ok. i'm trying some color stuff. i'm in painter 6. i have a base layer for some hair set to multiply. now i'm trying to add some highlights on a layer on top of the base one. i am using the round water brush on the highlight layer. the problem i am having is that when i try to lay down the round water brush it starts off white and then the color comes as i progress with the stroke. i have run into this before but am wondering if there is a way to change the settings so i don't have that initial white appear. thnaks. hope this makes sense.

oh the highlight layer is set at default.

I sort of remember this problem...did you check the Corel site to see if there is still a Painter 6 update you could download? I vaguely remember a fix for this, but I may be off on my versions...since I moved to ver.7 some time ago -- a major improvement.

If you can possibly do it, move up to ver. 7; a lot of these kinds of issues have been solved.

get the update to painter 6.1 (corel site)
and then, you have in your layer menu a checkbox called "pick up underlying color". check this and it'll pick up the color underlying instead of white.

as I recall the install directions have to be followed exactly. I think it took a couple of trys with me...

taff/keyth/gekitsu -- ?did the 6.1 update require a fresh/clean install of painter 6...or am I thinking of the upgrade to ver.7 ???
