Thanks guys. I alway a little hesitant to post this kind of stuff because of speed in which they're done. (hmm, is Dan making more excuses for his marginal drawings)
Mark- thanks brother. You can back me up on the "Too many drawings and not enough time thing".
MCM- thank you sir as always
Skank- Thanks as well No I did not work on the first one, Saw a screen of this one the other night. It turned out real nice.(in a scary screamy lots of blood kinda way)
Nick- Glad you like the little girl, the actress does a great job in the film.
el- Thank you my man. saw your piece on the Horror thread. Quite simply crapped my pants.
JP- No JP your MY hero so knock it off.

the pacing of those storyboards is so perfect!!!!! I was at the edge of my seat while progressing through them... really awe-inspiring stuff!!!
well, what else can you expect from a pro...:D
the fade to black kinda sucks though... like MGH said - what happens next?!??!?
I'm also really digging the third painting... I dont know how many times I've tried to draw a werewolf in that exact pose but my work always looked anatomically impossible... looking at your work is truly humbling and inspirational all at the same time... :Pimp:

Very nice.
I'll be saddened if this turns out to be yet another case of the storyboards being more exciting and well-executed than the actual film they're for.
Edit: Huh, I can't believe I was never aware of Ginger Snaps 1, which according to reviews, is apparently one of the better werewolf films out there.
Well, that certainly puts a little more faith in me with regards to a sequel for a film I'd previously never heard about.
I'll definately have to check out the original, and its sequel.

Crap! You and your damn storyboards! You make it look so easy. I'm doing some storybaords right now and they're hard, not that I thought they'd be cake, but shit... You're workin' it as always. Nice pacing, nice angles, nice compositions. All of it. Love it. Props. Peace

Thanks you all
janni- I spent about 15 mins. per frame, just because of the volume that I'm asked to crank out. And they're all digital. Makes for fast turn around and quick changes and easy delivery. (Yes, storyboards are the fast food of the illustration world.)
Phuz- Great to hear your having a kick at some boarding- We're a fragile bunch and need all the support we can get. Post some, I'd love to see them.
Peace out wolf children
Dan
"Peace out wolf children?" WTF. Oh well It sounded clever when I typed it.

Those storyboards are great and for 15min each, wow! Do you do a little thumbnail for each one or just jump straight in? At first I thought it was a mixture of charcoal and pencil but you mentioned it was digital so its interesting. The texture gives it a great quality and feel to it. kudos.

You have so much strong skills with your story boards. You make it look very easy :)
I hope that it will be THE werewolf project I'm waiting for years !!!

Matt- I often do little thumbnails as the director talks to me, but there're real fast just a few seconds each. Its like taking short hand. If I don't look at them again soon after I've sketched them i often don't have any clue what they mean.
Jon-Love ya
BOne- thanks, I'm not real werewolf kinda guy, but oddly I did three werewolf project last year.
Any how here's more from the pile.

The 2nd lot are great. It is only a minor thing but having the 1 line descriptions in the 2nd lot of posting makes it so much easier to 'read'. Just out of curiousity, on an average day, how many 15min panels would you do?

fantastic boards dan--and i really love that second drawing of the werewolf from the top.
so how do you get all those straight lines in there (perspective)?

February 2nd, 2004, 08:07 AM
Matt- thanks, It’s hard to say how many frames I get done in a day. The way I work is usually the "When do you need them" method. I don't know... lets say 40+ frames. If you give me 5 days it will take 5 day and if you give me one day it'll take one day. Like my dad would say "nothing ever gets finished, you just run out of time." Also once I pass the frames off they're put into a production book with includes more written detail about the shots. plus the people who see these are familiar with the storyline. Storyboards aren't pretty, they're functional. So I apologize if they're hard to follow at times.
Hey Ty In Painter on a Mac if you hold the shift key it constrains the stroke, but only on the vertical or horizontal or 45 degrees. Perspective lines i mostly freehand.
Peace

The film's getting pretty good reviews so far according to rottontomatoes. Excellent work.
Also, apparently what made the first film so good was that it was a very quasi-realistic and witty sarcastic take on the werewolf story. Although I do keep hearing people complain that the film loses its head of steam about halfway through.
The sequel's strength, from what i'm reading so far, is apparently in its execution (better creature effects and better choreographed action...which means you did a great job Dan, woohoo!) and the performances by its actors. Its weaknesses this time are apparently that it sometimes comes off as being a bit too self-congratulatory in its humor, but the humor that "works" makes up for it.

Strong work Dan!
You look to have a very speedy and effective technique.
Quick questions if you have time.....
1. Do you have an agent the represents you?
2. Are you a member of union, like the "local" in LA?
3. How's the storyboard/concept design biz in Canada?
Thanks!
Phil

Dan- Yeah, I saw a screening of the film. It was good. Had a David Fincher feel to it. The director (Brett Sullivan) worked hard on the action sequences.
Phil- No I don't have an agent, I've had them in the past, but no one can run our business the way you can. Plus I enjoy people, and I think that’s part of our business we never talk about. What I mean is I think the drawing and painting is half the battle. The other half is how we present ourselves and handle situations.
Not a union member either.
The majority of work I do is ad agency and commercial production work. I get offers to do movies, because they shoot many here in Toronto, but I pick and chose based on the duration of the project. I don't like stay tied up on one job for long periods of time.
crap, i can't remember who asked. but each sheet is 8.5 X 11, 4 panels per page.
