POLYCHROME is a character from BRERETON'S comic THE NOCTURNALS. I've been working on this here and there for a few days, and like how she's coming out. I have a ways to go yet, (lots more hair, more detailing, cleaning up) but thought you guys might like to see it so far. (I always like to get opinions about half way through)

hey love the pregress but as u can clearly see the eyes need a flattening or something.. something that could round it off of like.. maybe just take the dots off (eyeball) and if u were to paint do a little eye.. but eyes need work

juicy_fruit- Thanks for the opinion....the "eye dots" are place holders so that I can have a better idea in my head of how I want them to look. They will be smoothed out...don't worry. She is a ghost-like character...so her eyes will have a bit of the look you see here, but not so pronounced. Like I said above...she's about half done. ;)

DocHorror- Thanks :)

I'll post up a pic of where I am now with this sculpt when I get the chance.

Been crazy busy, and haven't had much time for sculpting, but here's an updated pic. Added more hair, and started a bit of detailing. Still have a way to go yet, but she's starting to come to life now I think. :)

Here's yet another update.
She's almost done...only a bit more detailing, and some cleaning up to do here an there before hardening. Thanks for looking.

I like the details in the hat/bandana. You seem to be slowing down alot lately, unless you not showing us all of your scupts. Whats up ? :)

Thanks for replying volk23...I actually have been pretty busy with stuff outside of sculpting, (life happens while your making other plans and stuff...you know) but I am about to get myself back into doing original sculpts again. My next one should be very cool when it's done. It's another creature sculpt, and I'll post up pics once I get a ways into it. Until then...feel free to check my website to keep updated. Thanks again for the kind words.

Hi there!
Nice start!!! I do have a couple suggestions if thats alright. Do you have a reference picture so I could see the look you are going for? Concept art? Anything? Right now she is really stylized. (if what you are going for is stylized then ignore this next comment) I would like to see you work more lines into the hair to make it look more like hair instead of "locks of hair" that are stuck on. The amount of hair is good but I do think it looks a bit cartoony.
Now whether you want it stylized or not, the eyes and lips need more work. I know yous ia dyou arent finished yet :) I totally understand so just my two cents. The rubber tipped tools you can use for smoothing pastels or spreading oil paint are wonderful for smoothing in the lines of the eyes. Now a common mistake in modeling in a 3D package or in sculpture is that the lips look stuck on, the crease and corners of the mouth are flush and a bit sunken in to the cheeks where it meets. Again.. the rubber tipped tools are my saving grace. I suggest those as well for the pressing and smoothing into her cheeks.
I would love to see you work more wrinkles into the bandana around her head too. The gap between her collar bones should be about a finger or two's width the depth though is good. You did a very good job on the back of the bandana where it ties, that is difficult to communicate cloth, especially ties.
Just my two cents. :)
Good luck with her!
Cant wait to see her finished!

Crave My Nightmares- Thanks for your comments man. I'm glad you were interested enough to say something. Please check out my website when you get a chance, and let me know what you think of my personal works if you're so inclined. (Saw your creature sculpts...very imaginative)
Here is the pic I was sent by the woman who wanted this commission done. She wanted the bust to be a combination of all these representation all in one. (Yeah, now you see the difficulty....hahahaha) Anyhow, take a look at the various types, and let me know what you might have done different. She likes the hair how it is, but I would have preferred to have it all as one mass. (Gotta give the woman what she wants...right?) :) Brereton's characters are all very stylized...so it's tough to get it perfect. I actually added realism to the character more than I shoulda me thinks, but SHE likes it...so I guess that's all that matters. (Threw in a bit of my own styling as well....can't help that) Here's another pic from an angle that seems to show a bit better somehow.....Thanks again, and I do plan to add more to the bandana ( wasn't happy myself with that ;) )
