i want to stick intuos 3 surface sheet on intuos 4 tablet. The tablet is wacom intuos 4 wirless, active area is 5x8.

The reason i want to stick the intuos 3 sheet on intuos 4 is because i want to prevent the nib wear. This is my first time doing it that's why i need some help to get it right. please.

iam thinking of buying intuos 3 6x8 clear surface sheet for the 5x8 active area.

I've read that the sheet needs to be cut exactly the same size as the active area. so i have some questions.

1) if i cut the 6x8 sheet exactly into the 5x8 size then while taping wouldn't the tape come on to the active area. i will be using transparent tape like this one http://z.about.com/d/familycrafts/1/0/l/n/1/ct1-15_cellotape.jpg if it does it would be uncomfortable for me and i really don't want any distraction on the active area.

2) is there any glue behind the surface sheet of intuos 3, like just pressing it hard on I4 and it gets stucks to it. i will not remove the I4 sheet from the tablet. iam going to stick it on top of it. i read that there is a thin strip behind the sheet and i have to remove it and press it on the tablet. if only one side gets stuck then wouldn't the sheet try to come off from the other three sides especially from the lower side where we will be keeping our wrist while drawing. this the clear sheet of intuos 3 which i suppose is the overlay one because in future i want to trace my drawings.

3) should i buy intuos 3 6x11 surface sheet and just keep it on top of I4 and put a tape all around it. like how you just keep a piece of paper and put the tape on the whole tablet. why i suggested 6x11 is because it would go beyond the active area and i will tape it outside the active area so that the active area will be free from tapes.

i don't know how to do it that's why please help me.

Did you replace your surface sheet on your Intous4 with a cut down one from an Intous3 in the end? I am thinking about buying an Intous4 but am also concerned about nib wear. I had the same idea about replacing the surface sheet and googled it to see if anyone has done it :)

If not, what did you do about the nib wear problem in the end? I hope you found a workable solution.

i have found many solution. one is making a alumnium nib out of rivets or steel nib out of sewing needles.
making alumnium nibs tutorial can be read here:

second solution is buying intuos 3 surface sheet, cutting it down to intuos 4 size and putting on it.
a user is going to try putting intuos 3 sheet on intuos 4. iam waiting for his result.

read the second last comment. he is going to rip off the I4 sheet and apply I3 sheet. iam following this thread very closely because many kind users are posting helpful tips to prevent nib wear.
