Guess not much of the stronghold can be seen here.
Obviously I did not think enough.
:emb:
But at least it was fun.

Damn it's a hard one today, but I'll try doing a "quick" sketch this time. Don't know what is gonna look like... :emb:

Hey gang,

kaptah: Good setting, but the jeep is a little hard to see. And it looks like it's angle is a little off. Perspective wise it appears okay, but something about the angle is bothering me.

UrbanMafia: Cool concpet. Might want to think about adding some lower trees in to give a further sense of scale.

Signature: Good concept. I would use a stronger/deeper color pallet and try to bring the buildings and the guy out some more.

young paddy1: I like your lighting effects! The camp reminds me of the Ewok tree village :D

Catapult Beetle: Nice b/w. I don't see many here, so it's a fun change. The officer's rifle is a little hard to spot in front of the dark window.

Kartoffel: I like the mood in yours, but your camp looks like it was imposed over the pic of the trees. I'd bring the tree and ground right aroudn the camp more into focus to help ground it. This will also help establish a solid focal point for you. I'd also work on the river some with harrsher (but not too harsh) highlights.

Well, here's mine for the day. I'ts a Faerie Stronghold (A Faerie Fort?)

Had a bit of the 'FarCry' fever when I did this. Played the demo a while back and that gave me inspiration.

i spent about a hour to paint the interior, until i realized, that with an open gate it looses all the stronghold-character...

fortunately i`m well trained in elephants n gargoyles ;)

After spending hours working on my thunderdome entry, i just wanted some quick colorful fun. Don't know if you can see anything in this pic, but i don't really care. It was fun.

And if you'd happen to accidently stumble upon my thunderdome thread against Bretton, leave a message ;)

I ran out of steam before I could get to the encampment. I suspected this might happen when I started but I didn't want to let it slide. I'll do some better work tomorrow.

Love the colors, littleone.

moops, Iotrez, Oregano, Railboy and littleone, you guys always have such a great atmosphere to your dsgs... i cant believe these are "quickies" ...

well, here's my thang - I've been getting frustrated at how much time it takes me to create something so rough digitally... I could spend half the time and come up with something a lot more polished with pen and paper...

oh well, practice is the only way to get better...

45min Photoshop 7

any crits and advice are appreciated

Dahsramu,

I understand your frustration. I feel the same way frequently. And for the same reason. Give me a pencil or pen and paper and I can crank it out. I think better on paper.

Something that I do, and I'm sure most of the other people working digitally (since that's where I got the idea) is to block in large patches of color first, then work up your piece.

Taking it a step or three further, I usually do either a pencil or pen sketch first, then scan it, then block in the colors.

I didn't do that on today's for two reasons: I didn't have the time and I wanted to practice doing the sketch on the computer first. I kept things pretty loose for this one, but you can see where I sketched in the guy on the computer, especially around the face area. So the basic process was essentially the same.

I do the same process for all of digital work. 1 Sketch, 2 Block, 3 Detail.

Hope that helps.

Oreg.

Hey guys! I just "finished" my drawing. (my character is not quite finished hehe), but I took 3 hours and maybe more doing it. Maybe one day speed will be on my side :p

Tell me what you think plz! :argue:

I've heard that thing about paper being easier to work on too Oregano, though i find it easier to work digitally because its more forgiving. I pretty work the same way you've mentioned, except i leave the line work out because i dont draw very well.

I saved a few process shots of this too if anyones interested...em, probably not.

Actually I'm interested in the progress shots. What are you doing to get the ambient texture?

Wednesday, that came out *very* nice. Are you working in photoshop or painter? I've pretty much given up photoshop except for more technical aspects.

I'd be interested to see your progress on a piece like yours as well as sort of a check and measure against my own stuff.

this is kinda lame (im not a very experinced painter) but here it goes..

http://members.rogers.com/mypicshere/images/things.jpg

[words that try to describe teh pictures above]
right, so there's 5 mins in between those states, starting blurry and vague because i really have no idea of what im doing. i put color variation here and there and try to make things look more readable with harder brushes. teh lighting in this is very hacky because my brain was off, same goes with teh forms, shapes etc. (goes off to draw boxes for a very long time)

that was done in photoshop cs, turning on textures on teh brush settings will get you textures, in painter it'd be your grain and paper settings (davi made a thread about it a while ago).

hope this is somewhat helpful
