Hello there conceptart.org!

My name's James, I'm twenty years old and this is going to be where my creative journey begins...

I've been drawing regularly since last month and I'm looking to become a mildly competent draughtsman by the end of the year.

In the past I've made a few bad decisions and taken some wrong turns... Recent events and self reflections have inspired me to change, art is something I've always had interest in and I've decided to begin studying it properly, as a means of channelling my energy into something positive.

I hope to make some good friends through this website and I look forward to getting to know you all a little better!

Until then... Peace

Xayo

2nd update of the day, another still life, some Loomis proportion studies and some drawings I've done over the past couple of weeks that were copied from a Barrington Barber book... Damn was that orange annoying.

Hey mate! I am very glad that you have posted some pictures. First of all I must say that I am impressed, you have been drawing for about half the time that I have been and your technique is this early really good. I love the way you lay out the shadows on your drawings, this is very well done. Especially on the dark apple, it really shines, the shadows and the lightning coming onto it looks really realistic.

You have really started off right with studies of angles, lightning, shadows. I need to practice on those stuff more. Try to make something from your fantasy sometime, maybe not all from your fantasy. Example, you take a photo and you try to draw it but you change some stuf in the photo and make it from your own fantasy, I hope you get the idea?

And the last picture, the vase is beutiful. Keep it up, I am gonna check in often. I would love to see some faces maybe. Keep on drawing m8. Here's my msn if you want to talk more = max_anton@hotmail.com

Cheers

A failed milk bottle and a work in progress, I've spent about three hours on the trainer/sneaker/whatever you want to call it so far and I'm pretty pleased with how it's going, I just hope I can do it justice by rendering it real nice! I'll update as soon as it's finished.

Hey dude i thought I's reply to your post here :) First of all I just want to say that you should link your sketchbook to your signature cause otherwise its alittle but tricky to find yours. Do you know how to do that?

You shouldn't feel lonely I'm here to help, encourage and talk to, I love to make new friends you know and especially friends with similar hobbies. Well whatever you say Im still impressed, especially with your shadows. Yeah I got some books I know I should do that as well but It's boring haha. I like to try draw from photos of real people, that's more fun but more challanging.

Fantasy stuff yeah, it doesn't matter if it doesn't come out looking good. The idea of all this is to get better and with every failure your gonna get one step closer to victory :) we just need to practice and fail a lot haha. And every ones in a while something looks good which makes us wanna draw even more.

Yeah if you want to get better I think the best way is to make it fun and it gets a lot more fun when you can help and get tips from others. I am looking forward to seeing your progress and Ill try to help as much as I can.

About your last two posts: I don't agree what the milk bottle was fail. I think it looks good and it looks plastic, it is plastic isn't it? Here we make them out of paper haha. Where you from btw?

The shoe is really good, nice sketch. Try to draw the shadows now, cant wait to see it finished. Remember to look closely on the fabric to make the shoe really look like its made of fabric. I can't say I know how to do that haha.

Keep posting and I'll keep stopping by. Cheers m8

p.s sorry for the long post, I can't stop talking sometimes haha.

Little update on my trainer, I made a start on the rendering but I'm finding it difficult to pinpoint the correct values and draw them clearly, I'm gonna keep working at my technique until I can get it right. I'd be grateful for any useful tips or critiques on this and yeah, I'll hopefully post the finished version tomorrow.

Thanks PaintMyBrain, sorted out the link to my SB so you'll be able to find it easier now, to be honest those books haven't really helped much, I still get stuck when I'm drawing values... Once I've done this trainer I'll definitely give the fantasy stuff a go, I'm just really eager to improve on my technique! That milk bottle was evil man, but at least I learnt something from it, hopefully now I can do this trainer properly. Thanks for stopping by again man and thanks for the support!

By the way, I'm from merry old England!!

Hey, sorry about the delay since last time I posted, had a load of drama to deal with, lost my house keys... All in all a pretty rough couple of days, I did however manage to finish the trainer... Kind of happy with it but I still think I can improve, planning to draw a landscape next, gonna be tricky but I really wanna give it a shot, I'll upload again tomorrow. Peace.

Hey m8! Thanks for dropping by my sb again. I wondered where you were. I hope you found your keys again and that you can relax now and hopefully draw some more.

There will never be a time where improvments stop, you can always improve. Even the really good artists have stuf that they need to practice on. However your shoe here is amazing, it really looks like fabric material and the shadows are great. I really like your work.

It would be fun to know how long it took to make? Keep it up, this is some really good work. You've improven much really! Keeping this pase you'll be a damn good artist in just a few years.

I'm looking forward to seeing the landscape soon :) I have taken a little break from my portrait drawing and started to make some animal sketches but nothing really looks great hehe. But I will post something again soon. And my girl needs hair, but hair is hard hehe.

Seeyou soon, Glad your back!

Unfortunately I don't have much to sow for the past week, instead of the landscape I made a start on figure drawing, practising with Loomis's mannikin technique... Here's a little dose...
