Well I've been lurking around this forum off and on for a long time now and I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me out. I started using Painter X about a week ago and there's a couple of things that don't seem to be working right for me so here it goes:

1. The selection adjuster tool doesn't seem to work for me. I'll make a selection (usually using the rectangular selection tool) and then I'll click the selection adjuster and basically my selection doesn't move. The dotted rectangle that indicates my selection moves, but my selection doesn't. So if I want to adjust anything I have to use the layer adjustment tool and right click and use free transform. Just doesn't seem right to me. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

2. I keep losing my brush selector bar somehow. Then I have to make a new workspace based on the factory defaults which means I lose all of my custom settings. If I try to load a previosly saved workspace (one that SHOULD have the brush selector bar on it) it doesn't work. I have to start all over.

I'm sure there's more but those are the most pressing issues right now. Also- could anyone recommend any good books or other resources on Painter X? Thanks again!

Hi,

1. In Painter X the Selection Adjuster is doing just that - adjusting the selection, i.e. the marching ants, not the pixels that you are trying to select.

To transform the selection you have to click inside the selection you have made with the Layer Adjuster (black arrow) which lifts the pixels to a temporary layer. Go to Effects > Orientation > Rotate, Scale, etc. to carry out your transformation and then Layers > Drop to merge the selection with the initial layer. Convoluted, I know, but it is much better in Painter 11.

2. If you lose your Brush Selector, try Window > Arrange Palettes > Default (or a custom arrangement).

Most books by Don Seegmiller come highly recommended. They are for those who are already familiar with Painter but everything is clearly explained.
