Hello!
I'm a young person interested in searching for some concept jobs in the future. I'm in art college and I was wondering about a few things.

First, it might turn out to be a silly question but, what I've seen so far in concept art is some quality digital drawings and 3D desings. Is there room for traditional art in the concept art industry this days? True be told I'm more interested in traditional art and feel I could fight a better battle with it.

Also, The video game industry seems to be concentrated in a few countries, at least in ones more than the others. So, can I have a decent job without having to leave the country? how difficult is to get a job being a foreigner?

I know next to nothing about this and I don't know if I'm making any sense, but hope you can help me a little. Any kind of good advice you might have for starters is highly appreciated.

Well, to answer your question, I work for a bigger game company and I have never seen a concept artist working exclusively traditionally (even if they often start off some drawings in pencil) but just this morning I heard a rumour of a fabled senior CA in another studio of the group who still works all traditional because he's been doing that for like, 30 years. So as you might gather, knowing Photoshop is kind of important.

Also, there are now studios in India, China, Casablanca, Bulgaria, Canada and even other places that don't finish in A. It's easier to find work where there is a variety of companies, but there's more and more studios all over.

I would think you would have a hard time getting a job as a CA without some digital tool knowledge. Now you might get in as a TA if you have mad traditional skills and they would be willing to help you pick it up. In my experience you should have a basic understanding of how 2d and 3d programs work and a solid traditional set of skills to back it up. Also your traditional skills must be representational art not abstract or anything that means you can't render something to look realistic.
