few drawing methods

1) box system and later get in to complex shapes
2) normal line drawing

i'm using box system ..... for me the most difficult things is to get the proportions correct ...... is there any good hint to get the proportions correct ....let's say u r to draw a head using a reference.....

i tried to draw the below head 5 or 6 times .... some areas seem to be correct but most of them are out of proportions :( if some one can show how he starts it ...that will be useful ...i mean i'm not going to copy that but like to see how they achieve it ...just to learn it

Just what are you calling a "box system?"

I'm guessing the box-sytem mentioned refers to making out the overall figure via geometrical shapes, then adding the intricacies afterward. Although you have to have a better grasp on anatomy to use this method effectively (like knowing where to place the nose after drawing out the circle for the head)

To do a portrait (creating an almost exact replica of the photo) would be to go about graphing the photo from top to bottom with rows of boxes, then looking to see which boxed area contains the nose, which area contains the left eye, etc. Then drawing it in it on your own graphed paper

When drawing from mind I use the cranium-cube system. When from life I use outstretched arm and pencil.
