Concept covers for mini-series horror comic. The first three are actual book covers, the fourth is an ad promo/ashcan.

BTW...

The 4th cover is actually an ad promo that depicts the main character as oppose to the "vague" book covers. I went with the line art feel to break away from the mixed media look of the book covers.

I'll post up some interiors here in a few...

Hmm, very McKean-ish...
I like the third one, I think it works pretty well visually, though I can hardly make anything out. The second is pretty nice, too.
The first one doesn't really do it for me...the blood splatter is a nice effect, but the main cover...I don't know, I think it's too chaotic, it does not read very well. Maybe it would be better if you would have concentrated on that skull/face in the background more and would have left away those patterns/comet-like things in front of it.
The fourth one isn't exactly my taste, either, but that may just be me - I don't like the hard lines in connection with those washed-out textures...

Here are some requested interiors from Book One of the Resurrectionist series. I included the art specs/script as well below for those interested. I had to pull some teeth to publically release this content but you guys are worth it.

Credits and Titles.

<PAGE 1>
Panel 1. Splash. Angled shot of excited school children pouring from the double doors of the school and into the schoolyard. Its recess. One of these children is Billy Hayden, Age 12. He’s not quite as happy as the other kids but has a slight grin.

CAP: TEN YEARS AGO.

CAP: MY NAME IS BILLY HAYDEN. I WAS TWELVE YEARS OLD WHEN THE EVENTS THAT WOULD DEFINE MY LIFE FIRST BEGAN. IT SEEMED LIKE ANY OTHER DAY AS FAR AS I WAS CONCERNED. IT ALL CHANGED WHEN THE BELL RANG FOR RECESS AND WE POURED THROUGH THE DOUBLE DOORS TO THE SCHOOLYARD BEYOND.

<Page 2>
Panel 1. Behind the back shot of Billy walking away from us across the asphalt of the basketball court toward the grass field beyond. In the distance on the right is a large chicken-wire overhang for baseball (to stop the ball from flying across a fence and into a wooded area beyond. Kids seem to be splitting off to the left and right. He’s the only one heading toward the baseball diamond and the woods beyond.

CAP: I DON’T KNOW IF I WAS IN A TRANCE OR WHAT BUT EVERYTHING WAS FOGGY AND I DEFINITELY REMEMBER WATCHING THINGS FROM OUTSIDE MY BODY AS IF I WERE A BYSTANDER AND NOT IN CONTROL OF MY ACTIONS.

Panel 2. Billy’s on the grass now as four boys who could be quadruplets approach, coming from the direction of the baseball diamond and woods beyond. The boys are standing very close to each other side-by-side and are all clad in the same Charles Dickens style English schoolboy uniforms (See the blond round-faced boy from Neil Gaiman’s Dead Boy Detectives from Sandman for reference).

CAP: ON ANY OTHER DAY I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT QUADRUPLETS CLAD IN ENGLISH SCHOOL UNIFORMS WAS JUST A BIT ODD. THIS DAY I DIDN’T GIVE IT A SECOND THOUGHT.

Panel 3. The boys are now in front of Billy, still side-by-side and they are smiling creepily. The furthest on the right does the speaking.

QUAD #4: THERE’S A WITCH BEHIND THE POND.

Panel 4. Close-up of Billy, his eyes sorta glazed and a stern “you’re bullshitting me” look on his face.

BILLY: NO THERE ISN’T.

Panel 5. Medium shot of Quad #4, his arm outstretched to point out the pond at the edge of the woods beyond the baseball diamond. The boy smiles a sinister shark-tooth grin.

QUAD #4: YES THERE IS. GO SEE FOR YOURSELF.

Panel 6. Billy faces us with a slight grin of determination as he stares at the ground and walks toward us. The quads are behind him watching him walk away.

CAP: “ALL RIGHT. I WILL.”, I THOUGHT. AND WITH THAT I HEADED OFF TO PROVE THEM WRONG. I SHOULD HAVE BELIEVED THE FREAKISH QUADRUPLETS AND LET IT GO BUT I DON’T THINK I REALLY HAD ANY CHOICE IN THE MATTER.

<Page 3>
Panel 1. A shot of the woods and a small pond maybe ten feet in diameter. On the right of the pond a wire fence borders the school and ends at the tree-line. A wall of woods stands before us. A curving trail of grass circles the left side of the pond and disappears behind the woods. The path would normally not be visible looking straight on from a distance but now its clearly there as Billy walks it, his back to us. His head is still tilted down at the ground, not really paying any attention as he thinks about how ridiculous the whole witch thing is.

Panel 2. Massive head-shot of Billy’s face, jaw dropped open as the blood drains from his face and his eyes bug out in indescribable horror. His greatest nightmare come to life is standing only ten feet from him off-panel.

CAP: I’VE HEARD STORIES ABOUT PEOPLE BEING SO SCARED THEIR HAIR TURNS WHITE OR THEY LITERALLY DIE FROM FRIGHT. I VAGUELY RECALL WISHING FOR THE SUN TO INCINERATE ME JUST TO END MY FEAR. DEATH WOULD HAVE SEEMED LIKE A GOOD ALTERNATIVE IF I HAD THOUGHT IT WOULD SAVE ME FROM HER.

To Be Continued...
