Just an art assignment. We were supposed to make a sort of design with organic things. Sorry, the scanner took some of the shading out.

I like how your plant starts to break the boundaries of the square you gave it. Maybe you could add some more middle tones to it too, you seem to have the darks really well defined, and if you get the middle tones in there too we'll really be able to see the texture of the plant. Right now there are a lot of light areas, that might work in an interesting way if they were a little bit darker.
Awesome job!

Thanks for the advice. In real life, though, the midtones are darker. The scanner actually took away a good amount of the shading. Thanks again.

The main focal point of the image would be the knot in the branch I'm guessing?
For a more dynamic approach I'd reccomend moving the focal point off center.
There is a method where you divide the paper....can't quite remember where though, but it turns out when you do that you find that the "hot spots" on the paper are around center, but not.
Sorry that I can't explain it any better.
Breaking borders is a dangerous habit to form and shouldn't be done in excess. That being said, yours is fine. It works with the composition of the piece and helps to add a bit more depth to the image.
It sucks about the scanner taking away the gradients, would've loved to see a higher quality image. Nice work.
