This is my sketchbook. I will prob update it every week or so, so tell me what you think. The first ones are done on brown bag paper out of a sketchbook that i made, the others were done in photoshop and the last one in painter 8. Tell me what you think, be brutal.

Ship sketches, these are fun
http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v23/Bhuddistmonk/IMG19.jpg
A couple of conventional, higher quality ship sketches that i, personally think are quite nice.
http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v23/Bhuddistmonk/IMG20.jpg
I asked my friend what he wanted me to draw, he said a diamond mine with itty-bitty diamonds. this was fun practice with perspective. The perspective on the beams adds a lot of depth to the picture.

hey bhuddistmonk
nice start, but um whats the first pic of??
i think the boat and the old man turned out very good!!
tip: try to add bolder lines to help define your characters better, some of the lines are too light.
keep it up!!

whoa...dude...relax...take a meditation moment or something.

;)

I agree with dingoegret, the old man and the boat turned out really nice. I also like the dude holding the staff.

The pieces you did towards the bottom lack a certain umph. I guess my only suggestion for them is to try working your gesture a bit more.

Hope that helps!

Ahem...wanna visit my sketchbook? (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17872)

When you're working on the brown paper (and any paper for that matter...) you have to be sure to have dark enough darks. Your lights on the brown seem ok, but if you made darker shadows it would definitely give it more depth.

Keep sharing your work.

BTW, I MUST know where you got that sketch pad. It's got the paper I really want and it looks to be spiral bound...I'd really love to know who makes it.

3dz - the paper is just regular brown-bag paper that comes in packages at some art-supply stores. I got sick of looking for a sketchpad with a dark to mid-tone paper so i said "fuck this" and made my own... best book ive had yet out of 9 ive filled up. I manufacture them with vinyl covers if you are interested, talk to me on AIM (Bhuddistmonk420) and we can discuss me sending you one.

hey bhuddistmonk
havent seen an update in awhile. this update is lookin good. the pic of android turned out very good, it may help to add a bit more contrast in the pic, like for the shadows make them very dark(i dont know what the original looks like so i dont know if there are many shadows in it), i thnk it would contrast great with the white. the perspective on the boat looks a little off to me. oooo that skeleton scares me too:D . i love the french bread sword;) .

Hehe, I know the feeling when noone answers ones postings.. it gets addictive to click the favourites link to your sketchbook, checking your replys and the disapointments that there are none.. I've been keeping my sketchbook for quite some time now, you'll get used to it.. People will comment eventually and you might actually be surprised how insightfull and great some of the comments are. But the rule of thumb is "if it looks good it is good" So if you're happy then its great, and keep working on it.. dont let some troll trash your day. Check my sketchbook and look at the time between some of the posts.. I've gone through the agonising time of not getting posts for a long time..

now for the drawings...

Only 15? I will want to see how you'll be when you get older.. Great stuff you are doing now. I like the boats.. I think the small boat with the reflections in the water and all that (the studio study) especially good. I think you will need to work on eyes and complete figures. They are a wee bit off but nothing terrible. Go check out this site for great tips : http://portrait-artist.org/. It has been very helpfull for me. Have you tried charcoal pencils.. I think they might give you the dark color you need to make those sketches really stand out. They handle a bit differently than pencil but you'll get used to them with practice...

now then.. oh golly, look at the time ;Þ

alright! thanks for that awsome responce talmir, and i will check out that site, as for the how to on sketchbooks...

This sketchbook is made from just brown bag paper, like from the grocery store. Instead of facing cutting up a shitload of bags, I went to my local art supply store (Hobby Lobby here) to see if they had a sketchbook with anything remotely near brown paper as its contents. To my disappointment they did not, but to my suprise they sold 8x11 brown paper sheets, without any creeses or anying imperfections. I bought 2 packages of the paper with 50 sheets each, thats 100 sheets for those of you who suck at math. I took the paper to my local Kinko's or any other copy store and picked out a grey vinyl cover for the book. They punched holes in the paper and gave it a spiral binding. Exactly what I wanted.

PRICE: 2 x $4 for Paper
$4 for binding & the cover

that would be 12$ for the best sketchbook ive had, I URGE you to make your own, its cheaper than some sketchbooks and are costomized to your needs. Also, if your a broke SOB then check out the dumpster of your local copy place. they usually have nice paper for free from the orders they fuck up. Since creating my custom sketchbook, i am more motivated to draw becaues i dont have to face the frustration of not have my favorite paper, or something like that.

Hey, man! I know that us 15-year-old artists are supposed to have a HUGE advantage because we're starting so young and crap, but there have been a lot of young artists as of late...

Are you studying an anatomy book? I suggest Bridgeman, Loomis, or Hogarth (in the order of best-->worst). I do my sketches on a Wacom, though (Got it after 2 years of begging my parents :P)

I can definitely see a lot of improvement, so don't stop sketching. The musculature of your characters seem to be a bit off (especially the arm), so check out some references for help (or check out Bridgeman or Loomis or Hogarth).

My sketchbook is over at PhotoshopTechniques.com (http://www.photoshoptechniques.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6302 I so you can check it out if you'd like to see your fellow young-artist-competition :P.

I've been working on separate pieces of the anatomy (from legs to arms now...and then faces and the torso.) and it's working out pretty well. I'd recommend doing some studies or something. Anyways, have fun and keep drawing! I may make your sketchbook...I'm currently using lined paper (ugh).
