Here is the ref were using. Were taking the angle of regular modern day people that represent the cards. Think of something along the line of Heroes or X men. Powers awakening. As far as the differences in the major and minor stay tuned (we're still working on that).

And here is the first rough for XIX The Sun.

First WIP here. Shootn for the High Priestess with this one. She's an elderly homeless woman, but don't let that fool you. She posses many powers...one of which she can control you mind to commit random acts of kindness in the world. Her goal is to rid the world of evil spirits! More to come.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I know were a little lame on the updates a volatile mixture of work and laziness has cause this. However I promise next week will have more for this thread> i'll get on everyone to update what they have.

Oh yeah 9 Cups WIP, the cups are there I've just covered them up with Kanye there. Kanye always wanting to be the center of attention. tusk, tusk

Good stuff guys.

First wip for me, some thumbs. For the minor (4 Cups) I wanted to draw a minimum-wage earning waitress - and she's only just discovering her powers or doesn't know what to do with it yet. For the major (The Tower) I thought a really really tall/skinny road worker would suit - another 'everyday' person doing mundane work but with a hidden power.

I really like the last 2 'minor' thumbs with the cups slightly obscuring the girl but blurred out to give some space to the pic. Not entirely sold on any of the major thumbs yet.

I also kinda like the idea of my characters having powers, but ones that aren't immediately obvious or 'xmen' like.

re worked the 9 of cup I didn't like the one I posted when I was looking at it over the weekend so I got some more ref and re worked him. I think it's going in the right direction now. Colours are gonna be a bitch but that's how things go I suppose.

Still loving the sun concept. Please do not get rid of the graphical abstraction of the hair in certain parts. It looks really special atm.

here is what I got so far on the Sun. getting closer to the finish line here. There still a lot of work I got to do colour and saturation but you can see where it's going. I'll post more for the 9 of cups soon. this weekend should be big for work so hopefully I'll be done if not close to.

jozulus Thanks it I wanted something harsh and in your face to contrast the muted poses.

Janos Thanks I was worried it was a little to much but I'm glad you like it. I think it's working well so far but I have to make it either more iconic or turn it down. right now it's in the funny in between stage.

Ok so here's some slight updates. I don't usually work in the greyscale>colour order, but I don't normally do that many characters either, so I figure I might as well give it a shot.

4 of cups - getting there. She's supposed to seem more uncertain/less in control of her powers than no_name_brand's 9 of cups, who is much more effective.

The Tower - really early days yet. I've clipped him off the borders of the page to make him feel taller. Does it work?


Janos - thanks man! Checked out your team's sketchbook - very original direction your team is going too.

Jozulus - cheers. The stuff you guys have going is very cool, love the sketchbook!

here is the 9 of Cups and the Sun work in progress. The Sun is more or less done. I have to get back to it in a bit with fresh eye's. 9 of cup is still in the early stages, will see where we end up in the next couple of days.

this tower rendering is awesome... cruel dominance, and dinamyc pose with this rough colored back,... but i dont have the point of the character, yet!

Another update for The Tower. Some minor details to add but this guy is almost there now. No_Name_Brand, B-Russ - any feedback on the glowy eyes/tatts? I'm leaning toward the second one with the glowing eyes/tatts, only cause he doesn't seem all that special otherwise. Thoughts? I wasn't going to do anything 'glowy' originally, but I think it helps the pic.


jozulus - thanks for the feedback. These guys are all supposed to be superheroes, but not typical comic-book superheroes. Everyday people with powers basically.

The idea behind 'The Tower' was that he was a normal middle-class guy with the ability to grow or shrink as he pleased (which is where the Tower name comes into it). I was trying to show that he was extremely tall from the camera angle and the buildings in the background being much lower than he was. Maybe its not reading that well..?
