View Full Version : TAD Scholarship Recipient (The Katherine Stuart Scholarship Award): Dorian Iten
February 5th, 2010, 08:26 PM
The Art Department would like to extend a sincere congratulations to Dorian Iten (featured artist "dorian" on these forums) who has won our second TAD scholarship! "The Katherine Stuart Award" is a full ride scholarship and stipend which was created to award artists who show excellence in classical studies and exhibit leadership on the community of ConceptArt.Org. This exclusive award is a special opportunity as it also includes an adjunct teaching position enabling the artist to support their studies simultaneously while leaving them free of the cost of education.
Dorian has spent the past years studying and completing the Angel Academy in Florence. He is an example of a traditionally trained artist who has gone to great lengths to understand what he sees, and develop his technical aptitude for media handling, drawing, and painting. Now is his time to move past the technical and see success in honing his ability in creating from imagination and his personal Point of View. Dorian will be joining us here in Austin and will be teaching Cast Drawing. When he applied it was clear that Dorian was winning this second TAD scholarship.
The mark of an artist who is a true student, regardless of skill or previous success, is obvious when it is clear that they are aware of their own areas needing improvement. Dorian has a deep desire to create his visions and to be a successful independent artist. With hard work he will have that and more. One look at his work shows his ability to focus and strive. His experimentation with digital media is also beginning to pay off. At TAD he will be encouraged to experiment. He will be able to focus on the areas he knows he needs improvement.
As part of TAD's provided success, Dorian will be sharing his considerable life drawing and painting skills as part of the Foundations program here. Rest assured, when Dorian is done, he is going to be a unique artist in the world of art. After he is through the program he will be set up for success. In order to get there, he has this award.
It is clear Dorian is going to excel and achieve his goals and we expect him to stay focused. His classical studies are in place. His optical drawing is superior and his media handling is prepared. He is on the road to being both a teacher and a unique artist. He shows his humbleness, his open mind, and let's his art do the talking. For these reasons and more, he is officially the first winner of the Katherine Stuart award. Congratulations Dorian!
At TAD, the artists who come with foundations completed do not participate in foundations which they show mastery. They will, instead, spend time focused in the areas they need to work through until it is mastered. Each student is handled individually. TAD is not a standard art school. TAD is helping students of all experience levels, not just those who have finished school already, like our second scholarship winner below has. Whoever the artist, they will get exactly the content they need to take forward steps efficiently, and with purpose, as the strive to reach their goals.
Artists of this skill level, and also the first scholarship winner Jana, in TAD highlight what every art student knows. Those who succeed in school always learn a lot from those they are studying with. This is why we always tell people here on CA, that they must see the instructor and student work from where they study. This is why TAD instructor work is on our site. If the work is strong on all sides, then success can be found there. I can tell you I was glowing when this next application came in.
It is important to understand that the TAD program is flexible to the students. There are no grades. Students move on when the instructors and jury of professionals agree that the information is known. The program is tailored to each student's needs.
The Art Department.

dive deeper into the studies & application and jointly follow the passion!
I have been and am learning so much from this wonderful community, I sincerely hope
I can amp up my giving back!
Also, no words can aptly describe my gratitude to Maestro Michael John Angel and
Jered Woznicki of Angel Academy for their truly excellent instruction.
Changed my life... (as did the friends I found in Florence, you know who you are :))
Well... yeah. I'm not all that comfortable with that spotlight... sooo,

I've been trying to get info about the scholarships and how to apply but my email for more information was never answered. Think you or someone from CA can help me out?
February 8th, 2010, 10:07 PM
The scholarships are being considered from the pool of submission for TAD. That information can be found under the "apply" tab at the top of The Art Department's website: http://www.theartdepartment.org
February 10th, 2010, 03:02 PM
sorry for hijacking the thread, but I also sent an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org last week with a lot of questions in it, but haven't been answered yet. Should I just be patient or is there a possibility it has been lost or forgotten?
