Yesterday, i forgot to get an photo of something, im drawing anatomical head nearly every day, and trying out diffrend methods and, i tested realist and technical methods, whichever fits better for me, seems technical got into better result somehow.

But today i drawed 11 drawings alltogether and im gonna post 5 of them, and make an gif from 10 of theese drawings, i drawed this head from nearly every direction and then draw the head with all this knownledge i got from practicing. tomorrow propadly same thing, we will see ^^ but you don't give a crap do you?

oh and PS, i used bit of imagination too on theese drawings ^^

enjoy, if you even read to this far.

"keep on walking" ^^
This is what i made so far today at school, unfortunately i ran out of paper.. -_- so i could not study the feet anymore, but well i did get it from every direction. I also used all kinds of trash paper from school that were left over for this one, better to reuse than throw away even if its low quality :O

And i had to increase contrast too a bit since this pictures from camera were so dark from my room :O they are now like they should be.

And btw i'm ill lol.. though i didin't let it it bother me :O

and another GIF under way XD

Hi J-P Nihtinen,
your architectural stuff is awesome, you really can get lost in these environments.
The anatomy studies are great as well, but I guess they would benefit from more defined lines (or is it just the quality of the photos?).
I would like to see some of your oil-paintings, maybe some painted environments?
Keep it up!

Some random sketches. :O

1: Mostly curly hair studies but also trying to draw like leonardo. XD

2 & 3: 5 min sketches (5 min per person) sorry for weird colors :O i sometimes gotta use auto contrast in photoshop to make theese more lighter cause my camera is just crap and cause my room is really dark. XD

4: My fav sketch i ever did, paperboy, unfortunatly i had really big kids marker so not more detailed :O but i think its fine that way. but i just love this one somehow XD done just like the 5 min sketches, pictures from internet and timer for 5 mins. though this one exeeded the limit but well i dont have anything to complain about that! XD i still learned something. ^^

And oh, im gonna work on new architechtural drawing now, so it might take a while, maybe ever days :O but im gonna do it as well as possible, my teacher will kill me if i wont do it. XDD

iIkinda wanna do it too. ^^

Here comes the new Architechtural drawing! :D took whole day to make it, and i nearly made my new personal record on drawing an city XD best is 9 hours, this took 11.

Shame i didin't have any marker, would have been lot easier job, so i did with 6h Grafite pencil. which is harder to be honest on this kind of drawing, cause if your not careful or start from right angle and corner your own hand might erase entire parts of city :O and even harder is to add tones now, which i will do, but im gonna get marker first at monday or something and make it more secure XD or we will see. ^^

Oh and paper size is A3, in my opinion bigger papers are easier, or they can also be most hardest of all, if you know what i speak of.. ^^

Sorry for bad quality of picture, my camera is just horrid.. and 6h cant be seen well anyway. :S

But when i get marker things will get better =D

Hope you like it though ^^

Sorry for not uploading anything for few days, as i told before i was beginning to be ill when i last mentoned, i could not do anything >_< and i'm still not completely healthy, but well, i can work now so :O theese are drawings from today and yesterday, and day before yesterday. I'm very very disapointed in myself i must say.. :S

im sorry for being so slow, besides i changed model statue to full pose :O but i already really used it, in theese drawings i havent really thought much about accural anatomy, though i have used it and memorized it, its more about body part sizes and how they work together, i want to get good sizes before adding full scaled anatomy to my drawings.

I'm sorry for once again.. but i will work again, like before i got ill! as soon as i can! :D, theese days 9, tomorrow il do that amount in one day i hope XD

enjoy

Im back, once more ^^ and i tell you, i never gave up my working spree haha
let me show you what i did for 5 days. And there are some sketches too =D ^^

Note that there are 2 very large cities here, other one fell down to floor and ripped apart -_-'' this first one was not that large though, and paper was weak.

So.. we did it tougher and bigger of course, tougher paper, larger paper.. BIG IS BEST XD this second one, that is complete, is 1,5 meters tall and 3 meters wide.
To be honest i have more sketches too, but those are drapery and honestly i don't have energy to get those here right now.. tomorrow, or day after tomorrow i belive then.

What i wish now so deeply.. is that someone likes this and comments me about this, critique please.

Hey guys,

I thought about making some larger project once more, and make an animation, this time not any leg or head this time its gonna be city.
And it should be great practice by all sense, i will need to remember every house i have done, and unfortunately i had to use ruler for making horizontal lines exactly same place for my papers so don't mind that, after all this is just practice.

And this is the idea what its gonna be like.

Tell me your ideas, and PLEASE CRIT. this ****!

J-P Nihtinen
February 24th, 2010, 12:08 PM
Sorry for not posting yesterday anything, i forgot my camera to school -_-
well, i must say that i cant do this animation after all so sorry for second time. I dont know why but, i just love to paint, and i was truly overwhelmed by will to paint all the sudden so i'm working on an oil painting at the moment, il still make few sketches besides though ^^ of course.

The painting is about Adam and eve after banishment, on cold world, they are lost in fog, its windy, so cold. but do they mind? no!

They have each other! they love each other! they don't care!

and i'm making a small exeption here then, i often don't do nearly anything classic without model. this is exeption its impossible for me for now.

and i want to be classic.

But here, have a sketch or two, reader.

There are 2 studies of my way of drawing cities, and il use this way to create forms with houses, and i WILL make even humans with them sometime and ONLY with ink, there is no grafite or anything its only the lines.
and sorry n.3 there are too few sketches for the reason that i made this cities, they take lots of time.

I hope you enjoy though.. ^^

Here's morning sketches, unfortunately i ran out of fixative, and today i tried something new, trying to get more of special lines into my sketches.
and it kinda started up well imo, but 1 page got pretty fucked, totally grey, destroying 3 sketches. i fixed them us as well as i could. they are nothing like before but..

i made the same page over with using photoshop to make it something like it was before, even if personally i don't really respect photoshop, since its so easy to do things way too easy, i hate the layers, its somewhat unfair.

and therefore i didin't use them. its just something to make it up for you guys.

and reason why i got photoshop after all is just to change sizes and set lightning to better on my drawings.

im off oil painting now ^^ crit theese more vivid lines please! :O

i think i might make some more today :O after painting bit all for you guys :yayca:

J-P Nihtinen

Here's today's female body studies and practicing differend ways of sketching, sorry if some pictures are bit confusing, some are larger, some are very small, i do this, so i wont get used to just one sized sketches.

It's funny that how i felt like failing at last one, after making 2 small ones, i could not think of entire drawing at end XD but it went well after all :O
human mind is so funny thing ^^

i see that i made some progress in all this time and i think that for now, my thirst for female nudes has been extinquished. FOR NOW..

Tell me what you think about this new kind lines that are pretty easy to see, i mean i used mostly side strokes but handled the pressure of pencil lot more well, i used of course Japanese hold and normal too, but 70% of side strokes.

I mean seriously tell me your thoughts, don't be shy ^^

God, i am sorry for you guys.
I feel like i have let you guys down real bad this time but :S i ran out of fixative, i don't have markers here at my home. and i mean i don't dare to do my sketchbook unless i have fixative or hair spray (yeah i used all hairspray in our house to use it as fixative for theese last 3 pages.

I gotta figure out something to do :S gotta find a way

I'm sorry for just 3 pages but thats all i can do for now, until i get more fixative or test out some pencils that can be used without ruining my sketchbook. :S

Awful situation.. And i think i'm gonna see tomorrow if i can do something, if i can't i'l be reading Leonardo da vinci's working diary :O i must see :S

I'm sorry..

I could do only studies about rapid lines and movement, theese all were done in about 3-5 seconds, note that i did have some attempts that failed, i just didin't wanna even show them since they were after all just 3 lines that were not in right place. Cats are perfect for practicing fast sketching i must say, they never obey or stay still, ALWAYS moving, very hard.

With great sorries -J-P

Sorry once again, for not posting anything here lately, i have little mess here, i got sculpting at school, and i have oil painting left to do too X_X and seriously i have been busy, no time for some sketches but, i must see if at this weekend or next week :O

But as i was thinking about form, and seeing through my sketchbook, i ran int some theory about my cities i made, its a method, i call it 5 form method for now.

It works like this: for example as i make houses, they have 5 lines very often, depends.. i draw 5 houses that must not fail, and they rarely do after all at start. theese are called alpha houses. Next you begin drawing, and everything you do, must be made by linear directions of alpha houses lines, set to be on exact course with wanted line. and as houses come more, more possibilities come to be, also more houses = more free, escpecially on high spots like giant towers and castles due their giantic amount of lines in tight formations.

Doing this, you will never fail, not even one house, no matter how tired you are, no matter when or what you do. but remember this is not complete test :O i have only tested this without perspective (tested like this due being unsure if its gonna work at all)

As i studied this drawing i made myself, i realized a new way of drawing my cities, but that is also.. highly "prototype", but i'm more than sure this works.

PS: drawing with this method also makes things ALOT longer (around 3x).

There is nothing in drawing this way alone, too easy. for you cannot fail, thats why, i'm taking a step here, and study my new theory, you will see the results soon ^^ only thing i can promise is that there will be MASSIVE change.

Today i tested few differend kinds of lines, all ways i know really, and honestly didin't go that well :S i made all 10 drawings of day but, i could fall asleep RIGHT NOW :S i'm quite tired and most drawings.. aren't so good, so im just gonna post the ones that i'm happy with, i also made some drapery today but, i'm just gonna show one cause it was honestly so screwed.

Too tired, i'm gonna go get some sleep, but not gonna stop. Im doing this for practice, for school tests lol XD i just don't wanna go to shit school, i want good school and i seriously wanna get IN!

No matter how tired i am, im gonna do this 10 drawings per day every day, but if not so good, im gonna show only the ones i approve like today.

Yesterday's stuff, today's stuff all the same?

Sorry about yesterday, i was bit tired at evening when i came home :O
and i did as much as i could (4 drawings) and gosh, then i just fell to sleep :O sorry :S

But finally my statue is ready, and its my first serious statue, last time i handled clay was like 7 years ago or such, and now i was serious with it, just wanted some basic forms and sizes, pretty crappy to be honest, but i had fun and you gotta start from somewhere after all :O (PS didin't really use model that much, model's eyes seemed hurt so, i didin't want that, i just can't watch people get hurt cause of my art.

PLEASE crit. it, how to do things, some advice with my miserable sculpting XD

And today i made some girls from imagination, i went for maximal realism, i think i kinda got it but, they also got pretty messy somehow :O

Hope you like this lil' mix

J-P Nihtinen
March 18th, 2010, 12:56 PM
Today's sketches, personal record in amount of poses in one day, i learned like hell i must say, lots of proportions learned, and sense about shadows.

Enjoy.

Really it makes me smile to see how strongly you've started out. You're going to get good. You're doing it the right way! Master copies. It's a very interesting idea for you to do turn-arounds of the heads, and then animate them.

You show architectural drawings. Good! But here's a secret--

it's all architecture... all of it. Figure drawing, you name it. Everything is architecture. It's all design!

Approach figure drawing the same way, and you'll be amazed at the insights you get.

You're working very hard, and improving. Take care to make cleaner lines, and you'll go very very far.

J-P Nihtinen
March 23rd, 2010, 03:02 PM
Ah thank you, i appreciate your comment greatly, it conforts me, that all i do is not maybe in vain after all. :O

But yeah im not sure about cleaner lines, im not usre how to make them, surely i can design what i will do with imagination and do the perfectly designed line without mistake, but it tends to make mistake for me hah! so i rather take it loose and just let it happen you know XD thats why they are so messy, but hey its sketches after all, its like a language for me.

And i deeply thank you for saying about this architechtural tip ^^ i assure you, it will be used, nearly abused? and its funny, i have been thinking on making something like architechtural humans..literally ^^.

I'm gonna try it out :O right tomorrow =D

Thanks again master sage =D

Im' back. showing you my work from few days, i have been tired after those 22 drawings in one day, didin't wanna upload anything for while, but yes! for doing work and..

Trying out differend mediums, still going 100% imagination (with exeptions of few fast hands), but i think i need some accurate studies here, and clean lines :O as Master sage said!
yes yes!

What we learned in 3 days: -9b kicks ass -pressure charcoal = shit -too much imagination drawings = bad, what i did = shit.

Dear reader, it has time for me to make a report,
that i'm going to end my proportion and movement studies (mass amounts of human sketches) for while and focus on more serious matters, i am going to change my way of learning, for sake of a dream. I don't wanna bore you so lets make it short:

Honestly, i don't wanna be concept artist, i never wanted, never asked for it, i'm not here for it.

What i'm here for is to hear your critique, i'm here just cause of all you who read this. And hoping here, every single day that you guys come and literally crush me with critique, its my way of learning.
What i will do here from now on, is serious studies, maximally 5 per day
and reading about my subject, studying the subject till i could remember it perfectly. And i'm mostly gonna do master studies, so its easier to critisize, and besides, it's propadly the best way.

So here we go and start!

I dunno if i have posted the older one of theese before here but i'm gonna do it anyway for sakes of comparsion, i'm not gonna go and look for it seriously from this mess.. i just love work of Leonardo, i always did.. i remember when i was kid i thought there was only one master of art and i thought it was Leonardo.. heheh

Just have fun and, take care of your personal and social life when working guys.. you hear me!?

Please enjoy dear reader. And ALL credit goes for old masters, for i am only an student, now and forever!

Hey guys,
for some time i really haven't put anything in here, i have been tired, really tired and mostly i have been reading my new books =D just finished one, and now moving to anatomy, i'm still going to read for long time, and post here more rarely, i'm not gonna do like tons of drawings now, i'm gonna focus on longer studies always from model, to improve my technical skills with charcoal.
also made my first lower body study too, though i really overdid it.. Atleast it reminded me to not overwork things :O

What i have learned: Using golden cut on every drawing, more anatomy, more proportional rules, directional tricks and meanings, perspective in humans, usage of block in, more knownledge about measuring.. lot more stuff.

Theese drawings are 50% before reading of Classic drawing atelier by Juliette Aristides, i recommend this book for anyone interested in classic forms of art, and practicing them, i'm for that stuff, i'm no concept artist, but this site sure makes nice little "working diary". =D

Greetings for anyone reading this ^^ please comment/critique, i would truly appreciate it. =D

PS: I had some hand anatomy studies but.. nah i would feel like repeating myself ^^.

Here's what i did today, im quite happy with it
after this bit of charcoal drawing, i must say that its better than grafite, in so many ways, cleaner, more flexible ( in drawing methods) and i mean you just need just one or two of those, not like from like 6h to 9b grafite pencil set ^^.

I know its just one work, but i mostly read anatomy and try remember as many muscles as i can :O and how they work, names in latin are hardest though, and remembering their form.

But its also good to make this kind of long studies, even if you would use ALWAYS same freaking model.. (sorry for that, i have drawn everything this school has, for casts and unfortunately there are like 5, and only 1 full figure..

Hope you like it though. ^^

J-P

J-P Nihtinen
April 8th, 2010, 02:30 PM
Well now i know anatomy of arm, but not hand yet, i know all muscles by latin names and here's some practices to make me remember better, but i need more practice with areas of bones of arm and insertio's and origo's.

anyhow, i show you my studies from around 1 week behind to today, in order, its somewhat funny how i failed so hard at start, then slowly i realized things, and more muscles are known, till all are like like my own hands; even more familiar than my own mind.

3 last of theese are from today, i used my own arm as model, and i will from now on.. and first ones aren't right at all i must say (dunno if even now, but i'm getting better).. but you see the progress, i have become more sure, more aware, knowing much more about details.

Once again time takes its toll, as i redeem my prize.

i have been busy (and too lazy to put something here..) with paperwork for university, and other art schools. I also have been busy cause school tasks, my teacher aint gonna give me any break -_- and only time i got is to work after school, which i do :O but at the moment, im working on some large study of Michelangelo's Pieta, i just love that work. So i am drwaing it, as well as i can as respect for Masters, and to pursue to learn to think like Michelangelo did, unfortunately since its sculpture, i can't learn much technical from it, but surely it has been great ^^ and it will be done till next week :O till that il try work.

But anyone reading this, can you give me any tips for tests of university?, like what kind of stuff was there for you?. I know it surely will have at most 3 works, or less, 1 week time and lots of tough Questions from teachers ^^.

Thanks.

And oh, the reason why i updated this, have a Rosehip and charcoal ^^

This is pieta study..so far..
Damn, i just had to show the process of my study so far. ^^
Note that i haven't yet done the face to be anything like original, its just to figure out the big picture.
But, ALL CREDIT GOES TO Michelangelo Buonarroti, greatest artist ever lived!

Please, comment or critizise, id love to see someone else here than just me talking all alone, heheh. ^^

Hey guys, the watercolor and pastel stuff is finally over -___- and i must say, it was shit, for the reason that here in Finland, nearly every school wants modern art, and my teacher seemed to just DESPITE fine arts, and mocked that studying single subject is not so good as drawing freely, with left hand, without knownledge, without a freaking clue about subject.

As Leonardo Da Vinci said once; An artist without knownledge over anatomy is like a sailor without map or compass.

So.. do i give a shit about that modern bullshit?, naw.

But now, its time for digital art and working with photoshop, i must say im not gonna upload anything for a while, im gonna be freaking busy once again, cause next week i got my final task, and after that, maybe some sketches, but then again i might have to go to academy of fine arts in Helsinki for entrance tests, if im lucky =D.

But dont worry,il be back "floodin da channel"

Enjoy, please.

Hey guys, i was wrong lol =D i did have little time as making my final drawing for school, its going great and it will be done in time ^^

:af::ae::ae::al::ai::an::ag: :ag::ao::ao::ad:!!

heres some studies, mainly about scapula and clavicle, since i remember now all muscles of arm (in latin though..) its time for bone areas to get info about accurate insertions and origos of muscles =D

My final mission is soon done, but for now, i just wanted relax and..
well since i have photoshop for making imagines smaller and bigger, i just drawed something for fun, which was.. Skeletor

Kinda light drawing eh?.. well its just for the laughs ^^

Note that i dont have drawing pad, just mouse and im no conceptartist.
Somehow proves how powerful tool Photoshop is.. -_-

The work in this thread is stunning! I particularly admire your study after Leonardo (I believe it's on page 2), the city scape (post#33), and the Pieta study after Michelangelo. The only thing I would suggest, is on the Pieta drawing, you've cut off some arm and some of the Christ figure. it's better for the composition, to try to fit everything in the picture plane with some negative space around the figures. I don't mean to forcibly squeeze, or scrunch it in, but rather to plan the composition so the subject scales better with the space.
That's about my only critique.
Keep it up!

Zombifried, thanks but i accurally do know that getting everything into drawing is good, escpecially if subject's highest part is on totally top edge of paper and lowest part on lowest edge, bit of a challenge. I have read this from Bert Dodson's keys to skill of drawing,

when you do it, it increases overall accuracy of artist, but you know.

I don't wanna do too much things at one time, i'm pretty simple guy, and wanna do one thing by one, when i wanna learn about proportions, i do it, but if i add to that something like this, i'm just gonna be confused, can't help it :S

I listen to your critique though my friend! ;)

I figured you already knew that about the composition. It was the only thing that was glaringly obvious to me at the time. Nothing else really looks too out of place... And, I too, like to only concentrate on one thing at a time.

Awesome sketch work man, I can't believe you've gotten as few comments as you have! I'm especially liking your work with shadow shapes, I love the form you can get just with 2 values and some shape!! and it's refreshing to see someone who loves to draw as much as you do, it really comes across. I'd really like to see some of your work scanned as I bet it looks even better.
Subscribed and will definitely be back again soon!

Heres something for ya, mostly humerus studies and scapula rematch =D

AND! as i was in england, there was one of michelangelo's cartoons in British museum, so i went there after school scheclude and asked, if i could practice from it ;) (yes, it was original).

I didin't wanna do whole thing there, just one sidekick charater, like at renesance times, apprentice could make only one sidekick.

I do this as respect for this man! he was indeed arguably greatest artist of all time.

Tonight im' gonna go and buy some drawing tools again :O
I'm totally out of everything, i mean nothing to paint on, only few papers left, no fixative.. freaking nothing. -_-

So what to do?, well. I tried to sketch a mecha for fun, it's just practice for just the case that i will not someday become fine artist after all, and i would have to take profession of concept art. So even if i simply hate anime and all, i wanted to make my own design of mecha. Only mecha thing i know is Armored core really, it was good game, so yeah. Guess it's re-design of some Armored core char. Dunno.

I had fun, and i promise, i will go get those tools, and do some accural artwork.

Here's few humeruses, got now some fixative for while and also some new charcoals, they are larger than before, and as my paper size is A4, its kinda sloppy, sorry about that :O but hey, it does the job. (i also upgraded my mecha a little, just for funs :)

All i want after all is to learn about this bone for now. (god i have so much to learn from this bone, it will take time to master it)
Drawing it, thinking about forms, and memorizing names of parts of it, and after i have finally learned, i can truly know, where are insertios and origos of each muscle, then i will truly know, of muscles.

And thanks for you, dleoblack and marcotronic, such kind cheers keep me up. Never give up yourself ok? :D Always keep going and you will always go far id' say! =D

And oh, tomorrow i thought about trying to finish off my sketchbook, and do about 20-30 drawings, we will see. =D

Later this summer i promise, i will attempt to draw at most 100 drawings in one day. But that's some other day's topic :) for now, i'm just going to learn this humerus, then ulna and radius, then inserios and origos, then we can move to hand.

Just take care everyone and, enjoy your time.

Peace out

Thanks, cifgha. And yes, on any more serious works i always use perspective by golden point of paper as vanishing point of horizon, so yeah. After i have studied anatomy for whole summer we will see more of perspective, which by the way is pretty damn interesting thing to study when you REALLY realize what it is. :O

Here goes!

Today i did.. 11 drawings, some i drawed with left hand, cause my right was shaking like hell.. so i must say sorry for quality :S

Well, i promised yesterday about 25-30, but damn seems that with tones it just aint possible, but hey! Would i learn as much if i drawed only fast line arts?

I think in the end, this is only improvement, i mean before, i did 10 bones in a day, without tones, now i do same, with tones.
I'm happy myself, and this will only improve my learning alot more, if i did only lines, i would miss all this time i have for tones.

This is better way.
Shame my charcoals are really not that good this time :S or maybe i should try to draw with other one from package..

Anyways, i hope you enjoy this stuff, though it's still Humeruses, but better to do it carefully and truly know the bone before going on, eh?

Bo-ee Woa =D thanks alot! I will try my best at there, basically everything i have done here is for that test. I swear that i will succeed, no matter how hard it will be :D
And about works from imagination, yeah your comment made me think of my basis, maybe i should do something like.. 8 hours of anatomy and 2-4 of imagination poses that use anatomy, i did it sometimes, some sketches with M on them means that they are from imagination in this sketchbook. And yeah it helps alot, reminds me of diffrend muscles and forces me to think. Thanks =D

----------------------------------------------------------------------

But about my second post today, i could not do very many drawings today, for i was watching TAD (Traditional and Digital) since it was free today, and making some writings about my experiences about it and what i learned :D

But theese drawings i made might be really complicated for some of you, i was studying origo of humerus and how it is able to move, i have here humerus, scapula and clavicle and few rib bones (shame i don't know latin name for them yet..) but anyways, some poses might be hard to figure out so don't wonder.

Hardest is definetly last one, since there aint much seen about scapula as it moves so far into back.

Hope you guys like this, it has been great day :D

Thanks -J-P

NEXT, that is a good point, it really depends you know, i want to know everything, i thirst for knownledge. I mean, look at da vinci, he knew even every single vein and everything.

Why i am doing even bones so accurately is cause then i will know origos and insertios of muscles exactly, by areas of bones. Then read of the subject where exactly theese muscles attach into (insertio) and where they come from (origo)
I will know exactly the placement of muscles. Now for concept artist this would be utter waste of time imo (just knowing all muscles should do the thing). But i am no Concept artist, i am classist after all, And my whole idealogy is to create perfect human beauty as classist. Most likely perfectionistic figures with little glimpse of religios miracle. :D

It is my duty to know everything before starting to do the real thing.
And anatomy is very important, i am young, 18. And what i learn now, i will know like my own hands as old. I want it to be the hard stuff.
Next thing after i would know anatomy is to master meansurement, which i will start studying for 1 year, combined with anatomy.

The risk though in high degree of knownledge over anatomy has it's bad side. It's that anatomists tend to draw things as they know, not anymore trusting eye, which is obvious mistake. But by acknownlegeing this, i myself have overcome this SO FAR. For example when i made my finishing work at school, which is my SB's avatar. I had really no problem, maybe little wish to heighten supinator's strenght but. What i see is what is true. And i overcame that will.

In few words: It aint problem at all, as long as you acknownledge it's risk; and risk is no more.

Sorry for preaching >_< Hope that teached you folks something though. :O

Norris Lol, that is the cutest post in this SB you know =D Thanks, and i will do sometime city, not sure when though :O thought about testing something that includes cities.. =D Thanks again! =D

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

But now for this post; Just gonna dump here today's morning studies, no tones this time, they were kinda fast made.. You see i seriously drink too much coffee sometimes, and this time i think i found out why my hands are shaking..
Well anyways, because of shaking hands, i could not do a thing so far about tones, be sure though, i really tried it :S But it ended up total chaos >_<

Guess im gonna have 1 hour break now and try calm my hands down, then im gonna draw till i drop, and i freaking mean here that im gonna make a marathon, RIGHT NOW!, i will update when i feel like i had enough, im gonna test myself here for the school tests, i wanna know my limits before putting myself into limits at tests.

And im gonna draw from imagination, since there are no refs. in the tests, so reilly method is assured.

So i'm not sure that if i will be updating tomorrow, i might be really too tired, but, i will do my best and i think i will do just something.. Anything really to keep up the rythm of work. =D

Wish me luck lol.

EDIT!!

I am more than sorry guys, i don't have time after all today to do this stuff, neither i have even enough paper for marathon, im feeling kinda down to be honest.. even more that i can't do this today. ._. I am sorry my friends. But not today..

Guys,
I must say i am sorry for yesterday, and for today too.
Somehow i'm starting to realize that i might be experiencing burnout right now, my head feels like it's gonna blow up, my legs hurt, im fucking pissed; nothing works.
Theese aren't my best times, and here's proof what i did fast; possibly worst sketch i have ever, EVER done.

I mean i did this shit for 3 hours, Three-*******-hours. On a sketch..
Reason is that honestly as you can see my new charcoals are UTTER ****!
I am very, very pissed off as i write this, this ******* charcoals cost 7,30 euros, and you can't ever know that if there is so hard part of charcoal that it wont leave anything on paper, and then suddenly it would leave a ******* chunk of charcoal on paper and then work normal and, well it's just so unpredictable, i mean i admit, i quitted on this one, after doing leg about 10 times over again cause of this ******* chunks. And when you do something go as dark as possibly needed, draw a bit, and it's gone in 5 mins, you gotta do all this **** over and over again.

I dunno about you but i'm not gonna do just one ******** sketch for whole day. i MUST do atleast 5 of theese, and i see i can't with this ****.

Other thing that it might be that this charcoals are pretty large, and i'm having A4 paris paper. Not relaly the best combination, but its all i have for sketching, and for anything bigger, i have no room to do anything properly.
This makes me really consider getting Wacom and doing this summer my studies digitally. But i belive i won't.

What we learned today so far: NEVER, EVER BUY Zeichenkohle charcoals.

I know cencorship is ridicilous, but seriously. I hate swearing.

I will be back today.. i'm gonna figure out something, but what i do is not figurine, thats sure, im just way too pissed and tired.

But if you know ANY way to make theese charcoals work on normal, rather smooth-ish paper then by all means please, tell me.

Sorry for all this, theese aren't my best times..

Hai
im' back, bit late to be still yesterday (it's 00:27) so im late, damn.
Well, anyways here is few sketches and, well i decided to do theese from imagination, and really really fast. I wanted to chill out a bit and i accurally got my headache cured but.. Who cares!

Here's today's second run, its not much at all, but it's something =D
I wanted to make up this tiredness and try out something that i learned from sketches of Michelangelo in london!

I mean, at british museum there was a little gallery about sketches at the time, i dont think its there anymore though, but anyways. Michelangelo had interesting way to sketch, he seemed to share his paper into 4 parts and draw first on one square, then turn the paper and draw other one, and turn again and again. I thought that he did this so his hand would not mess the paper, and i just had to write this up and. Now i tried it, it works great :O
It also forces you to make on poses 2 standing and 2 laying gestures!

This is more of testing than drawing anything seriously, and i did use charocal, i found some old ones, (thx god* x_x)

Hope this trick helps, i will use this myself on small sketches from now on for sure. I recommend! :O

Tomorrow is my birthday lol =D

Wtf, seriously. Yesterday i was totally broken, could not do anything :O
And when i wake up this morning, i was bursing energy x_x

Well anyways, i will be back today, i'm gonna draw now some anatomy, i think this way is good that i first draw slow, meansuring and careful tonal drawing and then practice anatomy for whole rest day, imo, it works well. :O

I will be drawing theese alot later this year :D

But there will be more things about humerus later :O

For now i will study ulna and radius, and i started off with some sketches without any accural studies, i wanted to get known to form and all, some of theese are lines, but most is toned :O

I also just finished my sketchbook :S and i need to seriously buy lots of stuff again, for tests and just that sketchbook. :O

Looking at that last female study, I'd say that you need to be more definite and decisive with your lines. They seems a bit cautious and scratchy in some places. Maybe try using longer lines and more definite and different shapes of value.
Hope that was helpful, keep up the studies man

Honestly, i have never ever drawed on anything like this before, it feels to fit perfectly for charcoal :O

Unfortunately, my work ain't so pretty yet in my opinion, such beautiful paper deserves beautiful work, it motivates me to create now classical beauty on theese grand, GRAND pages!

I started drawing today later, for i had to buy this you know :O
and something to paint on, some extra paper for more special work ^^
Sad thing is that my fixative is areound 25% full, and it really makes me think, should i save it for tests or go and buy new one and draw.

I think i won't draw till monday at tests, for i have this other papers too, and some paint =D i will do something.

Apply, apply, apply, then apply. You're doing all the studies right but you want to be an imaginative artist, not a fine artist right? So start doing the imaginative. Don't be afriad, just go for it and do a lot of work from mind. Finish it.

Take all the stuff from your studies and do it in your imagination work. Explore, express, create and enjoy.

Take care and keep it up :)

Norris Sorry, but im all out of tools right now to do one :S
But i will see if i have time :O

Well, yesterday i really was too tired to do anything, and today i did have little energy, felt like i could accurally do few drawings, and bam.
You guess it, im out of fixative. -_- Well tomorrow il get more, like 3 more bottles too -_- and something to paint on :D

I must say im very tired now, and it feels just wrong that i just have to rest for while. Guess that test for school really fucked me up :S
Such pressure..

Well well, atleast i could do one study, but it's just full of info too :D
I learned a new way to do this, i mean. Somehow for me it's accurally better to go for maximal amounts of info, and go to wikipedia or any medical sites for info about just diffrend bone areas, its easier for me :O

And soon we are off for radius, and that wont take long to master either, then we are off for mastering placements of muscles and then the arm is mastered.

Geeky.

By the way, for all bookworms, i really suggest that you get Simon Schama's Power of art, terrific book! :O

We will see if i can make that darkest dark x_x problem is that i like to apply values from light to dark, dont wanna talk about it too much really :O i think i should force myself to do the opposite though :O that should do it.

Mkay' here's what i got today :O trying to not use too many papers

2 pages of studies, alltogether 5 drawings of them

2 drawings from imagination

im feeling motivated, i think im gonna draw figurines this night :O

Welcome to the world of failure.
God's sakes.. i really failed this time. I tried too hard, i started this last night, did it till 2 am and well. Obviously i was too tired to do good block in our, about fucking anything (facepalm) but idea was after all to try out valuing in new way, inversed valuing. And it works, but the work itself is utter shit.

I tried to save this work for this day, and i decided in the end that fuck it, im wasting my time, better to leave it as it is and forever remind me of my weakness.

I want to show my failure to all of you, to enbarass myself with this shitty sketch, i want to bring myself down and realize that what im capable of and what not, what i need to learn and what i know.

Here's what i did for some other girl as birthday gift, this one was really fastly done, for the reason that ii had to do works for 2 girls who had birthday on 29'th and second at 30'th, damn it was wild. And first one is still late.

But i got some new books, and for now i will spend more time on reading thatn drawing, after this comission i have to talk about that..

But anyways, got book about Drawing realistic textures, drawing on right side of brain (kinda sucks IMO) and Classical painting atelier.
Gonna go with Photorealism techniques, for that if something should make my lines more clean and accurate, of course i will try it out sometime :O

Your anatomy studies are coming along well, but i'm really interested in seeing you do more landscape, more exact, city work. You have some interesting ideas in here, that could become even mroe interesting if you refine them a bit. :)

Ok, here's continued version of alla prima, and yeah. In tems of looks it was not so good but however, it did the job to learn about colors in light.

Truth was, i didint know a shit =DD

Let's see again when i try again, for i have been reading some color theory and edge theory :O

Also, here's update of birthday gift for my friend :O been making it from time to time, mostly outside so it might have taken some dmg in color.. :S

But however, things go on and all. (cant wait for my school to start..)

Sounds good, I haven't really checked out the fine arts side of ca, but I'm sure it's just as good as the rest. Those sketches sound interesting, your recent sketches both digital and traditional have been interesting so would be cool to see which direction you're heading in.

(And oh yeah most of theese are from 30s to 1m at max, some are whole differend things though like bargue drawings, obviously.)

J-P Nihtinen
July 13th, 2011, 04:52 AM
Yefim We will see about that. i won't promise that it would happen soon for im just doing stuff really fast and trying to improve.

cannibalcarnivale well i think it's quite personal thing.
I myself belive much that your momentary emotions affect your line. Well it's qutie fact. But it depends on persona.

few tricks that might do the trick for you:

1-sketch from model with like 30s pose time. it will stress you alot at start, if you aren't confident enough. but thats something you have to get over if you want to improve. you either want some pride by practice.
Or id say even better, you start to think that you have drawn like 30 characters so far, and you have 300 papers and rest of day off, just taking it easy. That's when line wont be so stiff anymore.

And i personally get a proud laughter if you do have that tough line, and it wont have that stiffness into it. It is then again mark of eagerness.

But best thing what you can say about this is that sketching is like your handwriting.. remember times when you were at first grades and learned to make your A like it was modern art masterpiece. and look now how you can write A like it should be.

Just draw, your own persona will come out.

Beautiful pencil renderings man. Reminds me of DanielC's work, or MischievouslittleElfs.
Both have beautiful styles if you aren't familiar.

And that kiddies, is how you learn to draw the human figure.
Love the sketches mate, especially your experimentation with line and shape. Plus you're throwing in the longer studies as well, got all your bases covered (except colour....but fuck colour!)
For 30 seconds you're getting so much information into those drawings, it's pretty damn impressive. Colour me jealous!

Keep up the updates man, and take it easy

J-P Nihtinen
July 14th, 2011, 01:53 PM
Oh you dan, i think that's bit too much =O But seriously, thanks =D

Im gonna update from now on every second day, trying to do something like that, got a nice stack of drawings today. But as i got some new camera, it takes a while to get them into here and im just plain de-motivated about that =D

Il do it tomorrow morning

(i also made some interesting side research about conditions affecting work of artist, and will give some results tomorrow too as i will give some examples of work under differend conditions (like symptoms of bad air conditioning or such)

I really like the confident lines in your modelstudies. Great :)

carakhan
July 14th, 2011, 05:14 PM
You're coming quite a long way! You're becoming more confident, I really like your lines on your figure studies - they're squiggly but you're not searching for it like you were in the past. Like the mouth studies as well. Don't worry about the comments, I think they're rare :)

J-P Nihtinen
July 15th, 2011, 02:58 AM
carakhan Don't menton, it was loong time ago, when i still thought that it meant something =D Im just happy to be back, its really nice kick to be here.
Makes you work alot you know.

And its good thing to remind me about their squiggliness, but for now im just trying to get the proportions right really fast and get used to human form. Then when i will feel condifent i will start to apply some deeper knownledge to certain things, that will increase my accuracy with model, while keeping speed at maximum. For now, there is no way i could draw perfect model in at most 1 minute, not to menton 30 seconds. But that's what im going for.

cifgha Well your about to see that it accurally depends.

And so, il tell you guys, that theese works i did yesterday..
First set of them is bit silly. I had really bad air conditioning that night, worked too late. and i had oil fumes in air. So i had this MASSIVE headacke, feeling dizzy and shit. So i thought that

Does it affect your work, and how does it affect it?

So i am making now some tests that what kind of conditions affect your work.

Generally during this first session:

-my head hurts alot
-i felt dizzy
-speaking was bit silly
-hard to make rational decisions. but still able as i was able to do this test.

id say it was long term exposure to oil fumes or somekind of turpentine "poisoning"

here are results, they are bit silly eh? lines and forms dont make sense.

pt2 coming up soon.

J-P Nihtinen
July 15th, 2011, 03:06 AM
After i made those i thought that jesus i need to take a walk
So i did go out. Got some sugar into my system, and proper food.

Headacke was not that bad then but still it was there.

Needless to say that results speak for themselves, conditions mean something.

J-P Nihtinen
July 16th, 2011, 04:17 AM
This update is continuing my testing with conditions,
And this one was done after playing 30 minutes of hard game (for example, grandia 3) which obviously, as demanding act makes you focus.

Again i was suprised when drawings didint go that well, so i made some blind contour drawings and then effects started to bloom progressively.

marks :

AB-L = long drawing under effects of blind controur
AB-S = short drawing under effects of blind contour

but eventually effect felt to sort of wear off as i became more tired, and i thought that effect is gone. and it goes on quite long even if you do like 4 of blind countours.

also made some expression studies when i ran out of paper momentarily =D
man it was fun

Sorry guys for being rather inactive for like.. week? have no idea.

My scheclude got totally fucked as i was experiementing with effects of typical frantic artist working too long. and how such condition affects your work, escpecially if lets say you work until 3-4am and sleep till 8-9 am

and i was trying to get idea of it that how you work next morning. Suprisingly (for me) it was that you could work very well.

UNTIL. you went out, drank coffee or did something energizing. then everything went to hell.

so yeah. here are results. trying to get back into scheclude

-- -- --

Also there is a problem for me that i have soon drawn almost everything on figure drawing tool so i have to change site or something, i must say sorry if there are some poses that repeat themselves, and accurally get displeased about it.
And that recently my drawing times have changed quite much for individual drawings. it aint bad tho, imo.
