I am looking for some suggestions on Chrome with prismacolor color pencils. I have a still life that I am doing with an apple, a gloss black mini maglite, a chrome craftsman socket and wrench. I am lost as to where to start with the chrome. I can't even figure the palette to start with. I can see some blue, a touch of dark reds (from the apple) and other colors reflected from around the room. I have the items placed on white paper, so I get alot of white in the chrome.

Any suggestions or some examples would be great.

Depends if your light is brushed metal or regular shiny gloss chrome. If you're shooting for a metalic chrome you have to consider that the contrast between lights and darks are very important. Try putting highlights next to dark spots and that will bump up the contrast making your object look shiny. For brushed metal, u would blend the shades closer together. If this was an outdoor setup your image would have a reflection of the sky above with a blue shade and a brownish tan on the bottom side, but since it is paper the bottom will just be a whiter reflection.

I did some marker renderings of chrome here: same principles just a little different medium

hope it helps.
