Here is my entry. It took me longer than I thought to do the industrial setting, so the technicians didn't get much detail. Oh well! Also, kinda wish it wasn't so gray.

Nice work on yours Kicek, thanks for showing the process too!

ExiledRed- I really like how you used the lighting. The steam + The light from them working really adds a cool effect!

lkjhgfdsa- Awesome setting! Definitely industrial and very complex looking. I wouldn't want to be those technicians, lol.

Thanks Esterk.
I've done about ten years as a professional welder, and I tried hard to capture the intensity of the kinetic, light and heat energy about the arc. I did a couple more sketches of this in my sb too.

I like the environment in your piece, although the characters need to be silhouetted somehow to stay within the brief and maybe add atmosphere to the composition. I would also include some darker elements in the foreground on the left and right of the escalator, to give the environment some depth.

Yeah I totally agree with that. I haven't been working with digital painting very long, so I'm still getting the hang of it. I didn't wanna spend too much time on the piece, so some parts got neglected, heh. Thanks for pointing that out :)

Kamikaye: Awesome blue/orange color scheme. Values you have used for depth is also great! I love it.
reaxion: Pink/orange/yellow color scheme is something rare to see nowadays, I really like the warmth feeling it has, showing how hot the atmosphere can be. Composition, I'm not sure if it's working out, especially with the 3rd building barely visible. I'm sure it'll improved if you darken the building there to match the land's tone, it'll feel more in place. Just a friendly critique! Keep it up. :)
tiiko: I like the style you got there, very nice illustration and well done with positive and negative shapes in black and white. Keep going! (also look at Farvus comment)
Hamsta:Pink toned scheme is nice and refreshing to look at. :) Too bad it's not refined, kinda hard to tell what's going on in the background; otherwise, nice composition.
Nhil:Nice idea! I like the composition/story going on there, but mm, a little friendly critique? Too much white wash, you could achieve even more depth if you play with white's max. brightness. Just saying. ;)
Farvus: Ah other black&white sketch! Awesome, well done, good depth and neg shapes. Spite of simple shapes and such, you can really tell what's going on (like tiiko)
blu yu away: Ouch! One suggestion, make the foreground values even darker, see the black stuff? Make it black/dark like that, it'll give your image more depth especially with background being slightly lighter. It'll have an awesome effect. :D Just saying lol! Light and shadow has relationship, by truly understanding it means the master of contrast and composition. Anyways, great idea!
Kicek: Wow! Very! Well! Done! lol I don't think I need to give you some critiques, instead, I'll worship you. Om.... om... great master of light, values, shapes, and such. Very clean work. I can only hope I can reach your level someday.
Esterk: Great idea and has good potential for composition. Too much white though... don't be afraid to dim some down to make more depth. :) Friendly critique ;) Keep it up though! :D
Saras: Great lol that reminds me of a old film or so with such gigantic storm going on in the sky. I don't know why I have this association. Anyways great work, even though you're not a master, you're drawing so that's a great step! :D Just keep on practicing and you'll become a master in no time! Woohoo! Speaking of that, can I have your autograph advance of time before you become too famous? ;) Hehe..
Ikjhgfdsa: Wow you rock, you roooock! I love your perspective and obviously solid masses, it has great deep feeling with all smoke going on, it feels believable.. somethng I have not quite mastered yet.. grrr, but anyways, I really love it and would love to see it in colors! :D
ExiledRed: Great energy coming from welding, I can see you put effort in that and it's well worth that. :) Gives a nice unique feeling to your entry compared to other entries. Great job! :)
TheBeast: Awesome composition! Values are interesting, I like them! Your usage of the texture has given it almost like soft coal feeling. Nice! :D

Whew here's mine! Experimenting, trying to get it more realistic/pushing my contrast boundary..

Holy crap, a critique from someone who posted art, it's been so long. :)

DM7 Great color and texture work. Characters were a bit hard to pick out, because there is so much going on, and because of the unusual angle, but I think it goes well as a concept.

I don't get a steamy industrial vibe from it, though. It looks more like a wild jungle scene to me, or an oil drilling rig, viewed from underwater.

Lol! True, true. I tried to keep steamy feeling in mind while I started it and had forgotten about "industrial tech". As the result, it ended up with something entirely different. So, what I can improve is to put focus on the entire topic. :D Thank you once more. :steph:

nscarlet0: Argh, you make my art look bad :D lol great concept! It really feels like I'm in industrial area, very well done with the lights --especially the well-done bloom effect-- and a touch of blue steams really bring desaturated part (industrial lights really rip away all the nice colors) of the image closer to harmony. Awesome way to take perspective advantage for composition!

zimfin: I love this style!!! I just do! I don't know why but sometimes simple works the best and in this case, it works! Black with all colors, it gives a nice, unique feeling! :D

To others: Awesome art! Keep it coming! ;) (sorry no time to do everybody)

Seing as this topic has come to the top anyway.

Chriskot: I love how you've used implied detail to convey a realistic factory setting,
everything from the aerial ducting to the smoke gravitating toward the wall mounted fan looks convincing and familiar.

nscarlett: I've actually worked in environments that look exactly like this, and you've communicated it even better than I can remember it. The detail of the piping and the wall mounted fittings is spectacular.
