Okay here is more stuff done on my weak wacom bamboo lol. but hey its a start.

had to get used to just drawing on this thing period. some figure studies and some quick composites just trying things out.

I sketch some sort of temple scene and then rendered it....im ashamed at how threw all sorts of perspective out the window lol.

still life, randomness, photo study of tyra banks (i learned ALOT doing this...omg the hues under skin, how strong contrast does wonders, etc.).

that last thing lol....don't ask, i was looking at my kangol hat and a kangaroo pooped out.

SORRY FOR THE HUGE IMAGES. i didn't think they'd upload full size and whatnot. i'll be cautious of this in the future. -_-

of course i didn't post anything in the past month. ive been on my ass (not really)

lets see if i can change that.

trying to work on my environments cause honestly i'm a noob. any pointers would be awesome. particularly with fricken GRASS!!! Tips on water would be nice too.

The first one is a Na'vi, isn't it? Looking good so far. Keep the studies coming:D

JR McGee
March 15th, 2010, 09:43 PM
lol nah. I did think of a Na'vi as I did it but its a ref study from National Geographics. Tribesfolk had blue pain. loved the play with primary colors.

and Thanks, i checked your sketchbook....i felt like ive been sitting on my ass compared to how much you study.

Okay heres some more stuff.

-photo study of armor. playing wit a different brush outside of hard round.
-random stuff from imagination
-1 minute figure drawings from pose maniacs.
-some studying and stuff from head
-stuff off the head
-some concepts for this minigame some folks i know are making

I'm definitely going to do some more studys on rendering different textures/surfaces .

Just been tryin to work on my fundamentals and stuff. Left digital alone for a while.

started doing more life stuff. if you're in Atlanta ,GA, Monday's @ Apache Cafe is art night. 5$ and u can do all the figure drawing u want. drinks, food, spoken word and DJs and bands. Its a great atmosphere. I was amazed at the crazy artists i met. The different ways we see the same thing is awesome. One guy in particular used broken lines that went with the beat playing. 0_0

anyways heres some stuff. charcoal and pencil and i had lik 5 mins off tim to play around on wacom. also starte playing around wit markers. :)

i'll start trying my luck with more original pieces and compositions and stuff. kinda boring stuff i'm doing.

Nice work, JR. I like your anatomy studies. I should probably do some similar work myself.

Challenge yourself on those difficult bits (hands and feet). Don't exclude them.

Keep posting!

Thanks Ant. Avoiding the hands and feet was obvious huh? lol.

well i'll start trying to do more studies of them. they are indeed a challenge for me.

did some studies yesterday and today. trying to do a better job at seeing the color in peoples face.

does anyone know how to render stuff like wool/knitted sweaters?

continued studies and a original image i started on a whim.

did more of the "human body" from memory. then i applied it using it as a base for something wit actual mass (wit a lil memory of bridgeman showing a little :) ).

then diving into the human head from a mathematical pov ala Leonardo.

tried to do from memory after absorbing a bit. definitely have a ways to go.

ugh @ the original WIP lol. perspective is so funky. its more of a distorted view lol. i'd luv if someone had some tips on tackling different views and what not.

Hey! Really great sketchbook you have here. There's so much potential :) Your compositions make me jealous. The CHOW is really nice, I love the movement in her body and the way you painted the spirits in her shawl and her face is gorgeous, except her mouth might be slightly off center. There are three immediate things that stand out to me. First, is in the fabric of the kimono is really stiff and it makes her leg look a lot larger than the way you have it in the thumbnail sketch. Second, her hand is really large for her proportions, do lots of hand studies. The third thing is the hair, I think you should spend more time on it and make more strands and group the hair together in bunches. Last minor thing is the lighting, I could see you were trying to make some rays behind her head, sadly though, it hardly shows and it would be beautiful if it were more defined :) Thats all I have, keep up the good work!

Your photo studies are coming along pretty solid. Keep those up, and make sure you keep paying attention to what you're doing; pick a focus for each of the studies, be it structure, color, capturing a likeness, edges, whatever, to ensure that you get the most out of each of your studies.

KEEEEEEEEP GRIIIIIIINDINNNN'.

amianna...thanks so much for the crit. Stuff i really didnt think about at the time but totally see now. I'll go forward considering such items.

Alejo Calderón...ITS ABOUT DRAWING! WE ON SUM NIKE SHIT, JUST DO IT! welcome....tho i have no right to say welcome as i'm never on here.

Jovian...I stopped grinding :( i'ma get back on it tho....if i can. I'll be more focused in the future tho. I'm all over the place.

I was blessed with a great JOB, but sadly its completely taken away time to draw. I just made a light commitment to try and put in some time at night to do randomness or studies. i've forgotten SO MUCH. but for some reason i feel like i might do better than i have in the past.

i compiled what i was able to muster out while at the office lol. expect see alot of yellow stickies in the ear future.

drew my sister. she said i made her lips too big...oops. stop moving so much.

then photoshop crap (and literally a walkin pile of shit). trying to get used to it again. made a custom brush.

tryin.

did a more additive and subtractive approach to my rendering this time. versus just adding up like last night. i think i'll try to stick to this method going forward when doing portraits and the like.

I love your photoshop studies ^ ^ ~

Try doing more drawings from life, people, buildings and objects around you, I find it helps with proportioning things and it can help when drawing from imagination too ^ ^
