Hey guys, this is a little learning exercise I'm doing to help along my meager painting skills(hey, I'm a 3d guy :D ). Anywho, I basically took a day shot of an abandoned building
here (http://www.antsin3d.com/portfo/Oct2k2/20001125.jpg) that I found on google by accident. I decided to turn it into a little mini project, renovate the house, etc. So its heavily in progress, windows and doors still missing, etc.

Here's a big version:

Feedback's always extremely welcome. :D If its dark on your monitor, turn the brightness up! If its still dark...I guess I'll have to increase the image brightness. My monitor's really bright at half brightness.
Anyway, thanks! Be sure to check out my WIP in the 3d section too.

that sounds like a fun project to take on.
looks good, i really like the wet areas though i think more should be added, maybe give some shine on the wet grass
and the car, but it looks like your headed in the right direction
i think im gonna have to give that type of project a try, im also a 3d artist, and its always nice to get back to painting.

This is a really cool idea and very cool piece. Very gloomy atmosphere, it reminds me of The House on Haunted Hill (even though it doesn't look abit like the house...). I likes it, and I can't wait to see the finished version.

Hey guys! Thanks so much for the comments, and I think the critiques were spot on. I really appreciate it! Here's a weekend doodle. It started as a lousy photo (http://www.antsin3d.com/portfo/Nov2k2/Hunedoara-castle2.jpg) of Vlad the Impaler's castle, and I just expanded from there. The rocks were done in Painter, the rest in Photoshop. About 3-4 hours so far I guess, pretty quick for me.

I might go in and paint over the building too, because its too blurry to hold up at high res. Sharpen it up a bit. Oh, Amphex, to turn it to night I did something along the lines of a hue shift combined with an adjustment layer(forget what setting I used, just experiment), and then a saturation adjustment. Cap'n Flush gave me the great tip of using a layer filled with grey and set to saturation to control the saturation of the image. Damn that guy's good. :chug:
Update: I've started painting over the photo, sharpening up the edges. Looking way better. I'll take it into Painter and add some sharper textures to the buildings now.

Updated the Hunedoara pic, nearly done now. Click the thumbnail above to see the latest version. Still some tweaks, but I think its almost there!
