P.O.W.! Challenge 38
Deadline: Sunday, March 7, 2010, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.
Topic: Alligator Girl...
We've done disgusting. We've done romance. We've done blood and guts. we've done silly. Now...it's time to do something with profound social/religious/political significance--y'know...change the world kind of stuff. Something that would make Shakespeare, Al Gore, and Hemmingway sit up and notice... Our topic this time out is...
...which could mean a female alligator, a chick who dates alligators, a chick who turns into an alligator, an alligator who turns into a chick, a chick who likes collecting or raising alligators, or even a side show geek with a nice bod and bad scaley skin... I don't care how you read it, but it's you're assignment. So...go make your mother proud.
You can interpret the art any way you wish, and the more creatively, the better. Any media. B&W or Color. We're also going to stick with the (almost) three-week Challenge period for a while because it seems to be giving people a bit more time to play.
You can present your solution as a minimum of TWO to a TENTATIVE maximum of SIX pages which adhere to standard comic specs as below...and, yes, you can have the first or last (or both) as a splash page if you want. You can go to additional pages without asking if you have a decent idea that requires it--just don't get too extreme on page counts.
REMEMBER: You don't have to have a complete comic to qualify for polling--if you're idea requires six pages or so, go for it, but if you realize you're running out of time, try to get at least TWO finished by the deadline. That's all you need to qualify.
Standard Comic Book Size:
--Trim size: 6 5/8" x 10 1/4"
--Live art area: 6" x 9"
--Bleed size before trimming: 6 7/8" x 10 1/2" (1/8" in all directions)
This thread will be the place you ask questions on this challenge, trash talk, post WIPs and post your final art. See the READ THIS FIRST thread for all specs.
Again, this one is three weeks rather than the usual two weeks to see if it will allow more participation or just cause a lot more procrastination.
P.O.W.! Challenge 39 will be posted on Sunday Midnight, March 9, 2010.
A little note here for all of you who have supported the P.O.W.! Challenges...thankyewthankyewthankyew...
Just a reminder--those of you who didn't get a chance to finish exactly the way you wanted to, or ran into deadline problems, remember there is a sticky section where you can post your stuff when you do get it up to speed.

Hahaha ... where do you come up with these topics. If I can think of something off-the-beaten-path then I may just join in. :)

Here's my preliminary concept for Alligator Girl's face. This is probably my 5th or 6th design for her. This was my favorite, but I might tweak it here and there once I get to the story...
Can't wait to see everyone's interpretations!

3XLT: That Alligator girl looks freeking awesome. I can't wait to see what kind of adventure she get's herself into.
This topic got me really excited so I got started already in spite of my crazy work load. I'm going to keep it short though - just two pages - but I wanted to experiment some with watercolor. It feels like it a bit early to start posting pages but fuck it, here ya go!
February 18th, 2010, 10:00 AM
super skoda: Thanks. Your page looks amazing!
February 21st, 2010, 02:42 PM
I started something but it's so damn hard to figure out all the poses. If it was done traditionally on paper then I would propably get huge hole in paper from redrawing stuff :/. Maybe I need to create some image database for different type of actions.
February 24th, 2010, 12:18 PM
Here's my inks for the first page.
February 25th, 2010, 12:21 PM
that's a nice idea, where did the land?!
<<yours crowlin' out...:)
February 27th, 2010, 01:45 AM
P.D.Sorry for the dirty work, damn short time...
February 27th, 2010, 11:12 AM
There's a whole week remaining.
February 27th, 2010, 08:01 PM
3XLT: That page is awesome! Real clean inks.
ALCANTAR: That page is great! Your style is great for the subject matter.
After my intial burst of excitement, I decided that I wasn't happy with my first page. My camera angles were just too arbitrary and there were some problems with my alligator proportions. So I re-did the whole thing:

Man, I didn't plan on entering this time, but something is string in my head. I had to enter. Don't know if I can finish in time (barely started):^^;: Anyways, I'm seeing lots of great entries.
Super Skoda; Amazing paintings. Can't wait to see the finised version.
3XLT: Love the Aligator girl design.
Yuki Slider: Cool Idea, Way to think outside of the box.
j.s. sabastianl; I really like the story. I really wanna what she'll do to the uncle.
tobbA; Alright! I see some aligator fights coming.
waterbird; Teehee, I knew that girl was too cute to be eaten
ALCANTAR; I hope you're not done with that. Like Attorney said you got another week. I wana see where the story is going. Or is that the whole story?
I hope Ilaekae is ok. He hasn't posted the last Round yet. I'll see if he needs help. Will post my WIPS when they're ready. Peace out.

March 6th, 2010, 01:24 AM
Sorry...the gods are out to get me again...lost my online for five days again because the melting ice brought our screwed-up phone lines again. This is getting tiresome, people.
Current stuff looks good. I still have to post the poll on the covers yet, which i couldn't do before because I was on a temp phone hook-up which timed out before i could get a complete post up. I'm told that my DSL will be back and stable by sometime late Saturday, so I'll post the last poll and the new Challenge on Sunday so we can start to catch up.
The alligator girl looks like it's going well, but i still have to go check if anyone asked any questions, etc. As screwed up as things are at this end technically, I'm not going to be too picky about the actual deadline, so if you get at least two pages in by sometime Monday, it'll be okay because I'll post the poll Monday night.
Thanks for your patience--and sacrifice something stupid and gold-plated to get Spring to start, for Pete's sake...I'm tired of this shit....
March 6th, 2010, 04:17 AM
Yeah! He's still alive!! My prayers are with you Ilaekae.
Well here's my WIP. This is too cpmplex for 6 pages. I'll probably enter 2-3 pages. I'll post the rest later when I get finished.
March 7th, 2010, 04:27 AM

March 7th, 2010, 07:24 PM
Out of my comfort zone, again. Hell I don't even know where my comfort zone is anymore.
Anyway here she is.
March 8th, 2010, 01:54 AM
Some very nice entries up...
My DSL is up and running, but I'll have to test it for a couple of hours on uploads to one of my storage sites to work the kinks out, so I won't assemble the polls (last and this one) until tomorrow morning, so if you need the time, go for it...
I do have a new Challenge going up in a couple of minutes, though...
March 8th, 2010, 06:33 AM
Thanks Man. I'm So Sleepy!!
March 8th, 2010, 12:10 PM

(arttourney where are you this time?)
tobbA- old school charm. i like her outfit.
jssebastian- ghastly as usual. i am not easily disturbed, so thank you.
alcantar- a donde fuiste? i thought your first page was pretty amazing. very stylish and original. keep at it, seriously.
super skoda- your stuff rocks. love your blog/sketchbk as well. i hope you're still planning on posting that second page. at the very least, i want to know what that gator is saying!

March 8th, 2010, 02:32 PM
I'm sorry. I needed to fill out a rather elaborate job application in the early going and now I am up in Carmel dog sitting Great Danes for my friend. (They are kind of a handfull)
March 8th, 2010, 02:50 PM
Well that is at least a very original excuse. :)
March 9th, 2010, 02:07 AM
Yes, Waterbird. You missed 1-3, 6-7 , and possibly 8. Hehe they're not done yet. I only decided to enter these 2 first to show how the stroy is coming and going. The rest I will post here when they're done.:yayca:
March 9th, 2010, 03:16 AM
Sooo happy for the time extension! But yet late... Too much work last weekend.
Little change in the argument, Big change in the lenguaje, but don't worry fellas, aprender Espaniol es muchou bonitou!!!
Great Job everybody...
P.D. Sorry for the distortion was set automatically by the software, without time to correct... Good Nite!
March 9th, 2010, 11:21 PM
Alcantar- I like what I'm seeing- y no hay problema con el Espanol tambien :) pero... they're too small. I can't see your drawings, which you obviously worked very hard on. Can you re-post these? They should be about twice as big as you have them- say about 600-800 px wide.
Noiion- looking forward to your extra pages too.
