sketch of characters for a short animation.

Ive been meaning to post for a while, and as this is the first thing Ive done in a while that isnt work related it seemed a good canditate for my first post.

I'll be doing a colour version soon.

nice... i like the feel of it, and your characters a cool... just a couple crits...

first i think the both their faces could use a little work. they're hard to read... they're too much in shadow, but maybe beef up some darks so they stand out more. especially the eyes.

the other thing is i think the girl is overall in too much shadow. considering how she is leaning i would imagine she's get more light on her body. i'd also lighten up the arm leaning on the big guy, and the fingers on the other hand.

just some thoughts. it will be sweet when you bump up some contrast with some darks.

I agree that they are a little dark but the concept is good. Nice eyebrows on the guy. They look glued on.;)

also does the guy only have three fingers on the right side hand because i think you would be able to see all four.

Finally his left shoulder(your right) looks a little narrow.
overall very cool though.

I like this illustration. If I had to offer any crits, they'd be:

The guys left shoulder and his fingers on both hands need work. The shoulder is narrow/not thick enough, and the finger placement is vague on the left hand, while a finger seems to be missing on his right hand.

Work on her face a little more.

I like your style and the way you rendered the light. The distorted anatomy on the male figure rocks. There's 'weight' to his stance and his expression is good and his overall look is defiant.

Did you do the colors in painter or photoshop and did you put your pencils on a separate layer? i'm still working on learning the coloring bit, so tips are appreciated.

I can't wait to see it when it's done.

I agree with everyone's crits, I can see all of those things. However I still like them despite that and can't wait to see the finished version. The one thing I'm concerned about is how you plan to animate these guys with that much detail? I hope you plan to simplify...if you do post that schit! :D

thanks for the commenst guys -

Mr. Personality, I'll fix her face as I get further into the paint job. As for the dude, there is a fourth finger behind the slightly raised one...admitedly it could do with some picking out...and the other hand, again I think the clumsy blobs of colour on it arent helping at all :)

Thanks Sok N.Wett...never heard my style described as uplifting before...but its cool :)

meDrawUC, I agree with the crits too for the most part, but there was something I liked about the image that made me want to carry on with it (plus its mainly a test to try out some colour combinations for the characters textures, so errors in draftsmanship wherent so important).

The design is actualy for a 3d animation, Ive got a WIP thread on the 3D stuff over at CGtalk.

cheers

I think the characters are great, and I'm sure the concept drawing will get sweeter as you continue to paint it. I checked out your post on CGTalk and thought the renderings there were pretty damn cool. I've got no 3D skills at all.

Is your short destined for the web or for something bigger? It certainly looks interesting so far.
