HI EVERYBODY!

I'm new. Uh...hmm. Why am I here? Oh, because something happened to me and made me realize how much I enjoyed making art and stuff. Here comes my sad excuse of a back story, so if you just want to see my "sketches" then scroll a bit further down, I don't mind.

I have always been drawing in one form or another since I was little. When Gran Turismo 3 came out on PS2, I was amazed at how they were able to mimic reality so well (at the time). I told myself "I wanna be able to do that too!". So I started drawing cars. ALOT. I wanted to be a car designer then.

High school came and went. All that time wasted with envy of others skills, particularly one person that was younger than me. I don't know why then but I felt like shit everytime I saw her work. Her stuff was like gold-encrusted diamonds and mine's were things if shit needed to eat, it wouldn't even go near it due to it's level of hideousness. At that point I sort of gave up. Guess I won't be a car designer.

I wandered around aimlessly after high school for 3 years. Working random jobs, doing pointless things with friends. Last year October, I worked as a bike courier. Best. Job. Ever. Sadly, that lasted less than a month because I was hit by a bus on my way to work (TTC SUCKS). Luckily I didn't die, but since then I've been extremely depressed. So now I'm out of work and crippled. Great.

Through out that time, I just watched movies and play old games all day, everyday. More waste of my life, until I started watching Miyazaki's movies. Specifically Kiki's Delivery Service. The conversation Kiki has with Ursula the artist really hit home for me, and that was inspiring enough to put my ass to work. I've got so much time on my hands, better to put that time towards something productive.

Looking around for more inspirations, I decided to check out CA.org again. I had been here before, but was overwhelmed by the insane amount of content. Started reading about others who are in a similar situation, and the replies many of you provided. It was in those replies that I finally realized that this is it. This is what I enjoy doing. Creating things. It took me 8 years to realize this, but like many have said, it's never too late.

Wow that must've been boring and a waste of your time. I'm sorry. It did feel good letting it out though.

TL;DR: dumbass made a bunch of mistakes and finally realized now and started correcting those mistakes.

Anyway here's some of my shit. I've never liked posting my stuff on the internet, always scared of criticism and lacked confidence. But fuck that, I don't care any more. I started with Loomis' books. Tried to do figures and heads at the same time but ended up just doing heads. I am trying to copy all the plates within the book. Please tell if that's a bad idea or not, so I won't be wasting more time. Started doing these since January. I try to sketch everyday, but still can't consistently do that, even with all this free time. I threw in some old sketches and 3 pictures I made as gifts for my friends' birthdays.

If you read all of that, you are a very patitent person and I would like to be your friend.

Nice stuff. Keep at it. And I'm sure this could go without saying but, Be more confident! Lack of is a turn off. So, simply maintain the " I am da awesomesauce coolest artist guy ever (or at least I will be)" mentality. :)

hey there Max, great start to your sketchbook! nice loomis studies, and those car sketches look really good. do you know Scott Robertson's work? i think you would like his vehicle drawings hes really good. that parkour drawing is awesome too, the anatomy could use some work, but seeing as your doing alot of studies, i think youll improve in that area in no time. also the link drawing is nice too, is that straight brush or pen? anyways, keep it up!!

Great work! You are fantastic at drawing objects... something I fail hard at! Everyone has their strengths!

@UmpaArt: Thanks for the kinda words. I don't feel like that anymore, but I know I still suck, so much work still to be done.

@NickyBeats: Thanks dude! I love Scott Robertson's stuff. That Link drawing was done with a brush marker. Also, cool to know someone can tell that piece was parkour.

@LordVenom: Thank you! Ya, I'm doing some Bridgman stuff too.

@goldilockz: Thanks! they're not all that great, and I'm you'll get better at it if you studied it.

Here's some stuff from the past two months... need to be more consistent with this, like Algenpfleger.

you have really spend a nice amount of time on studies. that's the way to do it. just keep practicing. Car designs are really good in my opinion. Overall very good start on your sketchbook.

Nice work, lots of dedication. You're already improving greatly from what I can see in a short period of time, very good! Those Loomis studies in particular are very, very impressive and accurate. Keep it going!

What are you talking about, this stuff is great. Especially the cars. All I can say is draw so much that one picture that took you 3 hours only takes you 1 hour after alot of practice.

@Ivan Turcin: Thank you! It might seem like it, but I don't think I spend enough time on drawing.

@NickyBeats: Thanks dude! That means a lot. I don't really care if it gets five stars or no stars, I just want to get better.

@Dope Fiend: Thanks!

@cgaddict: Thank you!

@LordVenom: Thanks buddy! That piece took longer than I wanted, and I had no idea how to finish it. So I left it as is.

@xbert: I'm surprise people like the vehicle sketches. Those are 2-3 years old. I need to do more of those sometime.

@xxPurple Nugxx : Ya working on it. Thanks!

Some more studies and sketches from the last few days. Please let me know if there is anything I need to work on.
