how do you know where to put them? ARe there rules that apply weight lines or do you just put them where you think they look cool... i dunno they confuse me lol..someone help me pleeeeeeeeeeease

I never really thought about it, I just naturally put them in. I think I make bold lines on the "active" parts of a figure. I think thats right.

put them on the shadowed parts of the figure as well, to illustrate greater light\dark contrast, works for me anyway heh

use line weight to create contrast and to pull things forward.
objects that are closer to the foreground are usually more focused and should have a thicker lineweight. also...use positive line weight to pull an object forward from a lighter background and negative lineweight to pull a dark object forward from a dark background. you can also use it stylistically to emphasize certain things of importance.
