I'm new to conceptart.org and all that, and I have a question regarding education that I guess only experienced artists can answer. I'm currently doing my university majors as an undergraduate in the fields of English and Film, with psych, sociology and philosophy as electives... BUT, my passion is art, especially the digital kind. Despite my subject choices I feel my ultimate goal would be to make a career out of illustration and/or concept art. I have had no tuition in painting or drawing, but I have found time to practice. I would just like to know whether or not it is possible to perfect my art through hands on practice, watching and learning from others, studying forum tutorials, books by the likes of Andrew Loomis and basically going about this on my own. I see the value in paid for Fine Art tuition and do plan to fit this into my schedule as soon as possible, but how important was this to you? and when is it too late to get professional tuition?
