Well this is what i would call a very hormonal sketchbook. Which is a compliment. Your comic characters have great energy and life in them, I wich some of this woulkd translate better to your more traditional studies.
Try to pick out some components of your comic stuff and bring it in with teh more traditional stuff.
Cheers

lol hormonal sketchbook. I see what u mean i guess :)

Unfinished drawing from yesterday. I kinda rushed certain parts and tend to jump from character to character when drawing. I'll finish it soon though.
any critique for improvement??

You have some awesome work here, really great stuff. Your shading reminds me of David Finch's style. Hope to see more from you.

February 23rd, 2010, 04:02 PM
GUTS - Thx for the comment. Its funny that u say that. David Finch is a HUGE!! influence to me
I seem to understand his style more then any other comic artist and its kinda weird because I haven't
yet seen his tutorial dvd and have only read Ultimatum (unfortunately). Im guessing its
the art I've seen online and subconsciously picking it up.
I guess theres actually a lot u can learn from just looking at art.

These were done with magic Markers. The first one I was just testing and was done very quickly to get a feel for the colours.

hey man, thanks for swinging by my sketchbook! i totally agree with everyone in here, your work is awesome man!! im very envious of your ability to shade like that, ive wanted to be able to since i picked up my first comic. i think it was an old wolverine issue or something. but yea, someone mentioned david finch, and i met that dude at comic con new york last year. he is the friggin man. everything that guy touches turns to gold, have you seen his acrylic paintings? i honestly think hes a waaay better painter than a penciler, id kill for this DD painting he did. i almost crapped when i saw it at his booth. haha, sorry for the rant, but i had to say. also, your style also kind of reminds me of Dale Keown a bit. i love his work too, oh and Tom Raney. god...dont get me started on comics, ill go on forever haha. anyways, your work is top notch, and in no time at all im guessing youll be furiously scribbling sketches at cons for fans of yours. keep at it man!!

Haven't been doing much drawing lately, feeling ill. It's impossible to draw when not feeling well. But I did do some studies.
Need to pick up and do more.
Only used refs in the first pic, on the faces and hands were drawn from my hand.

Nice line-work man. You might have heard this before but your drawings would look really sick if you scanned them in Photoshop and leveled them out to make them pop. Can't wait to see more of your work.

Good stuff in here so far dude!
I think you would benefit from incorporating some more studies into your routine though. Because it looks like there is a big difference in the quality of the work when you are drawing something new and when you are drawing something you have rehearsed. What I mean is it looks like you have a few shapes/poses memorized, and don't quite know how all the parts under them are working, so you are having trouble drawing them in different poses/angles.
Hope that's not too harsh, but just keep up the hard work, and you'll be sailing in no time!!
Jordan85
March 31st, 2010, 05:31 PM
Sublimus - Thx. The harsher the critique the better, you are dead right. I'v actually never studied the whats underneath the skin before apart from the skull so most of the work is from guessing. So I'm taking your advice. Anatomy studies, figure drawings!
Doing drawings like these have caused me more trouble then you could imagine but Here's some bridgman and anatomy google studies.
