Welcome~
I guess I should introduce myself first.
My name is Fabiola. You may call me Fabby ^^ I'm 15 years old and a sophomore in high school. My first language is Spanish, my second being English and I am working hard for my third to be French ;D I know enough French to get by but not enough to have long conversations xD I love sour candy and I hate fish although I was born in the Caribbean. I tend to be too hard on myself (or so my art teacher says) and procrastinate. I love silence and being independent (although my mom thinks otherwise). I'm quiet most of the time but I can be really loud and obnoxious (yes, that is a warning). I cuss too much.
I had a sketchbook last year but I did it right before finals - bad idea. So here I am again and this time I'm bringing it my all.
>:D
PFFFTTT.
What I would like to improve at: coloring, muscles, poses, backgrounds, drawing and painting digitally.
What motivated me to start drawing and painting: my brother who can do ANYTHING like a pro even if it's the first time he'd done it -.-", michelangelo, caravaggio, renaissance, architecture, Vatican, and because I'm trying to be good at at least SOMETHING cuz I suck at everything O_o.
I will accept all criticism - harsh or too nice. Fact: I'm a masochist xD So don't worry about me. I'm used to people being asses... and the ironic part is that I LOVE it.
Most of my work is traditional though I'm trying to get used to digital. No, I don't have a scanner so I used either my webcam or my camera. I'm too poor to buy a scanner XD
'Nuff said, let's get to work.
The following image was finished on February 18, 2010.
Media: colored pencils
-From observation
-I asked my art teacher for extra help ^^ so she told me to draw still life and color it with colored pencils.

i feel pity to see no comments........
i do feel pity for my self, as same problem in my thread too.
And so i thought i should comment on ur works!
first of ur work reminds me of my past. It is somehow like, I m very curious to draw. And when I start drawing,I feel very nervous. I start slowly and when Im close to finish it I loose patient and so draw fast.....................wooo i m nostalgic.(it may not apply u(just what i felt))
ur work is very nice though technically (like shading) may be wrong but atleast i felt something. So thats an actual art and thats why take 2 thumbs up!!
KEEp dRAwing:-)

More still life.
Though this doesn't really look like an apple lol.
Yes, that's what's supposed to be DX
----
vikram_ranu - Thank you for your comment. It feels nice to know that I can do it xD Sometimes I do loose patience, sometimes I don't. Mostly I loose confidence towards the end xD But then I push myself and tell myself "You have to finish it and if it isn't great you start over and try again." It's the only thing that has worked~
Like in this one. I'm gonna attempt it a second time... today, most likely.
But first I have to eat xD
---
P.S. There are two sources of light - my window and my lamp. But I think I'm going to try to cover my window with something cuz it confuses me D:

In here I rotated the apple I was looking at. I shifted my lamp. I covered my window >.< I used less colors. I also added other details.

u r good at adding features to ur drawings....But shading seems to be an issue.
4 yrs back when i was 15, even i had same issue.
but then when i became a bit good at shading , i realised that never used to see shades in real life, prob thats the reason i wasnt that good at it.
there are lots of light source from different direction. Some create sharp shadows. and some create blur. Some are mixture of it . Its basically due to distance factor.
There are lots of other factor. like suppose if there is a red light is falling on a white object then the colour of the shadow ll be a mixture of ash and lill bit of green. cause green and red r composite colours.
eventually u grow ur knowledge ll grow.keep in mind it should be congnitive in nature.
u will then enjoy a lot.
But do remember art has no rules.
u can even do mistakes in such a manner that it tself becomes a rule XD....
the second last drawing is my fav..

You're right. I've never really studied color. This is my first time xD In fact, I just recently started with the pencil. I'm good at learning though ^^ If you know a good tutorial or book on color, please do tell! I don't enjoy trying to look for something when I don't even know what it is in the first place xD
If you or some one else is willing to teach me, I don't mind that either. I like learning :D *crosses fingers* And I promise I won't throw paper planes across the room.
Edit: I found a good lightning tutorial here. In case you suck at lightning like me, I decided to post it here xD

Hey! You're only 15, so don't worry about not being a pro. :D
Starting on still life is great, but in your crayon pieces I don't think the contrast is enough. Then again, I don't use crayons. Maybe try to do one in pencil? Like a metal object. A spoon?
When you're painting digitally, try to avoid a white background. Put down a light colour, maybe a cream, or such. (I have read on it, I just can't remember the exact reason for it right now, haha)
And try to look more at the colours, doing more still life pictures will help you notice them. :) You could also try to do some rough pose sketches in your sketchbook, a good start would be:

Hope it helps! Keep at it. :D

Thanks Elz.
Hm~ I don't really worry about not being a pro. I know I have a long way ahead of me. I worry more about my progress and keeping it interesting, because I'm one of those people that give up when they are bored xD
I've also read about not using white and using dark red instead. Apparently because white, bright colors, and black are hard on your eyes. But using cream... well the reason is probably because nothing in the world is really and actually white O_O I should probably stop using white xD At least I can say I'm improving at digital painting xD Because a month ago I had no idea how to mix the colors.
To those of you who are having a but of trouble with that, I found out that if you do this it should all work well (in the brush part, you also have to learn to mix colors):
Under brush settings (I'm using CS4, but it should be similar):
-Check Other dynamics
>Other Dynamics
>>Opacity Jitter- set to Pen Pressure
>>Flow Jitter (mine is at 7%)- set to Pen Pressure
-change your brush opacity (I normally use it at less than 50% unless I'm blocking colors)
*There are hundreds of options just for the Photoshop brushes, so that will only get you started xD
Now back to me~
I've been reading some Andrew Loomis. I went to posemaniacs once and I have to say it was fun and funny because I like to laugh at myself when I fail xD. I hope I can post some poses and gesture drawings next week or maybe today if I have time, but I doubt I have xD For now I'm sticking to color and lightning because I have to give these to my teacher on Tuesday~ I'm grateful she can help me ^^ although she's not the best art teacher in the world, she know what she's talking about.

Just a little update~
I decided to look for things around my room. I found some pretty things I wanted to draw/paint/use to excuse myself from doing homework~
Here's what I have up until now. It's a bottle of perfume from Hilary Duff's With Love. God that perfume smelled good O_O But now it's gone T_T But I kept the bottle cuz I thought it was cute xD
I'm still doing still life.

The spoons are looking great! The bottom two especially. :)
The perfume bottle is hard for me to see, it's on a white background and your colours used are very light too - I can see the lid but the bottle is hardly there for me. (May be my monitor, no idea) so I can't crtique it much. Next time, maybe put it on some fabric to draw from and try to include the fabric too?
Its nice to see you doing quick sketches from posemaniacs, keep doing them! The male anatomy study is looking very nice too, but watch his legs - they're looking a bit detatched almost. That'll improve with more studies though. The shading is nice! :D

Elz & vikram_ranu - thanks guys. I will keep practicing and updating.
Elz - I'll change the background color when I finish the piece ^^ I agree it's hard to see but I got busy after I realized it xD I have some fabric underneath the objects but I'm not sure how to draw it O_o It's a fuzzy nylon kinda stuff (it looks a lot like this: pic (http://www.keyboardbiologist.net/knitblog/images2009/apr/20090416_FuzzyPinkClose.jpg))
I guess I could change it to look like satin and not worry about textures and fabrics so much right now, but the challenge is quite interesting x3
danlucas - sorry :( Next time I'll take larger pics~

First three last one was from imagination. The others are from posemaniac. I'm challenging myself to do 20+ poses each day.
Hopefully you can see the images now O_o
