Wow, great stuff! I really don't have any crits, because these sketches are so well done. I wish you haven't done the capricorn on lined paper though, because it will probably be a pain to color it in PS now. Still fantastic though.

Nice lineweight in your pieces, that really adds to them. I hope you do the comic, too - that character looks highly interesting.

And you did the Thundercats!!!! HOOOOOOoooooo! That's one of my all-time favorite. I like how you captured cheetara and Lionell in that one.

you must talk to someone like DC or darkhorse comics and send 'em a portfolio of your comic drawings...'cause man you are good! and if the stress of drawing cell after cell by a deadline is too much, ask 'em if there are any jobs for like bookcovers or something....you definitely have the talent:chug:

hey guys, its good to know that some people out there are liking my stuff. makes me feel good. i was real close to stop posting but you guys brought me back. so ill be posting up stuff every week and i hope to hear from you guys regularly and please feel free to comment and let me know what i need to work on cuz theres always room for improvement. ill try and post stuff up every sunday so keep a look out!!

mcgregory, sularia, storyline and demon

thanks a bunch for the kind words!!!!! i hope you guys continue to look for my stuff and give me feedback and tell me what i need to work on.

dirtmouf

why electrical engineering? hmmm. good question, i ask myself that everyday. im too close to graduation to stop now but that decision is something i do regret. however, after i do graduate i do plan on throwing soem stuff around, freelance or something. dont have a clue where to start though. and i started drawing when i was a lil kid. ive always loved comic books and have used them as references, there are some great comic artist out there like jim lee, bart sears, travis charest and adam hughes. those guys are my favorites. as far as how did i learn to draw? i think your talking about schooling if ive had any? well, i havent had any i just kinda picked it up myself since i was lil and tend to draw daily(which i think is the biggest key on improving) so i guess thas about it in a nutshell. thanks!

injection223

yeah you hit it bullseye right on the head! i would love to work for marvel, DC, darkhorse, etc. ive always said that ill put some stuff together but im so dam lazy!!! soon though when i get some time off from school.

yep anyways, i gotta run and ill try and post some stuff up 2morrow. so thanks alot and ill hope to hear from you guys soon.

There's a thread here (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6649) about getting into the gaming industry. I'm sure some of the advice there could help you out.

I'm glad to hear that you're going to keep posting regularly. Keep the eye-candy coming!

I can't stop looking at your last picture. It's got that oldskool feel because of the style and the design of the winged man. I'd love to see that made into a comic the most. I bet Top Shelf and DC would take you in a heartbeat.

Also I see you enjoy sports/basketball :)
You like to play or you enjoy to watch. I love playing but I don't like to watch. NBA that is.

I really love the anatomy on the comic book character... you can see the tension in his neck muscles as he flies up with the weight of the guy hanging off him. Great job!

well, i actually like any lead pencil BUT for some reason i tend to prefer 0.5 lead. it lays down on the paper pretty dark and i need that cuz anyone whoes seen my stuff in person knows that my marks are pretty light. so i guess to counter that i like to use dark lead......hope that answers your question.....talk to you soon and thanks for commenting!!

also, in regards to the sports thing! i love em, besides drawing my other loves(not to mention my girl and family) are football and basketball, i play both alot, i use to play mayB 3 times a week and have cut down cuz of school but ill be back out there, anyways i love to watch nfl and NBA. oh, i know you said you didnt like watching nba but you gotta watch this kid from the heat ------> Dwayne Wade. wooooh! this guys a baller!!!!! GO heat and GO dolphins!!!!

sometimes at work there aint no pencils so you gotta grab what you can and make do. i gotta ball point pen and well here ya go. ofcourse with pens theres always mistakes, but the fun part is figuring out how to cover up those mistakes to make it look like you didnt make any. did that make any sense at all?! hope to hear from ya and see you guys sunday!

Sajad, i'm really likin this thread man.
I personally love using ballpoint pen, and know exactly what you're sayin. In fact I've found myself usin alot more of it than pencil recently...
Anywho, you said you wanted comments to help you improve, but I really can't think of any, you seem to know exactly what you're doin.
PS: One of the coolest thundercats fanarts i've ever seen lol!

February 25th, 2004, 12:23 PM

Yet again Sajad, im impressed.
im not a Wrestlin fan, but I do know who Kane is, cos my little bro used to watch it. That pic is great.
I like the angel girl and the punisher pics, and your comic layout.
They're mostly all great. Some of your earlier pics have some slight anatomical issues (you probably know this), but they're still good, I couldn't draw like that in high school.
You plannin on doin any colour works, or finished inks?

Well i did say it looked like a Honda, but didn't say it was a Honda, by looking at it now yeah it is a Miata, thought it reminded me of the S2000 that's why I thought it was a Honda, but now I can see the Headlights and the front shape of car is different. Sajad126 you know who Brett Booth is, you got a similiar style to his, who has a similiar style to Jim Lee, i'm trying to get to that level as well. Keep up the good work.

cool, glad to see you guys liking my stuff, im hoping to get back on the pencil and paper wagon again becuase right now im in the middle of a semester and its a tough one. oh, BLADES!! as far as reference goes, i dont use any. which is probably why my life drawings are so inconsistant. i tend to like to make things very "comic booky", if thats the right word!! the only other kind of reference i use is when i use my favorite comic book artists for inspiration. if you wanna see some awesome art go to adam hughes website and travis charest website! those guys are off the hizzy! !! know what i mean! lol, anyways, im at work 2morrow so hopefully i can sketch up something and post it up 2morrow and wassup with the fascination with gambit ? lol, but im on it, ill bust one out for ya hopfully 2morrow. thanks again!! later guys!

lol, i wanna do comic books, just have been real lazy cuz when ever im off of school, i play basketball, football, play video games(HALO's amazing when you play slayer mode with a bunch of people, we connect like 3 Xboxes) but hopefully i will get into it soon, cuz i would love the extra cash!! im gonna start putting stuff together at the end of this year cuz im finally graduating at the end of this year from school with a degree in electrical engineering....so hopefully youll see something then. Well, i never thought of it as a career, but if i could do this all over again, i would definately do art as my major but im so far in this i cant stop now. anyways, im in school as we speak, in the middle of a lecture so i gotta get back to this, ill be at work tonight so ill sketch something and scan it and post it. im guessing gambit cuz that was a request. lol, aight peeps, later.

aight well, i seen a lotta people doing this so i thought i might do it as well, show you guys my process of thinking. anyways, no pencil at hand so i went at it with a pen while at work, AGAIN! anyways, here you go!! hope its aight !

i started out with the basic quick sketch of the body.....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/billy126/first_image.jpg

then i went at the head and started outlining, oh and saw that the left arm was too long so i shaped it up, realized the head was too small but HEY its in pen so i stuck with it......
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/billy126/2nd_image.jpg
started to fill in the body.....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/billy126/3rd_image.jpg
filled in the rest...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/billy126/4th_image.jpg

ahh.. multiplayer halo.. we've had 4 xbox's connected one time.. 16 guys.. crazy. I know what you mean by having to finish your current schooling, though there is nothing wrong with a second degree. Having both an art background and a technical background makes you an incredibly valued asset amongst studios, such as pixar (damn near everyone there needs to know how to use a computer and how to draw). I'd say forget about making comic books ...it's practically a dead medium...you got the talent though maybe you should think about being a concept artist !!! Get to draw all the stuff comic guys get to draw except you constantly get to be original and not draw the same character a 1000 times ... something to think about...I really liked that Gambot drawing you might think about submitting an ink portfolio to a comic company you have a lot of skill with ink it would seem

sajad126
June 6th, 2004, 01:38 AM
actually to be stupidly honest, im not sure what a concept artist is and what they do and how i would even get started into something like that......i always say i wanna draw comics cuz thats what i know, but like anyone else here...i just wanna draw period! and if i can get paid for it great!! hopefully ill end up doing something with this and ill be the happiest guy you have ever met! lol......thanks for the kind words!

Your new drawings are great as always, and that Gambit one is Fukkin' Awesome, I was going to ask you how you draw your outlines, now I know.

Think of concept artist as a guy who draws what the writer is telling you. If he says he wants a half nake beast man with giant teeth and holds an axe, then you draw what you think that character looks like, your creating a character for him, and also a world. Your ideas will help bookwriters, filmmakers, advertisements come alive, but Pogonip is right comic book is slowly fading away, but I still collect some once in awhile, but I collect it strictly for the artwork now. Sad thing about being an artist that works under a company is that your character becomes their property, and you have to ask permission (even if you created him/her/it/thing/whatchamacallit) to host it on your website, or some other form of media. Unless you try out for Image comics or other comic companies that let you keep your created characters.

I've been so busy working on some concept art for my game development team, but I do need to redesign it. Right now i'm comtemplating if I should do PHP or just regular HTML with some javascript codings. Once I figure that out I'll let ya know, then you can put your artwork there for your online portfolio. Anyone else who doesn't have a webspace and needs an online portfolio just let me know, I've got tons of space, maybe enough for 15 artist total. It's free to all fellow artist.

There are a lot of resources online, including php.net. Have you ever programmed in C or Java? PHP is very similar being object oriented. I'm sure you'll be able to find some simple tutorials online via google. A good book that I have is PHP and MYSQL Web Development by Welling. Covers a lot of the basics and advanced stuff. Good luck! :)

Damn even back then you were skilled at drawing.

No problem Sajad...I like helping the community out....right now I'm trying to think of a site layout for the main page, which will then lead to each individual artist's personal portfolio page, and kinda slump cause I wanna give it an eyecandy effect, so if anyone here knows about PHP and how to make dynamic webpages help this noobie out.

Well if you already know these options then don't mind it:

There's acouple of ways to get your art looked at by comic book companies. Most artist will actually show their portfolio during comic book conventions, if the guy likes your stuff then they usually take down your phone number, or show it to other artist and see what they like. I've read alot about comic book artist's bio about how they got discovered, and most are discovered this way.

Then there's the submission process in which you draw a acouple of pages of comic book layouts showing what you can do and mail it straight to the comic book company, but they get so much that it usually take awhile before you get a letter from them telling you if you got it or not.

and last but not least ask how some comic book artist that post here about how they got their jobs.

Miro and Hoon are from Dark Horse, they were working on a starwars one, I'm thinking about picking that one up.
Koro as well had worked with Dark Horse, so maybe your direct connection is with them.

Well hope it helps, and Sajad if you have a way you want to setup your online portfolio, let me know, cause the main page don't have to be up right away. So I can tailor it to your needs, and wants.

well, i kinda taught myself through comics and stuff, you see what other artists do in certain situations and kinda mimic and try to improvise on them yourself....then after a while, you see that they all are kinda doing the same thing just with there own variations. am i making any sense? lol, hopefully i did....other than that its just practice and practice and then more practice. also, try not to use refernce at first in your drawings, then after your done look at a reference to compare and see what it is that you are doing wrong. get it? anyway, hope i was of some help, if not lemme know and ill try to better explain myself. thanks all for the kind words again! hopefully ill post something 2morrow, if not i will definetaly post by tuesday, anyways, gotta run! later!

alrighty I figured it out.. the reason your drawings really intrigue the eye are because they tell A LOT of information with very little drawing. The way you draw your shadows leads to a lot of continued lines which the eye fills in and since everyone's eye is different each drawing becomes personal for whoever is looking at it. You are able to give them a narative of their own, which makes it so interesting. Definate talent, keep it up mate!

With as skilled as you are, i see no reason for you to waste your skills doing something non art related. all this praise is well deserved by this artist and i'm sure he appreciates it...(sorry for putting words in yer mouth), but maybe he's going to school to pay the bills. i mean...getting an art related job is no easy task...(i'm currently unemployed) and art related jobs are not always worth the stress and frustration involved. little money, lots of stress. it really sucks when drawing stops being fun and starts getting controlled by someone with a lot of money and zero taste.

anyway, my two cents.

Wow that's some amazing work you're doing man. I can understand what you're saying about taking Engineering, but you should definately enter into an art school after you graduate I am sure your parents wouldn't mind helping you out financially if you needed it, and trust me IT WILL PAY OFF.
(BTW If you are brown then I can understand how you ended up in engineering).

I have been drawing casually since I was really young, but now I would like to get more serious with it, and it was really interesting seeing the steps you take to make your drawings (the Gambit). I was just wondering if you had learned how to draw anatomy or shading SOLELY with comics or did you ever pick up a book which specifically dealt with those subjects? Also, were you always a wikked drawer or did it take lots of practice and trial and error?

You are doing a great job draw some MORE TMNT, and some Samurai Pizza Catz lol.

hey sajad, I've been enjoying your thread here. You've got alot of really nice drawings. Allow me to chip in 2 cents, but keep in mind I'm only trying to help, I don't mean this negatively...

Sometimes your drawings don't look cohesive. take the superman drawing, followed by the spawn drawing, below. If I didn't know better, I would think that 2 different (but both good) artists had drawn them. You seem to really lack the original feel, at least in these later posts, I like in comic artists like Humberto Ramos or Cary Nord. When I look at your drawings, I get the feeling that you don't really understand what you are drawing, that you are thinking about what to draw and using a visual memory bank of how you solved that problem in the past, or how some other comic book artist solved the problem. There isn't a cohesive understanding that tells me "this guy is about to punch now". It looks like a picture punching, but the arms, legs, face, or whatever are drawn with varying degrees of confidence. The drawing that really struck me with this thought is the Venom hunching over. The torso and arms look really good. The hands and face are both substandard compared to the rest of the work in this thread.

All I'm saying is that it appears that the success of which you carry out a drawing rests on your visual rememberance of learning from a comic book on how to solve the problem. I think if you really studied some anatomy for a couple months, it would come fast, and really benefit your drawings, give them a cohesion, and help solidify your own unique style and add stronger knowledge for more interesting poses of your characters. Also, some drawings from life would balance things out some, give you a stronger base, and improve upon your already solid knowledge.

I hope this came across right. Just something to think about. I am really enjoying your thread.

hey any criticism is good criticism. well not really, but you know what i mean, lol. i undersatand what you saying though. i am totally working from a memory bank cuz i dont use refernces in a majority of my sketches, i figure in comic books everything is fictional so might as well fictionate with it, but i totally understand what you saying. the only thing i disagree with is when you say that im kinda planning what im drawing, for abouy 90% of the sketches i have no idea what im drawing cuz the sketch kinda takes its own direction. sounds weird but thas how it goes.....thanks again for the help, it is much appreciated and i will take it into account. thanks alot though and lemme know more of what you think !
heres a sketch while at work again. i only like the way the person in the center came out, other than that its kinda garbage. you know what i just realized, the only time i have to draw anything is at work or during a lecture at school, other than that i gotta hit the books.......dang, im glad to be done with school in 6 months(HOPEFULLY) so that i can start actually trying to do different stuff with this and make some money, thas the goal any way!!! lol, anyways, sorry for rambling i was kinda talking aloud, ahaha, but we family now so it dont matter! lol, later!

The dude with the horns seems a bit off on the neck,
I think, it might be a good excersice for you to try to make
normal people, most of you caracters are very, very athelic,
maybe some regular persons studies would make your art more
versatil

P. S. and by the love of mike! apply to an art school!
some academic practice would make a complete master of you
on any tecnicque he, he; plus you might make some
cool contacts while you asist there :waves:

keep posting you experiments dude :chug:

have i ever been to an art class? well yeah the normal ones at high school....they were pretty fun but they barely worked with pencil. it was more of clay and stuff like that which is cool too.
i think your right max, i should try and do mor normal characters...good advice ill give it a go. and about the art school, well see what happens after i graduate, thanks again though!!!

Damn...you just draw that stuff in school or at work.
Takes you prolly 10 minutes for the outlines and another 5 to add detail.
If there was a crying smilie I'd use one here.
Awesome stuff man. I love the way their anatomy/hair/faces look(s).

YUPPY!!! i love Humberto Ramos, and i especially love the comic Out There, even tough i only do get it french here...boohoo!
anywayz, i was thinkin [and god knows that only happens once every 3 years :p ], why not make a tutorial for the invisiable man? you know, with the bandages on his face and the tranchcoat and the hat etc...
start out by showing us the quick sketch and finishing with the final ink
other suggestions:
- doc oc
- the green arrow
- the penguin
- have two characters next to each other, one being doctor jekel, and one being, well, who else then barbara streisand...no.[mr. hyde]

Oh man...

I just came across this thread and I've gotta say your style looks like you've been working in the field for years. How far along are you in college? Like, when you say 'too late to change majors' does that mean you're a senior? I mean, you can change majors pretty late in the game, and no thave to backtrack too much.

Anyway, I'm sure you've heard it all before.

Your images are phemomenal. The fifth one down in your first post is my, IMO, the best one in the thread. I love using a ball point pen. It helps giev you an idea of what lines really matter, and which one's you can leave out.

Just wanted to say I love your work, and I look forward to seeing more.

sajad126
August 18th, 2004, 07:59 PM
thanks again for the nice words....in regards to how far along i am in my education? this is actually my last semester so im pretty sure it wouldnt be worth it to switch majors now, lol. and thanks for noticing the ball point pen picture, i was trying to do something from the matrix. that piece prolly took me the longest of all of em, not cuz of the drawing itself which i think is bull dooky but the leather outfit. it kinda came out the way i wanted it to which is good i guess! so, glad you liked it !!
about anatomy? nawh i havent really studied it which is why in some of my stuff its really wrong if you look at it for a while. ive got to improve on it and hopefully one day ill be happy with it. i basically got all my anatomy from comic books and real life, kinda mixed em both. what i need to improve on the most is background stuff and i think womens anatomy. ill be working on as soon as im outta school ! ! woohoooo !!! im almost out i see the freaking LIGHT! !!!!! anyways sorry i dont have anything to post but there letting me work overtime at my job and hey i need the flo, i will hopefully have something soon enough though ! ! thanks again to everyone who posted and let me know what they thought, and any advice is much appreciated ! ! see you guys friday when i will have something to post !! :) PIZZOW!!

Man, you should do up a portfolio and do the Convention circuit, get some pro advice and make contacts. Electrical engineering is great but it is also something to have while you try to break in to a field or you could make some money and then journey to New Jersey for a Joe Kubert Education at his sequential arts school

August 21st, 2004, 02:55 PM
You are a great artist, your drawings are great rendered and show depth........but all the stuff you've shown are only pin-up drawings, you gotta show some sequential drawings (comic strip panels), draw 2 or 3 comic page layouts.

By the way..Keep up the great work.

hey Saj.. I dont doubt your ability.. you have a great grasp of anatomy and comp and structure.. but the thing that bugs me about your stuff.. and something I feel I myself am lacking; a lack of variety in expression. Most all of your drawings have the same intent stare. It'd be nice to see something different in the emotional range. But as it goes now great sketches. Can you color?

Your caracter pics are very good
as usual your weak point is more
related to enviromets, I would
suggest doing more of those,
last one needs more work
and the perspective Vanishing points
lines are a bit off too,
you need to get to make
more drawing form life man!!

Do more drawing form life and you
will see that your library of images get bigger
and your images will be more rich.

keep updating the thread too man! :D :painting: :painting:

Looked through all of your characters, must say you have some nice work here. Now you have to do the same thing I did I few years back. Start using color, take your knowledge of form and then apply it to other things. The only thing that makes some of your drawings week is it seems like you draw a great character then fall asleep when its time to do a background. I am anxious to see you improve, you have a lot of raw talent...

Ok i saw that you are really great in proportions, shading, dynamical motions, compostion, details and outlines. I would say itīs time to do more coloring, to have a 100% comic artwork.
Please correct me if I wrongly lies, but you have not much colored works at this moment (I also locked at your website).

my sajad-related quote:

"I used to be 'The Pakistani Kid Who Could Draw' in junior high school...until billy came along. *grumblemumble*"

Thank you all for confirming what I've been saying for half my life. Sajad is an amazing talent, mashallah and all that. When he truly lets loose he's going to leave a mark on the world that'll be long remembered. And the crazy thing is he's ALWAYS been able to draw good (it's in his blood), and you should SEE him do it. It's instantaneous. Completely at ease, completely untrained, and he does all this just sitting there in a few seconds. AND he's got no ego. I've only seen professional artists have such ease with drawing. For me it's like tearing an arm off, and I can't get anywhere near the same effect. And as the thread shows, he keeps getting better.

i like the chair one, billy.

pretty outdated, but it shouldn't be a pain to color lineart i ps if it is lined paper. just go to image>adjustments>levels (Ctrl+L) and select Blue from where it says RGB on top, and slide the triangles until they are not visible anymore, and it's ready for coloring.

Hey Sajad, great pics, i really am trying to draw the comic style bodies in my notebooks all the time, never works out quite so well, especially since i can't shade worth crap, which shows even more with pen.

ONE SUGGESTION. DRAW FEET.

In most of these pics, you cut off the feet, or stop drawing below the feet, or put someone in tall grass, or in water.

Draw feet. ya.

Glad to see your cruising once in awhile here, you should really start doing some comic book page layouts, it's a good thing to show to comic book companies to show them what you can bring to the table. If you haven't seen some of JadeDragon's comic book pages, I suggest you do, it's some great shit. Keep posting I'm already missing your stuff.

yeah these are ok...
KIDDING!!! why are you an engineer student? If you think you arent good enough to make it as an artist....you have some REAL self esteem problems. How about this, on your next engineering test just draw something amazing (anything in your case) and be like "F engineering, it sucks!" hand in the test, and apply to some place that you can take advantage of your godly skills. You being an engineer, would be like Einstein saying he wanted to be a janitor; it just wasnt meant to be.

Hrm... I think the 'it's too late to change majors' bit is silly. With that talent, you could finished college, do it all over again in art school and still make it well off.

You've got quite a gift, and it's a damn shame it's being put to use in electrical engineering class.

Either way, best of luck to you, these sketches are badass.

Yo these new ones are great the invisible girl one is the BEST, cause it's looks just like her. Billy you can either make another photobucket account if you want, I have two as well. Did you ever get the doteasy website transfer, it should have been sent, it stays only for a week and then it won't let you complete the form unless I sent out another request let me know if you got it or not, if not i can send you another request and tell me what day you want me to do it, so you'll have a week within that do to complete the info before it expires. Aight man peace out, and keep em coming, would love to see you take on the human torch.

woah. I checked out hiddenscrolls and just had to see your sketchthread too. I'm impressed. You've got a control over value, imo right up there with JoshuatheJames (the value himself). I could go on, but suffice it to say "I likey!!"

Keep em coming.

Wow, that's alot of pics, just sat down and looked through all your sh*t....very nice stuff. The only real nitpick I was thinking about is that alot of your poses are pretty standard and you weren't really inventing any new, dynamic poses with some real hard foreshortening of the body, legs, arms etc...but it seems you started to branch out abit with the last few pics. Some of your guys have real long members, either arms or legs (not often) but I reckon that is from drawing in pen, pen is a bitch for that, not being able to fix shit....anyways enuff rambling, AWESOME stuff man, keep it up...

take it easy...

thanks for the advice guys ! really appreciate it cuz sometimes you cant really tell whats wrong with a drawing unless someone else who sees it for the first time actually tells you....:) thanks again!
so i was actually for the first time messing around with photoshop, the only things i know how to do is use the magic wand button to fill in colors, and sort of figured out how to use the lasso tool.......i know theres something with the filters and layers stuff but i have no clue how to use em....well this is my first thing done on photoshop....only using the dang lasso tool and the fill in thingy thas how i tried to do the shadows and stuff which took me some time...there has to be an easier way that i dont know about.......man im such an ASS.....this sux so bad !! now i wanna learn how to use the dam thing so i dont embarrass myself, lol !!! anyways, i need some tutorials or some shit like that cuz as you can see i have no clue how to use the program.....later guys any help would be appreciated !
