Ah, a new coloring book. Life is good.

Here's one for Davi.

http://img16.photobucket.com/albums/v47/zEBaRT/gasman2.jpg

Now to start on Sammy's Spice Harvester...that wouldn't have any relation to a Dune Spice Harvester would it?! If it does, then they should be watching out for sandworms...

Out.

lance
February 6th, 2004, 01:36 PM
davi maybe you should explain what lineart is
that might help some people out...
http://home.jam.rr.com/artoflance/lineart.jpg

[edit: davi]
omg make the image smaller like...4 times smaller..

Skank
February 6th, 2004, 01:42 PM
man, that was posted in the last coloring book.....dont think we needed it again....at that size...

sodomizer
February 6th, 2004, 02:43 PM
Lance, I can't quite see that pic. Can you enlarge it ANY more??

Zeb
February 6th, 2004, 02:59 PM
Alright, here is the Spice Harvester...I've never colored something like this before so I took it rather easy.

Took between twenty minutes and a half hour...I'm slow when it comes to PS...

http://img16.photobucket.com/albums/v47/zEBaRT/spiceharvester2.jpg

Remember, I said EASY. Hence the simplicity of the colors and little to no shading.

dfacto
February 6th, 2004, 04:19 PM
Um, I have a request for everyone. Could we not shade our work so much. I mean Sammy, the harvester thing is rockin, but its practically all shaded, so its kind of useless unless you want to do an overpaint. If we all just provide clean lineart without shading of any kind we can let the painter decide where the light source is and get more variety from it.

AmishCommy
February 6th, 2004, 06:38 PM
I'm with Skank on the huge image. Hows about rule #4: DONT POST IMAGES THAT WERE ALREADY POSTED IN THE OTHER NEW MEDIA COLORING BOOK!!!! (after reading rule #2 re-read it about 50 times if still confused refer to rule #4) now, everyone point at "timtheenchantor" and "lance"!!!!

oh and who's with me on breaking sammy's arms? there has to be a limit on how good a person gets.

dfacto
February 6th, 2004, 07:35 PM
I say we just kneecap him. That way he can still draw, but he'll walk with a limp. heehee

Skank
February 6th, 2004, 07:59 PM
now now..no need for a lynch mob...i just thought it was a bit big and since we did it already in the other thread, a bit overkill...

now, back to the coloring!! :chug:

Zeb
February 6th, 2004, 08:06 PM
You shouldn't want to hurt Sammy...

Just look at his ability and use it as motivation...

Hell, I'd give my legs, kneecaps, whatever (well, not everything) to draw something like that Harvester...

*tears up* C-c-can't w-w-we all just g-g-get along?!

Sammy
February 7th, 2004, 12:11 AM
OHHHH, such hostility in the thread lately! FUN!

BRING IT ON IN THE FORM OF COLOR!!

.. if I have to chose... I guess break my legs ... or else I ain't got nofin' goin' for me!! : \

dfacto: I can work on that, there's plenty of unshaded line-art tho... in fact mine's the only shaded ... I just thought it would make for a casual color job for peeps just wanting to have some fun ... but you're right, it does take all the creativity out.

I loved this littl dude Davi.

Oh yea, added a new rule, we want more colors in here... and not a huge dump of lines ... so try and upload lineart only if you've colored other works.

Sammy: i worked with a similar color palette since i figured that the harvester and thopter would be made of similar materials. The thopter lines were a little dirty so i used that to my advantage to get sort of a 'sand storm' look to the coloring

oh and tim you were wondering how us two did our backgrounds....

well for mine i did what i always do for line art coloring,
>started with the line art and create a new layer, and select it to be a multiplied layer
>then i took a color between yellow and yellow ochre an made a background
>then i took a lighter green color and lightly brushed it over the picture (avoiding the top) all the way down to the bottom
>then to finish it i took a gray and "washed" the lower half

cant wait to see you version tim....

Here is another one.
Cool drawing. I took some liberties.
Sorry, I've never been one to color in the lines! HA. It always got me in trouble in grammar school. Who's laughing now, Aye?

Anyway thanks for the cool drawing. It reminded me of some old skool layout drawings from Disney.
Keep 'em coming!

BTW this was a quickie so don't hate on the messy strokes. really I have no excuse but I thought I would mention it anyway.

OK, this is probably a bit different from what you usually color but I figure this piece is open to a lot of creativity. I drew this a month ago for a comic and a basic gif animation. I like to color heads/faces, hopefully you will too.

Hi,

I've been doing digital color for a couple of months now and I'm slowly learning . . .I wanted to post the picture i'm currently working on to see what others would do, and how they would handle an image that I'm currently coloring. The picture is a dwarven king, not very action oriented- but it's a nice simple image for me to work on. I'd love to see several versions of this and a little on why you chose the colors or whatever you think might help me. Thanks in advance...

hey guys, thanks for coloring my treehouse.

king: I like where you're going with it. it's refreshing to see traditional mediums every now and them.

sodomizer: nice job. I don't think you ruined it at all, though you did change my light source slightly. In the sketch I have it coming straight on, about 80 degrees. Your light is at the right height but seems to be coming slightly from the left.

dear sammy,

what is your use for the central lines you use in your perspective drawings? is there an actual theory behind these or does it help you see the forms easier? i notice feng zhu uses a lot of these, as well as others that are perspective pimps.

if anyone else knows a link about these lines, theories or terms, please let me know, i am interested.

ahh yeah .. i still didnt get it either but sammy has link for that.. scott's site.. i forgot what it is but sammy knows .. man i actually need to look at those tutorials again too!

Faxtar
February 17th, 2004, 10:04 PM
Scotts perspective tuts: here (http://www.drawthrough.com/tutorials/index.html)

It looks like the lines have something to do with the axis of the ellipses and getting them lined up. maybe someone else can explain it better.

Sammy
February 17th, 2004, 10:20 PM
killing.people: Yea, keep lookin' at Scott's work for inspiration. The more and more you practice perspective the more natural it gets, it helps to learn it at the same time you're taking 3d CG classes and sculpture classes ;: just cramm all your time with demention!

I use those basic lines to help block in the figure... basically a way for me to cheat and not have to use a ruler + vanishing point for every line ... to put it simply for most of the sketches I do, I reference from the blocking lines I put in... the closser a parallel plane is to that line the more parallel it will be to it and not the others that are further away.

Damn that looks good ty, I really like the effect that the dirty CANSON paper has had on the colorings. I shall do more : )

Legato: Yea, I'm referencing the book totally for DUNE... Which is hard to do since it's a universe that's been 'polluted' numbers of times by so many peoples' visual interpretations, It's hard to clear my mind and develope something interpreted litarally from the book.... and not David Lynch.
All I can hope for is that people will be somewhat open to it when I finish... my vision of it is more down to earth/realistic and less sci-fi or star-trek. (I have a long ways to go)
With that said, that 'thopter is a failed attempt : D just to pitch the project to my professor... the final design will look nothing like it :chug:

here's one vision of the carryall that peeps are welcome to color ... it's another with the values already laid down... but that seems to make for a more laid back coloring experience, heh, just to have some fun with.

Legato, I think it looks cool man. Hey, you can post that picture by using Deviant Art as your server. Once you upload it to DA, just right-click your image on DA, and go to properties, then copy the URL to your image. Come to concept art, then hit the IMG button, then paste your URL that you copied from DA. I don't have a server, and I do the same thing, heh...

coming from you that is seriously the the sweetest thing EVER.... holy crap thank you so much. i think that the unreal tournament mod concept is helping me a lot with perspective stuff, and also the fact that everything im doing recently has been done in pen. im just getting used to everything. i already have a mech that i can call my own, but it needs some refining. i would like to get a original design in every "class" (sleek and modern, old and clunky etc.) in the line art i've submitted in this thread i already see loads of errors but the good think is i notice them. its like in music, its knowing your out of tune that makes the difference. for some reason im on this marker role so that will probably last as long as their ink does... you've just inspired me to get even more f's in school!!! jk. ill try doing something on sunday... but today and tomorrow are pretty full... wow... *crazy*

Returning killer or a detective , you be the judge.

Great lineart, this is probably the most fun lineart ive drawn so far (well its a tie between the carryall and this), i hope i did it atleast some justice.

kakikukeko: nice energy in that piece!

Legato: Just keep practicin' and practicin' ... once you get comfortable you get to focus on design.. which is a blast ...
you should do some thumbs and post 'em in the *Creative Process* , it would be cool to work on some mechanical stuffs with people and land all the basic 'genra's of mecha.
And pluss learning the secrets behind thumbnailing improves everything.

Sammy, kakikukeko + wayfarer : Wow. Thank you for the compliments. Really.

I think I benefited from some first-post luck on my last one. Here's a second try.

I didn't spend as much time as on the she-devil, but it was fun. I did a quick cleanup of the lineart (I hope you don't mind, Hurricane), and repositioned the lower body a little. I also hope adjusting someone's original work slightly isn't against the rules in this thread. If so, I apologize.
