a magic card. they usually are a horizontal format but i changed it to fit my initial version of it. he's big, he is a golem, and he is supposed to be made of iron that continually grow out. did this awhile ago but you have to wait for them to publish the cards before showing it to anyone.

Very nice, i love the rough, maybe slightly rusty texture of the golem. Nice lighting.

Domineer!

I love the "teeth" on the golem, as well as the wizard's pose. Great piece!

at first it felt like something wasnt right.. then it grew on me in a few seconds of looking at it.. iono maybe i just dont really like the face, or the woman seems out of place, something about it doesnt seem to capture me like your other pieces... but i love the armor and the spikes, and the form anyway..

I like how he looks like this big tough guy, but yet he has a smile painted on his armour. Terrific:thumbsup:

So the girl doesn't show at all in the Magic card?

I am in awe of the emptyness of the golems texture in the bottom of it. it is really hard to say stop, and just let the contour of the figure tell the story.

Wouldn't it have been possible to compress some of the belly region where not much is happening to achieve the standard format?
Also, the golem face is a bit hard to read, but since magic cards are small the silhuette is probably more important.

I like the presence lady, she brings scale and familiarity to the pic.

thanks for the responses.

i painted this in photoshop and painter. start by sitting around with a good friend of mine at a restaurant, he has magic cards to do as well. start sketching and just see where the pencil takes me (with the basic idea of the card bouncing around in my head). usually the thumbnail is quite ruff but i just bring it into photshop blow it up and continue on. work it up in black and white for lighting and volume then start to add color. the texture came from some excellent painter brushes that someone here posted a link to along time ago. they are pallet knife version and way cool.

they made me take the teeth off for the card.

jeez I donno´ mr. foster, you post all this great stuff and now this? what are your fans supposed to think?
god...
haha JUST kdding, this is Kool, the dripping paint is a GREAT touch and nice and original for a metallic monster. I bet it reads great on a card too. I would say it needs more detail in his and her body, and maybe in the bground but it´s for a card so...
I feel like I should crit this so I don´t give another ¨great post¨ post... but, fuck, great post man.
Can you show the card format?

i'm very impressed with the use of texture in the blue areas of the background...it looks like a traditional impasto...and the texture on the bot is great. i've already confessed my love for you in many other posts...so i'll leave it at that...-c36
